BADMINTON

INTRODUCTION

Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" and "doubles".

It is one of the games that we play during our time in Physical Education. Badminton is far from violent, it is played with less physical contact with your opponent. Some were introduced to badminton when they were young, maybe because it's not that really hard to understand and play. 'Stay far away from each other, serve the shuttlecock, receive the shuttlecock, and repeat'. But as time goes by the basic steps would change according to the players will to win. 'Stay far away from each other, be cautious and precise at your serving, be flexible at receiving and improve'. It's a fun peaceful sport where you can also gain sweat. Either from being competitive, or picking up your or your opponents shuttlecock that are served sloppily.

Aside from playing badminton it also have its benefits to our physical health and it also reduce the stress and anxiety that we feel. It's not that really tiring to play. It depends on the player if he wants to play it as a serious exercise or just a stress reliever. Badminton helps a player to stay fit and lose weight, tone muscles, improves metabolic rate, increases concentration and reflex action, and cures hypertension. Badminton is a social sport. The person gets to play with different people who play the same sport which might result in a positive feel. It keeps the player active and improves his mood and sleep. This will, in turn, help him relax and reduce stress and anxiety.

PROCEDURES ON HOW TO PLAY BADMINTON

Understand how a player can get a fault. There are several reasons that a team or player can earn a fault.

Here they are:

When the shuttlecock is served, the shuttlecock must be hit to a point higher or at the server's waist otherwise it's a fault. If any part of the racket at the point of striking wasn't higher than any part of the serving player's hand, a fault can be given.

If the serving team fails to serve the shuttlecock over the net. The shuttlecock must be hit only once by the same player is to be considered fair in badminton. In badminton, you only get one try on each serve.

The only exception is if your team gets a let, which is when the shuttlecock hits the net and falls over into the opponent's court. In that case, you get another try.

If you hit the shuttlecock into or under the net at any point in the game.

If the shuttlecock hits you.

If you hit the shuttlecock out of bounds or passes around or under the net to the player on the other side. Shuttlecocks falling on the line can be deemed as fair-play.

If you hit the shuttlecock on the ground on your side of the court or had extended beyond the longest service line, these contribute to a fault.

If the server fails to serve the shuttlecock into the correct opposing court.

If any player attempts to (successful or unsuccessful) obstruct their opponent in any way, these contribute to a fault on that player.

The feet of any player must be completely within the service court at the time of play - otherwise a fault will be called.

If the player is able to touch the badminton net with any piece of equipment including their clothes or any body part, this contributes to faults.

Balks contribute to a badminton fault too.

Learn the basic ways to strike the shuttlecock. The standard badminton racket is 26 inches (66.0 cm) long and weights anywhere from 4.5-5.5 ounces. Most of them are made with metal and nylon, and you'll need to generate enough energy to effectively strike the shuttlecock with this light racket. The main strokes are the forehand and the backhand (as in tennis) and you'll need a light, quick wrist to effectively strike the shuttle.

Here's what you need to know about striking the shuttlecock:

It's all about the footwork. See the shuttle and use several small steps to position yourself so that you can easily strike it instead of having to stretch too much.

You'll need to practice the backswing, the forward swing and hit, and the follow through in order to hit the shuttle effectively. You should hit the shuttle's round center, not the feathers of the shuttle.

Perfect your clear shot. This is the most common shot and the goal is to strike the shuttle in a way that moves your opponent away from the net, which gives you time to set up your next shot.

Practice your drop shot.

To hit this shot effectively, you'll have to hit a slow, gentle shot that makes the shuttle fall just over the net, making it hard to reach for your opponent, no matter how fast he runs.

Smash the shuttle.

This is a powerful shot that you use to hit a shuttle that is above the height of the net. You'll need to raise you're racket behind your back, as if you were going to scratch it, anticipate the shuttle coming your way, and then hit it hard, diagonally down, as if you were smashing it over a fence.

Drive the shuttle.

