I'm begging you. If you are visiting Karelia, wether you're going home, seeing your ancestors land, or are unrelated tourist: please PLEASE respect the kalmišto (the traditional burial grounds).

Don't take photos in there, not even of the beautiful grave markers. Not even of the icons grown inside trees. Nothing.

They are holy spaces that belong to our beloved deceased and taking nothing away is firm rule that includes even photos.

I know they're cool and pretty. But don't do it.

Similarly, don't touch the grave markers. They don't need cleaning. They don't need straightening. If it has fallen, let it be. If it has collapsed, don't try to fix it.

And do not feel sad that they're "uncared" for. I promise you, it is how it is supposed to be. Our graves are meant to be reclaimed by the nature. Let our ancestors rest in peace.

Koivugo roih libo kuuzi?

Koivugo roih libo kuuzi? (Is it birch or a spruce?) is a zine about sexuality and gender through the lenses of Karelian culture, made by collective of activists and artists under the name Kylykoda ("bathing house", "entrance to sauna").

This is their first zine, currently published as online English version, and they have plans for release of physical copies at least in Karelian language in near future.

I really do mean it when I question if there's something off about how my body and brain process and perceive pain, and apparently I have another case to add to my list of examples. Because I dropped my laptop on my foot yesterday. Not the whole foot, to be precise, just the big toe. The side of my laptop hit a single toe and sure, it hurt quite a lot. I don't know if this should still hurt. I have absolutely no idea when the pain should be gone. I think it's just soft tissue damage? The whole top side of the toe is bruised and I can feel it's swollen, and it LOOKS like it should hurt, but it doesn't. I would just assume it's not even supposed to hurt but at this point I just can't tell.

basically if I evee have unpleasant dreams, they are always zombie apocalypse related... now ai hqve TWICE had a zombie apocalypse dream where it's revealed at some point that everything until then has just been preparations for taking inventory. while the zombie apocalypse is very much still happening.

I love interacting with people who clearly have not been told their whole life in any situation where there's a disagreeance or a misunderstanding that they, in specific, are the problem and that they, in specific, are the source of all the confusion and issues in the situation because they, in specific, have the wrong thoughts and reaction, as someone who has been made sure to know I'm the problem. Like, yk, some mod on discord tells you to take discussion on [topic] from [[topic] related channel that's not for meta discussion] to [meta channel that's not for [topic]] or [another meta channel that's even further removed from [topic]] and you say that makes no sense to you because neither channel is related to [topic] and there isn't really a place for [topic] related meta discussion and you are told that [either meta channels not related to [topic]] will suffice, and then when the mod later says they were only trying to understand you and you think "but telling me to just suck it up instead of hearing what I had to say on the matter doesn't make me feel like you are trying to understand me?", all you can do is shut the fuck up because there's that nagging thing in your head telling you you are being a piece of shit for not gratefully accepting the "trying to understand" that's happening and unless you want to be labeled a trouble maker and someone who can't take critique or different POVs and opinions and who thinks the world should revolve around you, you shouldn't say a word more.

most of the ppl I follow who post about popular media, movies, tv shows, books etc are very critical of what's in them and most mentions of, for example, disney reboots that pass through my dash tell people not to watch them (understandable) and I'm used to people centering indigenous points of view and minority voices in general. Then occasionally I will run into that one person who somehow manages to exit outside that bubble and who makes posts like "I hate to say it but I think the Minecraft movie was better than the new Lilo and Stich movie". like. why are you even watching those and also I haven't heard asingle good thing about the lilo and stich reboot.

I've seen a couple of post recently that talk about ChatGPT in a way that makes me feel like I'm watching an infomercial.

a couple of my cousins dropped by yesterday and afterwards my kid asked why do I not have any cousins who are girls. I told her that I do actually have some of those as well, but I just realised that's not true. The last "girl" among my cousins came out as a trans man so unless someone comes out as a trans woman next, I'm the most "girl" among us.
