You know what my favorite thing about Suga’s mixtape is? The fact that i can feel the depth if his emotions and thoughts through the songs even tho i don’t speak Korean. There’s something about the tone of his voice and the passion that is reproduced through every lyric that shows how much he put into this and how much creating music means to him.

[STARCAST] “My name is, AgustD”... ‘SUGA’ to rap about the real Min Yoon-ki

‘BTS’ SUGA came back as rapper Agust D. On August 16 at 12:00 a.m., he released first mix tape under the same title via SoundCloud.

Wait a moment here, what is ‘Mix tape’? It is a song produced for non-commercial purpose and distributed for free. Since there is not specific review, artist can deliver honest story without moderation.

Agust D also talked about his autobiographical story. He included his experiences to the lyrics of 10 songs in total. He produced by himself in addition.

“Mix tape is something that I really wanted to do. I wanted to show my own color properly that I couldn’t reveal in BTS activities.” (Agust D)

Do you want to know about Agust D rather than SUGA? ‘STARCAST’ met Agust D. I enjoyed watching his results and had talking time with him.

This is one of the set studios in Namyangjoo, Gyeonggi-do on July 19. The shooting for MV of track no. 2 ‘Agust D’ was held.

The concept is ‘wandering youth’. The story is about SUGA who was locked up in the collapsed house escaped after struggling and born again as Agust D. 

"I am, Agust D" 

It is as same as this mix tape’s motto. 

"Life is daily oscillation between revolt and submission” 

In other words, it is story about real ‘Min Yoon-ki’. 

"I made this song in 2011. I made the beat at that time. The lyrics consists of real me that others never know. It will be unfamiliar but something different.” (Agust D) 

Therefore, here are lyrics for you to enjoy. The main point is, ‘Pride of Min’. He was proud of idol BTS’ success. The pride as skillful ‘PD Min’ was great, too. Dis for other rappers was fiery.

“This K-pop category ain’t enough size for me” 

“I rap and y’all get turned on by My Tongue technology"

“All ya fried rappers? Should be thankful for I am an idol”

The actual music was great enough for him to be proud. In the fancy beat, rapid rapping is impressive. That charisma was worth to call him as ‘King Min’. 

In addition, he had extraordinary passion. The songs Agust D made for last two years are over 60. Including featuring songs and mix tape, it’s about 80 songs.

"I think the person who makes something should not be lazy. Therefore, I stay in the working studio if I don’t have working schedule. I make songs steadily and pile up. That’s my biggest asset. Then my skills must improve. Therefore I always put efforts and endeavors a lot.” (Agust D)

Thus, SUGA created his own treasure box for long time steadily. He could release mix tape with 10 selected songs. 

For example, Through ‘724148’, he expressed difficulty experienced as a trainee.

"Trained during the night and worked as a part-timer during the dawn. Then I went to school with tired body and slept all day. I turned 20 without noticing it.”

Thought ‘At the dawn of 140503’, He contained trouble derived from it. 

“By hiding real aspects behind the defensive look, conceal myself thoroughly like I’m a sinner. I couldn’t take a step out of the accommodation that was like a jail” 

From ‘The Last’, he sang the process that how he could gain pride by overcoming mental pressure.

"The pride I thought I threw it away, became my self-esteem now. My fans, get your heads up proudly. Who can do better than me, uh”

The the track no. 2, 'Agust D’ emerged completed confidence of ‘Min Yoon-ki’.

The last song ’so far away’ is? A warm consolation to wandering youth. 

"Dream, hope it goes with your creation and end of life together. Dream, will be generous for you wherever you are. Dream, it will be in full bloom at the end of hardship. Dream, your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.” 

Therefor it was ‘Pride of Min’. Again, he was ‘King Min’

‘STARCAST’ (hereafter ‘S’): What does it mean by ‘Agust D’? ‘Agust D’ (hereafter ‘A’): Agust D is reading Dt suga backwards. Dt is D Town, the name of hip hop crew I used to belong to in Daegu.

S : Is it very different from ‘BTS’ SUGA? A : Well, probably yes? It is hard to make this kind of beat and lyrics for BTS’ music. I can express my thoughts as much as I want to in Agust D mode.

S : I see. The album looks like you have spent a lot of time for it. A : There is a song that I made long time ago. Also a song I made a month ago, too. My daily life repeats taking memo of my emotions that comes to my mind all the time and work with it.

S : The lyrics are also impressive. I can see something like agony between idol and rapper. A : Well, it’s not something great. I am an idol. I do not deny it. But at the same time, I am a musician, too. Who likes hip hop. I just included those thoughts as it is. 

S : Is there any color of SUGA that you wish to show? A : If I explain with color, it’s white. I want to be a person who do everything well, whatever the color I put on. As an idol and as a rapper too.

S : Do you have anything to tell your fans for the last? A : There will be a lot of songs different from my songs introduced as BTS. There are aggressive song and funny song. Please feel free and enjoy listening it. Thank you.

'Suga talks about his solo mixtape, goals, and more in Grazia Magazine'

Suga talked about his recently released solo mixtape, goals, and more during an interview with ‘Grazia’.

First, Suga explained the meaning of the name 'August D’. He said, “I flipped 'DT Suga’, which was used in some lyrics before. DT means D Town and it signifies my hometown Daegu. I think I will be using this name when I work aside [from BTS] since it has a good meaning and also sounds cool. Plus I have a good feeling [about the name] because my mixtape was released in August.”

He continued about his mixtape, “It has everything regarding hip-hop. The lyrics are strong and might make you go, 'Huh? Was he like this? Can he use these lyrics?’ Overall, I am relieved that I was able to tell the story inside my mind.”

Lastly, Suga shared his goals, and explained, “The media creates issues by standardizing beauty with how skinny you are. But there are people on the other side of the world that starve to death because they can’t eat. We have to give them more attention. Won’t I be able to turn the attention that way if I can become an influential person?”
