She’s hot, but not exactly the focus of what I’m trying to do here.” Whatever it was that Margo and Lucifer were doing, she didn’t have any need for his guard dog to enjoy her presence. “While I am an excellent distraction, I’m honestly a little impressed. I trust Fen with my life but leaving her in charge of Fillory still nearly breaks me out in hives.” If it couldn’t be Eliot and Quentin, Fen was the next best thing. But relinquishing control of anything never felt good. Not for Margo. “Eh, it’s not so bad. Then again, I’m more than used to it at this point. Opium in the air is the least of Fillory’s problems.” She shrugged, knowing that was barely scratching the surface but getting into all of the shit that was wrong with her kingdom opened a Pandora’s box of long stories. Margo blinked, raising her eyebrows before she let out a laugh. “A cat person? Now, that is by far the most surprising thing you’ve told me yet.”

Lucifer wasn’t stupid enough to question Margo of all people about what her intentions were then. Things between them were delicate, and scaring her off wouldn’t get him the outcome he wanted. Instead he simply raised his eyebrows looking over at her. “She is gorgeous in her own ways, but I have to admit I’m glad it’s not her looks that you’re after.” It didn’t matter if that was his closest friend, he would have had cut her out if it meant a chance with Margo. “No kingdom is perfect. There’s always going to be problems to figure out, but that’s our jobs as leaders.” He quickly moved to cover his heart as if he was wounded as he looked over at her. “And why is that so surprising, my dear?”

Margo let out a small hum and she nodded. “I don’t think she’s my biggest fan.” Plenty of people weren’t, so it wasn’t exactly breaking news. She had a feeling that Mazikeen rarely liked anyone, either. “Huh. Well. I can’t say I don’t relate.” Whether it was for better or worse, Margo was a leader before anything else. Well, other than a magician. In Fillory, the two went hand-in-hand. Eliot may have been High King first, but she had earned the job and knew that she was good at it. “Fair warning, the air’s got opium. You get used to it.” It didn’t bother her much, but she had never been exactly innocent to drugs in New York, either. “That’s going to be so sad for you.” Margo teased, a smirk on her for her. “I didn’t figure you for a dog person.”

“In your defense she’s not a fan of anyone. She barely tolerates me on the best of days to say anything about anyone else,” no he knew that Mazikeen was a difficult person, but at least she was loyal. It was the most important thing to Lucifer to have that to rely on. “Ah, well I had centuries of experience before I allowed anyone else to even think about stepping in. It’s for the best that I step away and clear my head, and perhaps distract myself with a gorgeous woman.” He had no doubt that he was able to trust that his realm was in the best hands possible if they were not his own. His lips twitched upwards are he raised his eyebrows, “That certainly sounds like something to adjust to.” Although it did sound enjoyable at the very least. “I’m not a dog person unless they’re my own. The truth is I’m smitten for adorable kittens,” he teased turning his attention to her.

“Hmm. Oh, right. Mazikeen or whatever.” Margo was well aware of who she was, and what she was. Maze wasn’t exactly shy about it, and the first time they’d met there had been plenty of threatening involved. “Well. In that case, if you want to come see the walking cautionary tale I’m trying to bring into the twenty-first century, I think that can be arranged.” She hummed, a slight smirk on her lips. The idea of sharing Fillory with people was still odd for her, at least those who weren’t her friends and hadn’t ended up there with her. “I don’t even know where the fuck the knife is these days, but if I track it down you’re welcome to try it out.” She shrugged. Goading any god wasn’t a smart idea, but she didn’t care. It wasn’t like she hadn’t done worse. Margo wasn’t oblivious to the way Lucifer’s face lit up, and she was only borderline annoyed with herself for the way it mirrored on her own face. “Shit. A three headed dog.” In no way was it even top ten of the weirdest things she’d found out since getting to Brakebills. “And why exactly would that be unfortunate?”

“Yes the darling, Maze,” Lucifer teased although truth be told he wasn’t quite sure what he would do if it wasn’t for Mazikeen no matter the amount of hell that usually occurred whenever he mentioned Margo with his friend. Or at least Maze was the closest thing to a friend that he actually had, but that didn’t mean he got away without hearing how whipped he supposedly was by the gorgeous King. “As long as she doesn’t mind taking care of business, which she enjoys anything that gives her authority so that shouldn’t be a problem, then I will be all yours to show around,” he made a gesture with a dramatic bow before laughing it off and looking back over towards her. “I only say unfortunate because I know without a doubt I will lose you to my gentle beast who will be absolutely wrapped around your pinky. I’ll lose you and my favorite dog in one go.”

“You think Lux can spare its owner long enough for that?” Margo asked. She couldn’t help goading him, not when she knew the answer. Usually the idea of letting any man stick around long enough to do whatever she wanted would have been boring, but so far that hadn’t happened. She wasn’t sure if it would last but Lucifer was a lot more than a man, anyway. “Fillory would take a lot more than a day trip to take it all in, believe me. We’ve been there two years and it still feels like a major acid trip sometimes.” And, well, it probably was knowing the way Josh baked drugs into everything and Eliot liked to cope with denial. “Would a fancy Fillorian god killing knife work on your dad?” Honestly, she had no idea but then again none of them had any fucking clue what they were doing half the time. Margo nearly stopped her stride, her eyebrows raising slightly. “Cerberus. You’ve really got a three headed dog?” She scoffed out a laugh, shaking her head. “Of course you do.”

“I think if I need to take a break that Lux would be in perfectly capable hands if I leave it for a few days or even a week with a friend,” he certainly wouldn’t question the people he left it too. Things ran smoothly rather he was there or not at least, and he was sure there were certain people who would be over the moon if he took a break. “I’m sure I can give you and Fillory my undivided attention for at least a week at a time so I can truly get to know it’s charms as much as I can. Unfortunately though I’m sure your magical god killing knife would only work on pissing him off even more which would still bring me immense joy.” Lucifer was fairly certain at least that there was literally no way to kill his dad, but he could at least try to piss him off as much as possible. He could even feel the way his face lit up at the mention of his dog. He did miss the big beast whenever he was away. “Of course I do. Although I’m sure they’d be just as smitten with you which is truly unfortunate for myself.”
