Final Extended Definition Essay
Lato, John Raniel A.
EE2
Closeness
Trust and care, two characteristics which builds propinquity, a special form of relationship. Propinquity is not merely physical closeness, it includes psychological closeness which is not always bound by time and place. Everyone undergoes a form propinquity and it is their choice whether they accept it or not because interactions are bound to happen. Similarities, attraction, reciprocity, and distance all have significant effect on propinquity. Propinquity is more than just interaction, it is physical and mental connection which allows the creation of relationships.
Propinquity(noun); nearness, proximity.
Propinquity in simple terms means being physically near with someone regularly. Simply known as Propinquity Theory, this claims that people tend to grow in meetings or interactions with one another (Mustafa A. 2013). People tend to like and grow with someone they get to meet very often, it is the concept of propinquity which shows the four key factors that builds it. There are plenty of factors but these 4 are the most important.
Distance, the most obvious as it comes from its literal translation which is nearness or proximity. Proven by a study in East Michigan University, their research shows that friendship is a result of propinquity made from people living in close proximity with one another. Suggesting that distance has a great correlation in creating or choosing friends. The closer the people are, the likelihood of them being friends are higher than others who are not able see each other regularly due to distance (Seyal 2006). Distance is a great deciding factor which influences friendships and other types of relationship. It is a physical factor which can be controlled to enhance or find connections which would be appropriate to them. Distance a key component  is usually pair with other factors .
Reciprocity which comes from the root word reciprocate, means experiencing the same. The key to being close with other people or to build a bond with them is to treat them like you would yourself, with respect and dignity. A study from the University of West Ontario states how friends are formed when they are being bullied and victimized. Showing that these relationships are made purely on the will of the person and they have total control whether they want to have that type of relationship with other people (Ellis and Zarbantany 2007). One reason people tend be close to one another, how they are treated, humans are least likely to grow while they are being mistreated. Why grow with someone you do not like when you can grow with people who treat you properly, essentially growing with people you like and likes you back? That is how the brain is wired, to allow growth with people who treats you like you are equal to them or better than them. Reciprocity plays a big role in creation of relationships as they people who reciprocate helps build the relationship. On the other hand those who do not reciprocate tend to break or distance themselves from that relationship.
Everyone is unique in their own way and will have some preferences that makes us like each other, similar but unique. Similarity is another key factor of propinquity. Humans tend to grow in groups where they can relate. This is an essential factor as it is the most common deciding factor which may create relationships. A school from Massachusetts shows that social similarity has a positive effect on how people would react towards each other.  Those who prefer to develop with other who have similar tastes would most likely have the advantage on creating strong ties with the other person. Similar age groups, background, schools and many more play significant roles in the erection of relationships (Reagans, 2011). Common criterias of humans are reasons why people are able to relate and become friends which in turn builds relationships as a result of their common interest. It allows them to see a new perspective of how they should feel towards what they have in common or what they have different. Difference does not necessarily mean that they will not like each other but it may also play a major role in establishing relationships.
People prefer to grow with others who complement their skills. Attraction is not limited to physical attraction, it may include being a complementary or compatible to someone (Dewey, 2017). It affects one's growth through how you react and interact with others. A great example would be people who work together as a team, they grow because their combined efforts create great benefits for themselves. People also prefer to develop with others who tend to look good, this is a physical attraction. This is because people rather grow with attractive than unattractive. People believe that can determine the compatibility of one person and another.
Numerous factors like similarities and reciprocity are big influences on how propinquity builds relationships but they are not limited to these factors, there are other reasons which may affect the creation of certain relationships. More often than not multiple factors are combined to affect the creation of these relationships. There are other factors but these common factors control the increase or decrease of these odds of constructing relationships.

