I had an ochem test yesterday (haven't received the results yet), now I have another ochem test in a little less than two weeks... I can't wait to be done with this class. We had a substitute lab instructor last week though and she complimented my work which really did make ochem more bearable for those couple of hours.

レタスクラブ

I wanted to recommend レタスクラブ to advanced Japanese learners.

レタスクラブ (Lettuce Club) is a site that has both レシピ and 読み物 that someone introduced me to recently. I came for the 読み物, but the レシピ looks good too.

I have been reading through some of the comics under the 読み物 section 趣味, which has a variety of artists and themes to choose from. This is definitely a site for advanced readers, but if you'd like to try to navigate around the site you can practice reading.

[18 - 25 April] - this last week:

🌱 Didn't post much bc i was feeling ✨anxious✨ most of the time. yey! 🙃 My project coordinator is being a mess, which is making me worried bc my project "class" is worth double the credits of my normal classes. But, oh well, it is what it is🙃🙃

🎤 Yesterday me and my friends accidentally joined a quiz night (we just went out for dinner and apparently that day there was a quiz night in there lol), which was super fun and made me feel way better.

we ended up in terrible positions: M - 54, me - 55 (which i found hilarious bc it's basically my birthday date lol), J - 73, of like 110 ppl. BUT TO BE FAIR, the wifi was terrible and we lost some bc of that😅😅

🍝 today im going to have lunch with my parents, my sister and her bf, which is going to be fun. Just hope my impending headache is gone before we get to the restaurant

☀️ 24.04.2024 // I studied for my exam tomorrow. I'm stressed but not so much. Because I hate the exam system (I love learning, I love love knowledge and I love studying so much but the way the uni test us is just unfair and awful) and because I just studied the same subject so much lately that I could dream about it.

Anywayy I'll had some time tomorrow to study at the library before my exam. I don't know if it will go well and idc I guess? (Or maybe I'm just mentally drained, which is also an option)

Good news from thesis lab! I've had an influx of new crystals since I last was here, including those that my thesis supervisor said are often difficult to obtain (make no mistake, it's not my dazzling chemistry skills, it's most likely sheer luck lol). I put one of those precious babies in the spectrometer and my TS was really, really happy with the spectra that came out.

See that pink candy up there? That's my priceless crystal. Photos don't show it that well, but it's pretty big. All the others are tiny, rice-sized. This one is almost the size of a chickpea! (Great comparisons, I know.)

It's funny because I learnt for the first time about a writer who also did this about one month ago (it's Rodney William Whitaker if you want to know) but before I didn't even know it was even possible! That's crazy.

And I also wanted to ask smth : what are the few poems and/or poets that are literal classics in your native language? Like the ones everybody knows and should know and that you study in school? (I'll figure it out how to understand them later, don't worry about it ahah)

Answered here but somehow I forgot Gil Vicente, i had to read two of his plays in school, and they were so, but so funny. Should reread them soon, actually.

Now, some Portguese poetry literal classics:

🪶Fernando Pessoa and some of his heteronyms, which is kind of an insane ride, that man created over 70 personas and each of them had an entire life story, and different writing style and motifs. It was really interesting, but also low key insane, he wasn't kidding when he said "I don't know how many souls i have" "Não sei quantas almas tenho"

his more important heteronyms are Alberto Caeiro, Álvaro de Campos and Ricardo Reis, tho i usually prefer Fernando Pessoa's own writing

🪶Florbela Espanca, absolute goddess "Ser Poeta", is amazing

🪶Luís de Camões, obviously, he wrote "Os Lusíadas" ("The Lusiads"), which is basically the portuguese version of the Iliad lol

Some others that I read in school but aren't that mandatory (and i want to talk about them bc they have some bangers) are:

Eugénio de Andrade, can't think of any poem rn, sorry

Alexandre O’Neill "Gaivota" is amazing (and Amália Rodriges sang it)

Manuel Alegre, "Letra para um hino" - also super relevant bc 25 of april is almost here, and this year is the 50 year celebration of the Carnation Revolution (in which they fought the Estado Novo), and i think this poem is inspired by it

António Gedeão, i love his poem "Pedra Filosofal"

sorry for the rant on poems, apparently I learned more in Portuguese class then i remembered LOL