This can be a forehand or a backhand shot that makes the shuttle move parallel to the ground, just barely passing over the net, making it hard for your opponent to anticipate or return your shot.

Recognize that servers must be able to understand when his opponents looks ready to receive the stroke. The server must not serve when the opponent doesn't seem ready to receive.

Both players must be standing within the confines of the court with both feet stationary in contact with the ground until the server delivers the ball to their opponent. However, players must not stand on either of any of the lines painted on the ground - for these are considered to be outside of the service court's area.

ENDING

Now you know how to play badminton, it won't hurt if you try it. Playing Badminton will be an incredible learning experience. When you take it seriously it can actually develop you as a better person, just like other sports do. When you play the game frequently it will make you want to enhance your skills until you perfect it. Playing badminton is more fun than sitting for twelve hours playing computer games. Badminton is easy, it has its benefits, and it's fun!

GENERAL ACADEMIC STRAND VS. ACCOUNTANCY BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

We students struggles when it comes to decision making, especially when it comes to the track/strand that we are going to take or choose in k-12 program. We need to spend a lot of time since we're having a hard time in choosing a school that has a good quality of education and has an affordable price when it comes to tuition fees. But no worries, we're here to help you decide where you'd feel affordable the most!

The main purpose of k to 12 program is to give equal chances for the students who graduated in high school with academic and learning skills that can be enhance and can be a leader of the community and also to give them the good opportunities that can have because of the k to 12 program , this chances can be lead to pursue their success and also lead a quite life .

DIFFERENT STRAND/TRACK

STEM strand (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

Under this track/strand you can become a pilot, architect, biologist, chemist, doctor/nurse etc.

2. GAS (General Academic Strand)

It is great for the students who are still undecided on which track/strand to take or choose in SHS

3. ABM ( Accountacy Business Management )

This strand is designed for you to develop and trained to your journey in the corporate world . You as a ABM student you should expect that you will studying about management and financial accounting that involve the business or the organization. ABM strand can take you in a direct path to careers specially in accounting and management under of this is sales management, human resources, marketing director, bookkeeper, project officer, accounting clerk, internal auditor, and many more. At last ABM's is about the money because being a ABM student you need know how to handle the assets and liabilities.

4. HUMMS (Humanities and Social Sciences)

The HUMMS  strand is designed for those who wonder what is on the other side of the wall. In other words, you are ready to take on the world and talk to a lot of people and explore what and why the possible things can happened.

5. TVL (Technical - Vocational Livelihood)

This track/strand focus on the investment of primarily skills that you can gain like certificates that can be essential for you when you're looking for a better career or opportunities in agriculture, electronics etc. and especially when applying abroad.

Liceo De Los Baños is the only catholic school in Los Baños that offers 2 strand for the incoming SHS students which is the GAS and ABM Strand. Liceo De Los Baños also offers a scholarship from incoming grade 7 students which is the ESC while in the incoming grade 11 they do offer Voucher that came from the government. In Liceo De Los Baños both strand have an equal oppotunities that really helps you to reach your goal and give a right path for every student dreams.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TWO STRAND

General Academic Strand

The GAS student have to many interests. They have specialized subjects from all other strands like STEM and HUMMS. There are differences when it comes to the activities and subjects taken from STEM,ABM & HUMMS, like Pol Gov, Basic Calculus, Pre Cal and FABM 1 . A disadvantage of this strand is that it does not focus in one particular subject. But the advantage of it is that the students in help would not be disappointed because they are given the choice to explore the subjects of the rest three strands (STEM,HUMMS and ABM), with that it would be easier for them to decide what would they like to pursue on college. The different subjects in GAS would help the student to identify his or her strength and weakness.