Final Argumentative Essay
Lato, John Raniel A
EE 2
Internet, a New Age
Internet, the modern tool for learning and innovation. The internet with its many wonders enhances the ability of the student to learn and a way for teachers to help and improve their teachings.  The internet contains limitless knowledge as every day it continues to evolve. It is like an extension of a brain, just like how a sword is an extension of one's arm. In the 21st century almost everyone uses the internet and it has become an essential part of daily life. Although the internet may lure students to neglect their studies the vast information which helps the students results to more benefits.
Many people think that the internet is only accessible to the selected people who can afford it. However the internet has already helped the less fortunate. Public schools now incorporate lessons or information from the internet to their curriculum which allowed them to learn more things. In the last few years, the lower minority gains access to the internet (“The Journal of the Blacks in Higher Education”, 2010). Although some may argue that internet is expensive, the current day society is using the internet most of the time. In china alone, only users of the internet 5.3% and increasing (Tang, 2012).
The internet allows the student to break their limits which are bounded by traditional ways of studying such as accessibility to information and new resources and push to greater heights. The student and teacher may both grow with this technology. Through spontaneous teaching and questioning the boundaries of teaching and learning are pushed (Pearcy,2014).  Flexibility in learning is complemented with technology. Although incentive of students to learn has degraded due to them being not having to be physically present, however it makes it easier for the students to understand things as it allows more spontaneous interaction with teacher and student (Figlio, Rush & Yin, 2013). The internet also enforces the ability of a student to think more critically and effectively with more resource to help them achieve greater things. An example would be getting more ideas and concepts as a students continues to research(Cho, 2013). Students nowadays turn to internet for information as it store plenty. Research allows the student to critically evaluate the sources to be able to use it properly (Wiley et.al. , 2009).  The internet is a tool for information for students and an evaluation for teachers.
Cheating is one of the main problems in schools. Students tend to do them when all hope seems lost and the results become un pleasant as students are not putting effort to their own work.  The internet allows teachers and students alike to check their own papers using sites such as turnitin (Ma, Lu and Wan, 2008). Many would say that students are abusing the internet too much and is changing to do bad. Although the internet is used for both good and bad, the bad things can be easily used a lesson so that students will not commit them again (Wadley, 2011). Some say that the internet damages the person socially because of how he uses it for bad, but The internet is an opportunity to get better information (Robinson, 2001).
The internet makes the lives of students and teachers alike much easier. Programs such as Microsoft allow students to work on things and easily change when edits are to be made (Reuter,2007). The internet give students and teachers more benefits than harm and as such they should be given more opportunity to use the internet more for academic purposes.  Although the internet may lure students to neglect their studies, the vast information which guides them gives more benefits that harm.

POVERTY
An issue that our society experiences today is poverty. Poverty is an issue that has been present for centuries and is affecting many nations today. People living in poverty are generalised with small or no income, no permanent home or shelter and a cast away of society. Poverty is every evident but ignored by those who can make a difference as they are afraid to lose what they have.
The rich and wealthy manipulate people who are less fortunate. The rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. An example would be when companies would bait the poor into spending into their company, in essence it is like taking cant from a baby. Poverty is a state of mind where in the poor choose to be poor. They have the ability to change and leave poverty.  There is a saying "where there is a will there is a way" and only through mistakes that we learn. People should not be dependent on those who have more as they will not be sustained for long, they need independence which should have them change in time and will allow them to break free of what binds them into poverty.
Do not give a man fish but teach him how to fish, give opportunities and skills not temporary money. Poverty is a choice

looks good
People view the body in different ways. Some build their body to please others or even just to please themselves. Some are lucky and are naturally born with a good body. The appearance of a person can easily be seen through a persons's body The body of each person is unique. Many people think that how the looks of the body is most important. Body image may affect one's self esteem.
Appearance plays a major role in creating one's self esteem. A good body results to more self esteem as a person receives more praise. Working on one's body is important as it may result to depression. Accepting ones's body image will boost self esteem as a standard. A person's uniqueness is what should boost self esteem through body image. It is what separates us from one another. The body is not what should be given utter importance but it is the mind and personality that should be given importance as it is the one that builds character and the person itself.

