Giovanni
With how long he’s been a gym leader, a summons from the Indigo League is common enough that he’d hardly blinked when his secretary had passed him a familiar looking envelope. It happens at least once a year, twice when there’s a gifted trainer that sweeps through their ranks with all the chaotic force of a hurricane. A new champion is herald for change. It’s new blood that trickles from the very top, dripping on the lower echelons from elite four to gym leader and even further down. Truthfully, he’d been expecting such an invitation after that fateful encounter with the girl.
The change comes with no real surprise. Isolated and distanced as he is from league business and his supposed peers, he still manages to hear of the rumours whispered within the halls of every gym and every pokémon centre. It’s the worst kept secret that Agatha had long been planning on retiring and that Lorelei would be stepping down to focus on her academic career. Nor is he surprised when he’s asked once again, for the eighth year in a row, to assume one of the vacant positions.
Two decades ago, such an invitation might have come as an honour. What trainer hasn’t thought of becoming a member of the Elite Four at least once in their career. Giovanni would be lying if he said otherwise. Back when being a gym leader had been more than a front, a sleight of hand to fool a captive audience. Then he’d been pulled away by other pursuits, tugged and leashed to the ever expanding Team Rocket. What use did he have for the instability of such a position when he had his own kingdom to oversee?
It’s a safe assumption that Lance only asked as a formality, that much is obvious when the boy looks shocked when Giovanni accepts. It only snowballs from there, the great change, the great winds of that buffets all of the League. And there is the girl at the head of it, hardly the victorious champion he’d been expecting. From the first meeting and onward, all Giovanni had seen was a girl ready to tumble and fall at one more strong gust.
He waits for her, seated on a bench outside the Indigo Plateau, hardly interested in the view from so high above. Giovanni takes one look at the girl, sees the unmistakable red tinge to her eyes and his attention is back to the vast stretch of dark forest below.
“What sport would there be in betting on such sure odds?” He leans back on the bench, arms thrown over the back as though he were some simpleton caught up in the splendour of yet another mundane sunset. “I’d come all this way expecting to be challenged. At the very least to be entertained. Thus far, I’m only bored.”
Smoke curled in thin tendrils from the cigarette and vanished into the wind. The thin amber warmth of the butt did little for the chill that settled down her spine and drifted like detritus into her toes. Unspoken frustration bubbled under her chest, it was unspeakable. There had been a news headline she’d seen, one that blared past her vision in a bright red banner. New Indigo Champion Comes With Host of Disciplinary Issues in School. They dragged out her school records and aired out her dirty laundry for the entire world to say. At least what they could find. Leaf failed to mention her track record of kleptomania.
In a meeting of college graduates Leaf flunked-out of middle school. When she was in school she spent it in a haze of inattention and ‘lost’ homework. Otherwise, she played hooky, smoked, drank, and got in fights. Her resume was sixteen gym badges, a flawless defeat of the elite four, and a champion’s title. The skill set needed for running a successful meeting was not one she possessed. She was a good trainer but as one commenter brusquely put it: ‘she was not prepared for the politics of the role of champion.’ The longer she stayed on this mountain the more she was certain of it.
Wasn’t that her life. She can’t do that and she can’t do this. It was impossible and she needed to give that idea up. Isn’t it cute that a little poor girl from Viridian things she can be champion? How many nights did Leaf reason and argue with herself, that it was time to give it up. It was time to go home. And how many times did Leaf took herself off that edge? Too many times to count.
Leaf’s toes tapped a tight pattern against the pavement as her jaw flexed and tightened. She spared Giovanni a side-eye, pinning him with a cold glare. Leaf scoffed, pulling the cigarette from her lips. A pet victory on him in her back pocket didn’t feel so satisfying now. She couldn’t fight her way into a smooth meeting and good press. Giovanni didn’t need to say anything to irk her into frustration-- the irony of the situation alone did the job.
“You’re losing good money, and here I thought you were a gambling man,” Leaf muttered to her hands. She took a last drag from the cigarette then ground it out against the bench arm. “Do you think I’m going to give up?”
It’s an ironic, rhetorical question and if Giovanni was smart he wouldn’t answer it. Fourteen-years-old picked fights with men like him if they were at least two things: stupid and stubborn. With a thin grin, she added vindictive to the list. She writ the vow of his defeat in her blood and sweat; And handed it to him with a set jaw and a furious gaze. With a pretty paycheck and her pride on the line, they’d have to throw Leaf off the mountain.
“It’s hilarious,” Leaf said. “They bitch about my middle-school report card and you spent twenty years the boss of Team Rocket, right under their nose.”