Accountancy Business Management

Accountancy Business and Management unlike General Academic Strand , focuses on a specific foundational concepts. The strand aims to teach the ABM students the corporate operations, financial management, business management and every factor that revolves around its central fields. The ABM of Liceo De Los Baños caters great service for their students. Liceo De Los Baños ABM strands is a member of the Philippine Junior Marketing Association (PJMA), this is a good bargain for the ABM students because they get to attend on PJMA'S event which have famous businessmen and women who shares their strategies in life in the business world. Another activity that would win the hearts of ABM students -- especially those who want to pursue their passion for accounting ; is the school's opportunity to participate in the NC3 book keeping . NC3 book keeping is a special exam for the students who want to have a certifiacate in Accounting.

General Academic Strand and Accountancy and Business Management are both academic strand that you can take in Senior Highschool , the both strand offer good opportunities , they were both give equal chances to the students to enhance their skills and knowledge in their chosen track/strand. In Liceo De Los Baños ,both GAS and ABM students are given the opportunity to experience a good quality work immersion in preparation for their college or future.

 However if you’re not into hiking, there is a place called Botanical Garden not far away from the Makiling Trails’ entrance. Botanical Garden is a very beautiful place, surrounded with tall trees, a small water fall and picnic tables!

According to the United Nations with the help of  Worldometers, there is an estimated 7.7 billion people living on Earth as of November 2018. Imagine that, billions of people living on the same planet, stepping on the same old land that their grandparents’ grandparents had probably walked on. People are trying to live their best life on a planet that is already 4.54 billion years old. It’s amazing, that for 4.54 billion years the planet Earth has never failed all the species—living and non-living, especially humanity, to support them with their basic needs. The land, air, heat and water, it was perfectly given to us ever since day one. But as the years pass by, it’s like we’re slowly forgetting how the Earth has been there for us. She gave all to us and in return majority of us have abused her generosity. Earth has never failed us and now here we are…failing her, destructing her beauty, corrupting her kindness and being the sinful mortals that we truly are. I know a lot of people living here today are aware that nothing in this world is free. We pay, we pay for everything, sometimes we pay in cash and there are times that we pay for the consequences. Humanity’s Cruelty V.S  Climate Change

 Ever since the day when a person with an intellect was born, the humanity learned to survive life by sustaining the crops and maintaining animal’s population that was originally on Earth before they came. We would not be here if our ancestors have not sustained their foods and materials for their and our generation. Sustainability is the ability to avoid the consumption of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance or the balance of nature. The catch is that, the rapid growth of our population makes it hard for us to sustain those what are left for us. And whose fault is it???--- o u r s.

We are well aware how some of us lack basic discipline. Some people tend to get abusive because of the freedom that we have. Money is a factor that possessed a blinding power. Put it in the wrong hand and the next thing you’d know is that the world’s falling apart faster than normal. Hundreds of old trees that produce oxygen are being cut down in order to replace it with new factories that release killer smoke. Destructive mining that would eventually kill people because of its huge risk of landslide. The improper garbage disposal, the stacks of garbage are thrown to the bodies of water choking or killing turtles and the other marine creatures with the plastic and straws. The human’s abuse towards the land, air, heat and water results to Climate Change, which is the general change in the climate pattern, usually characterized by increase atmospheric temperatures, changes in cloud cover, melting of ice caps and glaciers.

According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA, our planet is changing now and Earth could change in the future. From rising sea levels to the changing availability of freshwater. World Wild Life also said that the sea levels are rising and the oceans are becoming warmer. They also said that the droughts are getting intense and have a huge threat for the crops, wildlife and freshwater supplies. From polar bears in the Arctic to marine turtles off the coast of Africa, they are aware that our planet’s diversity of life is at risk from the changing climate.

 The Wrath of the Climate Change

Climate change is a necessary warning for us humans. It has a huge effect towards the places, species and our livelihood that we rely on in order to live. There are a lot of reasons why we are experiencing climate change.