good essay with great content but needs to be fixed grammatically
The Beauty of Race
Tumblr media
Retrieved from: https://www.statnews.com/2016/02/04/should-geneticists-move-beyond-race/
Race is the segregation of the humans into racial groups with the basis of common physical traits, genetics and cultural traits. With such a term comes discrimination, biases, and fear from one another, but in those words of fear brings out the beauty out from one another, as people will help and support one another in the time of need. Empathy replaces the fear that is merged in the heart of a person, thus bringing out the beauty of empathy and sovereignty.

Empathy for those around oneself gives one the to rise above the bigotry and fear of society. As empathy takes off the mantle of fear and misplaced anger on a certain, it connects to everyone and generates the sense of unity that many can fall back on. This breaks the social stereotype in society and this goes against the wishes of those that harbors hate and only wishes to bring fear in the populace, it gave society a somewhat sense of achievements, MLK’s accomplishment for Civil Human Rights, and the 9/11 attack that only strengthened and cultivated a stronger bond between each person ,such that shaped to what it its today.
It’s with the people that chose to rise and decided to bridge and reconnect the gap that society has built on other races that it has built the beauty that many savor and the infectious aura of empathy has gain change in society and has begin reaching to the youth, so that they could further cultivate the culture of empathy and further beautify the term race and connects people all over the world and makes the change for the betterment of society.

very informing in showing what the film is about but needs more sources to further back up your statement.
Not Just a Petty Disorder
There are multiple cases of psycho-traumatic events from all around the world experienced by different types of people from different races, cultures and social standings. As a result, post-traumatic stress disorder may affect anyone, as an individual cannot avoid the inevitability of an event that may affect his or her life. One cannot also choose how he or she responds to that event in particular, as it is based on his or her “mental coping mechanism”, as well as the severity of the event. Culture is a huge factor in how people are able to recover and cope up from such events. For example, in the Philippines, where mental-health is not readily promoted to be an area of concern, one may experience a harder time coping up with the effects of a psych-traumatic event compared to countries that are made aware of mental-health. Although, in an effort to provide mental-health awareness to Filipinos, multiple platforms have been made, especially those in mass media and entertainment. One such example that provides awareness to mental-health, especially PTSD in a subliminal and creative manner, is the Indie film “Ang Nawawala” (What Isn’t There) by Marie Jamora.
The film depicts the story of a family who lost a son (one of two twins) due to an accident caused due to the nature of the playful children. All the characters have significant roles, yet two characters stand out, the mother, Esme Bonifacio and the other twin son, Gibson Bonifacio, who have both been greatly mentally affected by the accident. The PTSD is primarily caused by the nature of the two characters after the accident in which the mother shows to the living twin who her “favorite” is between the two. As a coping mechanism, Gibson, even after ten years past the accident, does not speak, and Esme, develops a strict, authoritative nature towards her youngest daughter.

Ang Nawawala is back this July to celebrate its fourth anniversary  [Online image]. Retrieved from URL http://www.scoutmag.ph/section/culture/tv-movie/ang-nawawala-back-july-celebrate-fourth-anniversary/
Post-traumatic stress disorder gives off multiple misconceptions that cloud the understanding of those who are apathetic to mental illness, including that it only affects those who are traumatized by events such as war, it is not a real issue and mental problem, and that most people affected by it are unstable, and unable to contribute to society. “Ang Nawawala” gives off the experience of cinematography that presents post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as not just a concept, but rather an experience into the mind of the affected. As an example, it gives a deeper understanding of how one develops certain mechanisms to cope up with a traumatizing event, especially after the departure of someone close to a family. Another example is that it shows that a certain event (such as a family loss) does not just affect the individual who experienced the experience firsthand, but affects those who have created bonds and healthy relationships with the person. The title of the film itself is a giveaway in that it presents two people lost from their true identity because of the traumatizing experience both lead characters underwent.