YOUR DOSE OF COMPLIMENTS || Accepting (but slow)for every ‘@’ sent (anon or not) I WILL mention and post some positivity about a fellow tumblr user
NOTE: feel free to reblog from me since the source isn’t a meme blog
Duke has prescribed @leaf-fuguri a dose of compliments.
>>> AKA GO FOLLOW LEAF-FUGURI
Holy shit okay. Before I can compliment anyone I have to compliment my main gal Gina who I haven’t spoken to in months but OMG do I have to say please go follow her and just give her love. She runs this swell and dandy little blog with Leaf Fuguri, the female protagonist from FRLG (fire red and leaf green) and do I have to say she doesn’t disappoint.
She is an amazing writer who I feel honored to write. She has so much depth to Leaf and she’s just a doll to plot with, and man can I tell you how much we plotted. I created M as a blank slate with one thing in mind: a guy with six magikarps and that clearly intrigued Gina enough to contact me and start plotting. But BOI can I tell you were we surprised how much M and Leaf hit it off.
M has been influenced by Leaf so much that she’s probably the only person that M considers a friend (sorry everyone but there is so much between Leaf and M I feel bad saying it). But Leaf is a muse that just intrigues me and seeing how far Gina took Leaf with such little content she has in the game…ahhhhh.
Gina is a joy to talk with OOC let me tell you. Grade A plotting honestly. She has so many interesting verses that take just enough spin that you can have two different relationships all together. Honestly, it’s one of the things that I appreciate when talking with Gina. Seeing how the small changes in a muse’s past changes affect a relationship is something that I always try to be mindful of and does Gina deliver. Attentive and someone I can just throw random meme pictures at, Gina is just…just…amazing okay.
I can’t compliment Gina enough because I suck at compliments. But Gina is amazing.

M
: [ 🐟 ] : – “I swear if you weren’t L’s pokemon I would have…”
M growled as he shook Vaporeon just a little bit in frustration. Why did this vaporeon dislike him so much, or if he recalled, Vaporeon just was a little ball of sass.
“I think you need to train Vaporeon a little more in dropping the ball in fetch.”
“I don’t force my pokemon to do anything,” Leaf stated, hand falling to her hip. “You know it’s good to have a little bit of spirit in your pokemon. It allows them more freedom and honestly? It makes things more fun.” Still, Leaf quirked an eyebrow at Vaporeon, lips pursed, and arms crossed. Vaporeon opened her maw and the Magikarp flopped out to the ground.
“It’s more of an, extended partnership?”

Girl
Indigo Plateau? Champion? The words rang inside her head, bounding onto the walls of her mind in their frantic search for a sense while the girl continued to be dragged along. After what felt like some never-ending minutes, a faint memory shed a dim light of understanding to her words. It’s been announced that with the opening of the new Alolan Pokemon League that champions from overseas had been summoned to heed their advice. Was this so-called champion telling her the truth?
It could’ve well been the presence of the ninetales what convinced her. Annie had never seen one in person and up-close. A rare kind compared to the dazzling white-clouded that was known to inhabit the snowy mountains of the region. If she and her pokemon indeed had traveled over from Kanto, the chances of her being indeed the champion were more than likely.
More important than their provenance was the pokemon’s attitude toward the champion. Perhaps merely gesture of affection, but… To her judgment, if the ninetales loved its trainer in such a way, Annie was willing to believe the girl wasn’t one with an ill-intent.
“A-alright—” A noticeable change in her pace was proof on her decision to follow through with the Champion’s plan. Her speed picked up as resistance left her. “Let’s go… If it’ll be safer.”
Leaf sighed a breath of relief at the girl’s compliance. Dragging her to the pokemon center sounded harder than walking there.
“Alright, just try to keep up, okay?” Leaf said. “We’re going to have to go a little faster here.”
Threading into the crowd and vanishing would be child’s play if Leaf were alone. It was the oldest and most valuable skill she learned in Saffron, how to disappear. With the other girl, who didn’t move as elegant or hadn’t the confidence for the task, that remained impossible. Hopefully, Leaf could tuck her away while she circled around and dealt personally with the problem.
Leaf tugged on Annie’s arm, dragging her hard to the left down a side street. It was narrower and quieter, fewer people but a short cut nonetheless. They sped walk to the end of the street, hung a quick right and here Leaf slowed them, blending back into a crowd of pedestrians. Their main tale was gone, a quick half-glance over the shoulder confirmed that. Finally, Leaf pulled them into the pokemon center.
“See, not so bad right? Now we just gotta wait a little while.”

