The "beach episode" prompt from @carlyraejepsans was exactly the excuse I needed to draw Alma and Cabanela in this outfit that I've been thinking about as Very Them™ for AGES. See Jowd's list of excuses for why he's not the one playing "matching outfits" with his own wife XD

however, it was also requested that Cabanela be completely ridiculous, so:

(kamila voice) And I brought you a pool noodle too in case you need it

(cabanela voice) thanks, baby.

Kamila invited Cabanela to play in the pool, but he's only here to lounge attractively and get tan...however, he said the wrong thing as an excuse, and now Kamila thinks he can't swim very well and has made it her personal mission to allow Uncle Cabs to safely enjoy the water. What's he going to do, crush her dreams??? No. Uncle duty calls, and it means letting your niece "help" you as much as she wants.

Alma is putting these photos directly in the photo album the moment they're developed. she's going to treasure them forever.

I had more ambitious plans for Ghost Swap than just this, but unfortunately. Life.

However, one is better than zero (and with the new expanded posting dates it won’t be impossible to do more, hopefully) so @azurefishnets and @laughingmango, here’s something for the FFVI AU free square! Idk/I don’t remember actually if Yomiel’s a mime like Gogo but I liked the idea of them miming each other. The only question is, which one started it? 🤔🤔🤔

The Chicken Dance

Not every case that came to the Special Investigation Unit was as glamorous as staking out Point X for international operations involving the relocation of spirits. In some timelines, they were as plain as... staking out Point X for international operations involving the relocation of spirits?

They got an anonymous tip about a suspicious amount of cash hidden in a safe upstairs. Nothing illegal, and not much of a sign by itself—but paired with reports of unmarked vans frequenting Dead End Drive, a special investigation felt more warranted.

Was the head inspector's personal involvement warranted? Perhaps not, but he felt an inexplicable pull to the place. Deja vu, some sense that the Chicken Kitchen was important (beyond a few of his associates' regular patronage). And he hadn't gotten this far by ignoring his instincts.

With such a small staff running the restaurant, it wasn’t hard to pinpoint the head chef as the chief person of interest in the smuggling of banned wines from a certain other country. But observation from the outside would get them no further.

Enter Sous Chef Cabanela.

Bogus professional recommendations were easy enough to secure, but once he made it in, it would be a game of patience. A delicate dance for just enough information at just the right time.

On occasion, it was a very literal dance. Restaurant safety protocol be danged, there was only so long a good sous chef could stand still beside such a prodigious vocalist—with a convenient spinning platform right there, no less.

Then one day, a slip (figurative).

The kitchen getting a little smoky was no rare occurrence. The chef scrambling to stop his second in command from activating the fans, however, was. They were in need of repairs, he claimed hastily, as they sometimes were. It would be fixed soon enough, but in the meantime it was better to simply bask in the beautiful smoky scent of chicken, wouldn't you agree?

Cabanela could always go for a good basking, of course, and did so long enough that the chef didn't suspect a thing when the sous chef eventually stepped out for a moment to check on the customers...

Precisely how Jowd could fit in the ventilation system—let alone navigate it quietly—only the gods knew, but the sous chef was good and well back at his own station when his associate uncovered the stash of bottles overhead.

Once the head chef was confronted with the evidence, oh did he sing (figurative; literal).

It was almost a shame for the dance to finish—but so it always was. Another dance would come, sooner or later. First, Cabanela owed this partner a proper finale.

So with an absurdly low dip, he spun his back to the soon-to-be jailbird with a snap. Cabanela cast one last gaze over his shoulder—

"Don't you worry, now. Since I know you love a good dance... I think you'll jive with your guard juuuuust fine."

—and sashayed away.

They both have a dramatic bent, so SURELY Cabanela and the owner of Jowd's favorite restaurant can come to an understanding in some way… even if it's via song! (…or a rap battle?!)" (@azurefishnets). Hopefully I retained enough of the original intentions to enjoy!