[Gibson Bonifacio (right), with his deceased twin, Jamie Bonifacio (left)]
Aside from how certain events affect the lives of those who underwent a traumatic event, “Ang Nawawala” depicts how these certain experiences affect the relationships they form with other people. As an example, Gibson Bonifacio (the living twin), has trouble socializing with people he is not familiar with, due to his nature not to speak (his coping mechanism). Although, when a potential significant other comes to play in his life, she has become the catalyst to Gibson’s recovery into normal life, after ten years. A second example seen in the film depicts how Esme Bonifacio (mother) has become more protective and authoritative over her youngest daughter despite being the relaxed type of mother that she was before the event.
Although there are other films that show great example of how PTSD affects the actions and minds of the affected, the film “Ang Nawawala” depicts the disorder in a way that affects more people wholeheartedly due to the nature and genre of the story. As a result, more people are attracted and given new insights into the mind of those who suffer from the disorder on a day to day basis. “Ang Nawawala” does not just show the perspectives of those affected, but shows the actions and undertakings of those who have formed bonds and relationships with the troubled. One step into providing a more mentally aware society is through showing and depicting the images that form in the world of those who have gone through traumatizing experiences.

very informative and the explanation of what is inside the museum is well said.
“I Louvre you”
Tumblr media
A survey from Business Insider concluded that the most visited country by tourists as of the year 2014 is France, with a total of 81 million tourists annually. A more recent study conducted by Alex Salamanca  in the year 2015 shows that the number of visitors in France rose to  83.7 million per year. Therefore, we can say that France has numerous tourists spots that lead the country to its title and one of the famous tourists spot is The Louvre Museum which is known to be one of the largest museums in the world.
The Louvre Museum or in french “Musée du Louvre” was built in the year 1200 under a residency named Philip Augustus,  it was continually reconstructed until the year 2011; overall, the museum took  652,300 square feet of land. It consists of two structures, the Colonnade which is the east face of the Louvre museum and the glass pyramids which are structural icons. The Louvre Pyramids was built in the year 1988 which allows sunlight to enter the underground lobby of the museum and with its architectural design by architects Pierre Lescot, Louis Le Vau, and Claude Perrault it serves as a central landmark of Paris, France.
The artworks inside  Musée du Louvre includes Egyptian, Roman and Greek antiques from the middle ages to the year of 1848. And of course, Mona Lisa, the well-known painting of the famed artist Leonardo Da Vinci can also be found inside the Louvre museum. The artwork is only 21 by 30 inches in size, is protected by a bulletproof frame and armed guards because it was reported to be stolen in the year 1911; fortunately, it was retrieved in 1913. Other artworks that attract tourists are the Winged Victory sculpture, The Dying Slave by Michelangelo, Bathsheba at her bath, The Venus de Milo sculpture, and many more.
The Louvre museum in France, being the world’s most famous and largest art museum contributes to the increase in the tourist percentage of France. With its Baroque architectural design and notable artworks inside the museum, it will be no surprise if the number of visitors in France increase year after year.

Good topic but wikipedia is not a good source. the topic is very interesting but needs more information to help non gamers.
Warframe - The Planes of Eidolon Trailer Retrieved form: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX2Gz6CQPlo
The newest hype of the 3rd person co-op shooter game Warframe; Th Planes of Eidolon (POE), is an expansion of the Warframe series which makes the game an MMORPG turns it into a vast open-world setting which covers the mechanics of the previous expansions of Warframe (archwing, trading and bounties), also adding new features such as fishing, forging of weapons, hunting, and mining. This makes it more interesting due to the various level outputs of the opponents scattered across the map. With this expansion it garnered such recognition world wide and had an increase of players by October 2017.