World Wild Life (WWF) explained that, greenhouses gases, such as carbon dioxide, trap heat in the atmosphere and regulate our climate. These gases exist naturally, but we add more carbon dioxide by burning fossil fuels for energy (coal, oil, and natural gas) and by clearing forests. Greenhouse gases act like a blanket. The thicker the blanket, the warmer our planet becomes. At the same time, the Earth’s oceans are also absorbing some of this extra carbon dioxide, making them more acidic and less hospitable for sea life.

The rapid increase of our global temperature is crucially changing our planet’s climate, resulting in more extreme and unpredictable weather. In our case, heat waves are occurring frequently and many places are experiencing record droughts followed by intense rainfalls.

It is our fault in the very beginning, so here we are paying for the consequences of our actions. Along with the down fall of Earth is the down fall of humanity. Humans and wild animals would be encountering more challenge and struggle in order to survive life because of climate change.  We would experience more frequent and intense drought, storms, heat waves, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and warming oceans that could directly harm animals, destroy the places they live, and wreak havoc on people’s livelihoods and communities.

  For me the youth do not realize that most of the activities that they do actually cause climate change. Most of them do not understand that economic growth and climate change goes hand in hand. Some youth are not ready to fight climate change or they don’t know to how to prevent it. Maybe some of the kids in our generation do not know what climate change is, and how destructive it could be. In order to raise more awareness about climate change it would be great if more people would step up to create or use their platforms to share their knowledge towards climate change and make the people—especially the youth, because they are the future generation--- aware about the threats of Climate Change.

 We all know global warming is one of the serious cases that we are facing right now. Climate change and global warming is affecting us not only in our environment but also in our health.  I could say that we could consider it as a factor for our health issue. At our present time it is easy for us to feel the sun’s damaging heat, unlike in those past few years where we could stay under the sun until 9am or 10am.  But as the years went by, you can only stay outside from 7am to 8am because if you would be out 12 noon, the extreme heat would make you feel nauseous.  If all of the nation would be united for the issue of our world’s environmental case we can still have the chance to prevent its rising threats and destructions. We need to be responsible for our actions; we’re not supposed to ignore it because we are the only solution. We are the beginning of this problem; we’re supposed to be the one to give an end, and not the one who would be ended by it.

 I believe that other human activities, such as deforestation, could also lead to the consequences of the climate change to get worst. We have to use our energy wisely, focusing on life's simple pleasure. Sharing, making, fixing, recycling, repurposing and compositing are all good places to start with. It's sad to imagine that we, as individuals cannot resolve the issues about climate change instantly.  Healthy planet and stable climate aren't political issues. They are all about families, communities, energy system and humanity's future.  Everybody should participate in order to have a better world.

 In this generation, people don’t really care about the climate change or they didn’t know that climate change is a serious problem for us. People tend to give more attention to social media’s political issues rather than the environment’s health, climate change for example. But even if the social media publicize or broadcast that issue it’s either there would be a few people that would listen to it because the way they deliver it does not reach the majority of the channel’s viewers’ or listeners’ interest. Or they would be overreacting things and panic about the information that they have gathered.  If those people chose to ignore or to panic, it’s up to them. The warning about the threats of Climate Change had got to them. They heard it but they did not listen to it. They were threatened yet they refuse to deal with it.

 The Helpful Solutions

 Climate change is not a murder, it’s our suicide. We’re too caught up with the pros that we did not notice the weight of its cons. Then once we realize it we think it’s too late because of how large the problem was. But the thing is that, it’s never too late to do something worth life changing. Trying then failing is way better than giving up before trying. We need to get it in our heads that it was our fault in the very start. It’s our responsibility to pay and fix the things that we’ve done.

So to successfully deal with this crisis we must urgently reduce carbon pollution and prepare ourselves for the consequences of global warming, which we are already experiencing.  

Here are some solutions that would help us to face climate change:

-          Plant more trees!

-          Be Eco-friendly, be a creative person who recycles

-          Avoid using too much plastic, learn proper segregation and disposal

§      Raise more awareness to Climate Change

-          Conduct seminars or events about climate change