Send “🗡” to ask my muse about one of their scars. || Accepting
: [ 🐟 ] : – “I somethings think that you forget that I was a Rocket, L. We were no strangers to guns and stuff. We all have a few wounds here and there. Knives, guns, whips, etcetera.”
An excuse he always gave, one of the many things he would try to avoid talking about. The gunshot wounds clearly weren’t treated, they had healed by themselves. Same with the other scars that clearly weren’t from just his fishing career. Sure, he’d admit the others weren’t exactly fish related, but this one…this one he kept to the same old story. But he knew that Leaf could see through his lies. That there weren’t just some simple bullet wounds. They carried weight to them, and oh boy did they. He let out a sigh…
“I promise ya, it’s nothing more than being at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Dad
He leaves the table and all the violence and destruction that’d been wrought in a single moment. Where a mortal man’s failure lies, soon to be swallowed by silence and dust. Bards and poets might lament on what had been lost, they might write of the fire and blood and the clattering of swords against shields. Or perhaps more likely, all this suffering and loss will be forgotten, becoming a faded memory in which only one young goddess might recall. She has a soft heart for these heroes, defiers of the gods and the laws placed upon them for the sake of order. She might recoil and chafe against his word, but in the end, she is very much her father’s daughter. She might care, but these mortal men and women are still nothing but pieces spread across the great game they both play across time.
“I know very well what the mortal world is like, Little Bird.” He steps beyond the white curtains fluttering against a gentle breeze and onto a marble balcony. The first stars of the night already glitter against a darkening sky, but there remains enough light that he can still discern the world stretching far below. He thinks he can almost see smoke billowing in the distance and the orange bright glow of fire against the horizon.
“I spent my time on Earth, marveled at it’s many wonders. I walked beyond the very reaches of the oceans, from North to South and East to West. Turned over all the rocks and peered into all the nooks and crannies of the world. There wasn’t much I didn’t poke at when I was young.” It’d been ages and ages ago, when the world had still been young and new and the first of humanity were still cave dwellers learning to harness fire. “Time passes, but very little has changed.”
Leaf huffed hot air out her nose, lips pursed and still more displeased. There it was, that’s what she remembered, dismissive cold shoulders and the old apathy. She had to come home to be reminded. Leaf was born amongst the leaves and earthen dirt. The story went that millennia ago a god walked the world and found a child goddess tucked away in the boughs of untamed wilderness. Born from pale moonlight and just like the great celestial body, her face was ever turned towards the mortal coil. The stories said she refused her birthright, fled into the night and now hid in the shadows, eating unwanted babies.
That was the romanticization, most of the poets skipped over all the petty teenage arguments.
For an umpteenth time Leaf wondered why she had to come home to be reminded. But then again, these hallowed halls were never her home. Therein remained the difference between Leaf and her father. He visited Earth but she was born there. Leaf straightened and leaned back against the table, literally sitting on the edge of fate. She looked where her father watched over the burning world, impassive as any stone. A little girl once had the impetus to try to make him budge, even an inch. Come see Earth with me Dad! If only he saw what she knew. Of course, she shared one thing with her father: stubbornness.
“Have you ever considered that’s because you don’t change?”

M
: [ 🐟 ] : – “Oh come on, a little gamble is a lotta fun. But if you insist, I don’t mind drinking with an old friend.”
M nodded as he let his thumb rub against her hip, it was a sort of comfort. After all, it’s been quite a while since they’ve seen each other. Old friends. A lot of history. Two different paths.
“But if you’re going to ever descent into insanity, you better invite me. You know fully well how much that is my domain L.”
A small whine, after all he enjoyed the chaos. Even if it was just a small little spat…he did bring trouble where ever he went. But with that thought, he pulled away and offered his arm.
“You know a good place, or are we gonna wander around?”
Leaf pulled from M but kept her hand caught in his suit’s lapel. Her fingers ran over the smooth fabric as she mentally mapped out the near city. It had been a couple months since she last went drinking. She and her coworkers from the league shared a drink every so often in a pub in Viridian. That was different from M would want. M was right, she no longer got into as much trouble as she used to.
“I know a place,” she said, she tugged on his jacket to pull him with her as she started down the street. “It’s not far and should be quiet enough to talk, if you're alright with hanging out with boring old me.”

"please open the door. Annie), i can see your shadow moving around."
spider-man: into the spider-verse | accepting
@leaf-fuguri
One foot stopped at the window’s stool. The aforementioned shadow adopted a similar, immovable stance. The quimera let out a low warning-growl to the voice from the other side of the door; while his trainer remained half-way to her escape and retained only by her own hesitation. Clearly, Annie hadn’t expected any visits– Especially not from the Kantonian Champion.
The little space that occupied her apartment had been thoroughly cleaned and all that was indispensable had been tucked into the backpack the young woman carried on her back. Had Leaf or anyone else entered the room, it would have been obvious to them that Annie wasn’t planning on staying much longer.
Given her current position as she climbed out from the back window, her getaway wasn’t something she planned to publicly announce either.
Would she happened to give on temptation and open the door to receive Leaf in… Would the champion dissuade her from leaving? Would she keep her from doing so, alerting those in charge of watching over her of her failed attempt? From Annie’s perspective, that wasn’t anything like what Leaf would do. However, she didn’t trust herself to be able to leave if she opened that door and greeted her friend in, in her usual carefree and easy-going way.
Things couldn’t stay the same way. There was no going back. For now.
Annie heaved a silent sigh and signaled her pokémon to step back from the door. Aurel complied, soon after returning willingly into his pokéball on his trainer’s hand. With no more shadows to be waiting for Leaf, she climbed out from the window and away from her home.
And friend.