Warframe(2012) is a 3rd Person shooter game made by Digital Extremes (DE) which adapted the same concept of DE’s first game darkSectors(2008), as both games entails various factions trying to outdo one another after a devastating war resulting the decimation of the Tenno Faction. It gives the players a variety of characters to choose from, depending on the style you play, may it be support, front, tank, healer or mid. The game is also free to play, also being connected to the Steam Community giving the game a much open game play, giving it more data to use on various gaming events.
The POE expansion gives the veteran players a chance to do something to do other than grinding to increase Mastery Rank(MR) and experience the wonders of fishing! And to raid the opposing faction to reclaim the area of the people of Eidolon, giving the players also to mingle in the town of Eidolon to also use the new feature, forging, but it only limits to the melee weapons, and to acquire such feature, is to also finish the prerequisite of the previous expansion (The War Within and The Second Dream). Though with such features come the price to play the expansion, like the data usage of 3.2 GB for the POE expansion, and the tiring grind to solve the said prerequisite above.
The POE expansion of Warframe may be one of DE’s crowning success in the Warframe series, and that the players are given the chance to do much more in the game giving them the feeling of a more direct approach to the MMORPG type of setting for this expansion pack. I would highly recommend to play the game but with a computer much more equipped for such a massive update in the game.

We Want the Powah
People crave for power. Ever since the ancient times difference in power have been very evident. In ancient Egypt,  power can be seen in the class-system, where in the pharaoh which is on top of the pyramid have the most power while slaves at the bottom do not have any as they are treated as object which can be traded and etc.
Tumblr media
Image source: Ancient Egypt Social Structure by: Penny Williams 5th hour. [Online Image] Retrieved from: https://www.thinglink.com/scene/885586337846001665
Power can be related to addiction, usually when a person gains power they crave for more and wants to stay in power as long as they can. Just like in present day, the world is ruled by the powerful. In countries political leaders run to gain power and when their term is over they let a relative run after them so that they can continue to stay in power. Thus the term political-dynasties is created. There is a saying, " money is power".  In current day society everything revolves around money, the government is controlled by the rich while the poor are robbed of their money. Countries also fear other countries as countries have the "military power" they have the strength to fight and protect their own land or take land from other countries.
Influences and power come hand-in-hand. Influences can help a person gain power. By playing with the minds of the other person power can be shifted. Imagine power as a game of chess, wherein generally the more pieces you have the stronger you are but that not necessarily mean that they already won.
Power manipulates people, they can either do good or do harm with that power. Power has its ups and downs, more responsibilities but more freedom. In the movie spiderman, uncle Ben said "with great power comes great responsibilities".

Race, a competition in which you strive to be on top. A competition in which you can see who is better than the other. People too want to be better than the other,"The Alpha". Thus racial discrimination is born. Race is determined usually by origin and by appearance. There are 3 or 4 races recognized by anthropologists which are the Caucasian, Mongoloid, Negroid and Australoid. Caucasian people are mostly from the Americas and European countries, they have long noses. Mongoloid people are usually from asian countries like China, Mongolia and Japan. Negroid people are usually from African countries and they have mostly dark skins. People create discrimination between these races a good example would be U.S.A they have the "blacks" and the "whites". The white believe they are superior towards the black due to their skin color and this is a very big problem today. Plenty of people create these discriminations by putting a race over another but the truth is all races are equal. No race is better than the other, all races have their own unique set of skills. Most of which are to adapt to the environment in which they live in. Each race should be treated with respect as none of them is better than the other.

Time Heals
Post-Traumatic stress disorder, simply known as PTSD. It greatly affects the a person mental health, it is when the memory of a tragic event that happened in the past haunts their present selves which causes them to be stressed over thinking of that memory. This can last from days to months to years. One of the most common cause for PTSD is losing someone you love, this is because their memory will always be part of something in your life.

