writing before kids:
Leisurely and playful
swaths of 5-8 hour time periods to think, write, and edit
accompanied by hot beverages and snacks
5-10k drafted in a day
writing with kids:
Frantic and scattered
5-10 minutes of random sentences in Notes written while hiding from my kids (hide and seek), in my car when I have a second to kill before daycare pickup, when I wake up at 3am because someone called for me and I can’t get back to sleep.
accompanied by tea I microwaved twice to reheat (but originally made with a kettle)
10k in my head for 3 months

Not me writing 3000 words of an Inukag fic with no discernible plot, just feeeeeeelings. I wrote for that fandom for the first time when I was 14. Am I having a midlife crisis? I have another notes app ramble that’s 2000 words of Jack Dawkins x Belle Fox smut, and another 5000 word outline of a Rankane fic I will probably never finish because it’s so OOC. This is not me! I usually start and finish one fic at a time! And they usually make some kind of sense?
#At least I’m writing?#Imma need password reset for A03 cause it’s been a minute#That is if any of these things actually gets finished enough to post…#Having kids drastically changed my writing habits

nothing but respect for our troops (smut writers) but listen. i dont want to be the person to tell you this, but not every character is going to be a dom or a sub. some people. and i know this is hard to hear. but some people do have vanilla sex. and some of those people might even be The Character.

CBC is calling it Liberal one way or another (majority or minority). Thank fuck.
If I just hyperfixate on comfort fandoms from my teens and early 20s the federal election will turn out okay in the end, right? Right??

being a shipper is hard, cause you never know when the ships you shipped many years ago will slap you in the face and make you go crazy and search for fanarts, fics all abt them.
at least my taste in ships are the best.
#I have bits and pieces of fics for 3 fandoms floating around in my notes app#And no ambition or time to finish any of them

As a kid, I spent quite a while staring at my family's tattered paperback cover for Lloyd Alexander's The High King, the fifth and final book in the high fantasy kid's book series 'Chronicles of Prydain.'
It's a visceral scene that pulls the viewer in like any cover should. Check out the fear in those bugging eyes. The ligaments of the knee. The ligaments on that Couldron-born zombie's neck. A lot of ligaments in this one! This image may have been my childhood introduction to the concept of ligaments.
The artist is the Belgian illustrator Jean-Léon Huens (1921-1984).

In case you are looking to restore your faith in politicians I would suggest you look to Manitoba premier Wab Kinew. He is our province’s second Indigenous Premier (after he officially recognized Louis Riel as the first in 2024). A former CBC newscaster, author and rapper, and more notably an honorary witness to the national Truth and Reconciliation Commission (which gathered testimony from residential school survivors) he quickly moved up the ranks in the New Democratic Party (NDP) and offered Manitobans a breath of fresh air after an abysmal Conservative gov decimated our province. He is not a perfect person, but he is a decent human being. His response to the mouthpiece in the south has been at turns good humoured, defiant, and strong. For the young Indigenous people in our province he is an incredible role model: sharing and celebrating his connection to his culture and proudly wearing his hair in a long braid.
One of the issues he campaigned on was searching a landfill for the bodies of missing Indigenous women who were murdered and disposed of by a serial killer. The families of these women were blockading the landfill and pleading with the provincial and federal governments to conduct a search. The Conservative politicians said it was too expensive and too dangerous. They actually put up fucking billboards to this effect proclaiming that looking for murdered indigenous women was a waste. Thanks to Premier Kinew the search began shortly after he took office and 3 of the 4 known victims have been located and their remains returned to their families. Their names are Morgan Harris, Marcedes Myran, and Rebecca Contois.
In the last few days police were able to identify the fourth known victim based on other DNA evidence as Ashlee Shingoose of St. Theresa Point First Nation. Kinew vowed to continue the search for her remains and at the request of her family sang a prayer song for her at the press conference. I can’t begin to tell you how monumental this feels at this time and in this place. There has been plenty written about him, but I would encourage people who are interested in his story to read his memoir The Reason You Walk.
Wab Kinew is so funny for this 😂
