Weekly TAVQOTW from the BG3 server I’m in that I’m just going to copy here for posterity

“What’s their favorite weapons/spells?”

Aria I have a full set of weapons for but her FAVORITE favorite for aesthetics is the Stillmaker. She also uses the Dead Shot and the Sword of Life Stealing (mostly for similar aesthetic purposes). If BG3 had the system for it she’d just upgrade those things with what she needs and never change them out ever. Her favorite spell is charm person, mostly because it’s soooooo useful and makes her feel special.

Darra doesn’t use a weapon or spells (way of the open hand monk). She eventually gets really into Cull the Weak and Psychic Dominance though. She does also take Gortashs Gauntlet of the Tyrant which I guess we can count as a weapon

When it comes to Sloan I’ll be honest I’m not sure because I haven’t gotten that far into her actual gameplay and she would very much choose weapons based upon functionality above all else, especially because there aren’t any special weapons for Kelemvor. She might take Selune’s Spear if Shadowheart doesn’t though

Moving on to the added list because I keep going “today’s the day I make the playlists” and Not Doing That so I think moving on is best for my brain rn. Also immediately skipping to question 22. For Reasons.

Question 22!

“What’s their relationship with their family?”

Aria as I’ve mentioned has a tough relationship with Orin and the “biological” side of her family. She really felt very sisterly towards Orin before Orin betrayed her, and even though Sarevok never liked Aria or treated her that well, she felt very much like they were a family. She wasn’t the nicest elder sister to be fair, she was bossy and condescending, but they were family to her. Now she realizes that her previous life was very unhealthy for everyone involved, but isn’t quite sure what to do with that knowledge. She does kill both Orin and Sarevok though.

Aria doesn’t really feel like she needs family, so doesn’t go out to find anyone to replace the bond she feels she had with Orin, and even after she has her own kids, feels like if you’re independent enough, family is unnecessary.

Darra never really got along with Sarevok or Orin, and killed all of the people who took her in before she got dumped off the mindflayer ship. To be fair to her they did keep trying to torture and/or kill her (for the most part).

She finds the companions to be a sort of found family, which makes her uncomfortable, since they’re all relatively strong and could pose a threat to her, and because they keep trying to act all friendly and caring. She tries to both distance herself from them and be useful to them, to limit the threat to herself.

Of the companions, she finds Halsin and Lae’zel the easiest to deal with. Halsin treats her sort of like a nervous animal, letting her decide to come to him and leaving plenty of room between them without moving out of her line of sight. Lae’zel treats her as a fellow warrior, dangerous and to be noticed, but not feared or avoided. Eventually they build a bond of mutual respect, and even trust and love each other by the end of it.

Gale and Karlach are hardest for Darra. Gale keeps pestering her and offering her things, which Karlach is very loud, touchy-feely, and keeps trying to seek her out to “be friends”. She finds them both a little overwhelming, and feels like their insistence on being close is slightly suspicious.

Sloan isn’t close with most of her biological family. Her parents kicked her out relatively young (for leaving their church), which also ended in her being estranged from her brothers, and her older sister was already not really in contact with the family anyways. She still isn’t in touch with her parents (and never will be, since they are deeply involved with their very manipulative and kinda terrible church up until they die), but she does eventually regain contact with all of her siblings.

Her eldest sister is first to get in touch, having been out of touch first because she also didn’t want to be involved with their parents and then because she couldn’t find Sloan. They end up having a really pretty good relationship, often visiting each other (especially since Sloan likes to visit Gale as well when she’s in Waterdeep) and writing letters to each other a fair bit. She also enjoys being an aunt to her sisters children.

Sloan’s older brothers took longer than her sister to come around, having been more interested in being a part of their parents church. When their youngest sibling comes out as a boy, their parents flip their lids because they wanted him to basically replace Sloan and be a priestess at their church, and the older brothers realize what a toxic and unhealthy environment they’re in. They take their younger brother away from their parents, and eventually get in touch with Sloan and their eldest sister again after spending a few years trying to a) survive and b) learn about the real world. Sloan feels awkward around the older two due to their part in both her being kicked out and her having no support system afterwards, but recognizes that they’ve grown and changed as people. She still doesn’t feel that close to them though. The youngest brother actually comes to live with Sloan for a while a few years after the events of BG3, and eventually studies magic from Gale. Sloan feels much closer to him than the others, and even sort of comfortable in her elder sister role.

In terms of non-biological family, there are a few Kelemvorites who she feels especially close to, especially the woman who found her and took her in when she was dying, and the two others she traveled with as a doomguide. She also takes in Yenna after the whole “saving the world” thing happens and feels aunt-like towards Xan (the egg from the crèche, that Lae’zel hatches and raises).

Question 20!!!

“If you tried to pickpocket them, what would they be carrying?”

I’m also adding “how hard would it be?” And “what would happen if you failed?” For extra fun.

Aria is mostly carrying knives, to be honest. Like a lot of small ones. Also some potions (invisibility/speed/fire resistance) andddd a fair amount of gold that was “totally not stolen”. All the other important things are held by people who aren’t liable to run around and then get arrested.

In terms of skill needed to pickpocket her, she is pretty observant (when paying attention), and has years of reflexes drilled into her. She is pretty distractable though, so it wouldn’t be the hardest thing ever, as long as you make sure she’s thinking about something else. If you get caught, you’ll probably be stabbed out of reflex, and then stabbed again on principle. She won’t stab kids for trying though, everyone needs to learn.

Darra doesn’t actually carry much. Hand wraps, some beer, a couple pieces of gold. It’s not that she can’t carry more, she just doesn’t really see the point.

She’s VERY hard to pickpocket, especially since she carries so little. She’s also on high alert all the time, which really doesn’t help the odds. If you fail at pickpocketing her, she’ll probably break your hand but that’s about it, unless you make yourself a real nuisance. It’s both more effort for her and kind of pointless in her eyes. Anyone stupid enough to pickpocket her and get caught isn’t worth putting in the effort to kill.

Sloan carries a LOT. Just about one of everything for the group. Mostly it’s potions and supplies, but also her own personal stuff, most of the gold, some trinkets, some miscellaneous items to trade, and some extra weapons and cleaning supplies.

She’s about medium in terms of skill needed to pickpocket her. She’s pretty wary and perceptive, but carrying all that stuff around does desensitize you a little. Also she’s often trying to wrangle the others, which means her attention is frequently split. If you fail at pickpocketing her, she usually won’t have the time to spare to really mess with you, but she will snatch her stuff back and warn you off somehow (usually a nice threatening glare). If she has the time, she will rant at you about how you should at the very least pick your target better.