Ang Nawawala is a Filipino film which contains PTSD and it greatly depicts what it can do to people and others. The title itself which translates to Lost;Nawawala. Gibson Bonifacio one of the main characters in the story who is experiencing PTSD, as a result he chooses not to talk. He lost his twin brother in an accident which was a trigger of his mental condition. He wanted to cope with the fact that he lost his brother and that all they remember was his brother and not him.
Time really does heal, the mind needs time to let off steam and rest and these coping mechanisms don’t last forever. The film shows that life still continues even if it is very painful, time will not stop for you but you need to cope with time because it is time that heals you, just like in the film Gibson and his mom in the end realize that they can not live like this and that they should accept that he is gone and live with that fact with no burden on themselves.
Problems are not what limits us, it is the choice to deal with those problems which binds us into shortcomings.

What’s so Funny?
Comedians finds ways to defy our way of thinking, they make things work even though they are not suppose to. This is how comedians make people laugh. Stand-up comedy is comedy exhibited in front of a live audience. This is what makes them so unique. Bo Burnham and Tim Minchin are two great examples with two particular kind of way to portray stand-up comedy.
Foul languages are good ways to create comedy. Bo Burnham uses music and stories to make the audience laugh. Tim Minchin too likes to make use of a piano and stories to create laughter in the audience. Both of them combine music and stories with foul language, and how they make nonsense sound very good. Both of them uses unpredictability which captures the crowd off guard and this helps make them laugh. Unpredictability allows the audience to be of what the next joke may be which creates suspense and laughter when the next punchline comes.
Even though they may have similarities, they have things that make them unique. Bo Burnham speak in a way where it is not very controversial or edgy. Tim Minchin on the other hand likes to tell jokes which are straight to the point. Tim creates stories and tells them to the listeners. Bo likes to talk with the audience, have a conversation with them. These things are just some of their differences.
Both of comedians are great in their own unique way. They are able to showcase their own style. Similar in some and different in some but both great comedy. Bo and Tim may be similar on how they like to give the kind of joke but they have different ways of telling them to the audience and this is not bad because they create variety which gives off uniqueness. Their role is to make us happy and to make us laugh one way or the other they have done it.

A disease that does not destroy the body. It is like a cancer that eats away you as a person, feelings and thought. It is a hell in reality;unimaginable. Knowing that happiness would be bound to agony. You lose sight of happiness and cling unto misery, emptiness and loneliness.
Depression creates thoughts of suicide. you feel empty and cold. Your mind starts to wonder, starts to get lost. Demons emerge from the darkest corners of your mind and break you when your most vaunerable. Spending long hours crying in silence or screaming in tears. Your mind will slowly get consumed by the darkness that lies within you and no one will understand you. Self-esteem will falter, not allowing anyone to help you and slowly you’ll watch yourself get destroyed.
You won’t always feel empty. You will cling unto hope, that one day you will get better. That someday you will feel real happiness. Your only strength will be the will and that glimmer of light that one day everything will get better.
When things goes wrong again, you will break and fall apart. Back to the start and repeat everything all over. Going back to the pain that broke you. Foolish of you,  to imagine that some day you will feel better.

My first impression of ENGLCOM was just back to basics. Thinking it was just normal english class, but it was not. It was not l quickly realise that its not like high school. ENGLCOM was not just lessons and tests, it is things we apply in everyday life, from how we use the internet to how we talk to other people. Things we think we know but we really do not.
The video I have chosen is the alphabet nursery rhyme. It portrays my current level in ENGLCOM, just like how children have to learn the alphabet before learning how to read and write. The alphabet is the most basic in terms of english, it is what creates the words we read and write. ENGLCOM makes me feel like a child again and it motivates me to learn the basics of reading and writing again. What I learned before may have flaws and I was not able to understand what the proper way of writing is, especially that I am very weak in grammar and spelling.
The video shows to dream big but start small. Just like english, start with letters then words then sentences then paragraphs then stories.
