Theres something that was lost in layton and i cant really describe it without getting wordy.

I want to say that it was officially gone in lmj/lmda but the blame goes further back and for once it isnt really level 5s fault. So enough beating around the bush. Layton lost its sense of atmosphere. Its lost in essence, its ambience, in a strange kind of way.

It started with the shift from 2d to 3d, then it was ambition, and finally a shift in music. Im going to be discussing the music aspect bc its the one that ive notice the most.

We all know that the music of the original professor layton series has a very signature style, personally, i see it as having tango elements. Stylish music is so important to the layton series because it builds the world the characters are in and it gives the exact vibes it wants you to feel. It works with the color pallet of the game. We dont only see this is hershels games, we see it in lbmr too.

In alfendi's game, the colors are sharper, the lines are a bit lighter and over all gives that comic book feel which is important because its this comic book noir game thats snappier than hershels game. Of course they choose jazz to be the games main music style. Its classy, its edgy and its modern. So, what is the point im getting to?

My point is that lmj, albeit having a good sound track, is too generic. Its generic orchestra, academic music if you will. It doesnt try to capture an essence and it clashes with the color pallet. It has no face, it has no style. I dont know about you but i cant remember a good number of the songs in lmj, i dont even remember what the puzzle music sounds like. Only the main theme but thats it.

There are many things lost in layton but i think one of the most devistating was the loss of style in their music
