The Chase of Eaqitus - Looking for Beta-Readers!

It was once said that after the reigning blood monarch dies, whomever they chose will ascend to the throne. It wouldn’t matter of age or gender, or if the late monarch’s spouse was still alive, they would go on to rule the Kingdom of Eaqitus. What wasn’t said, however, what to do if no one was chosen.

The Chase of Eaqitus is a story set in 1390, in the fictional city of Eaqitus. King Ulric II has died without a plan on succession, so his widow, Queen Maria, has decided to allow her eight children to come from their individual provinces and prove their worthiness to the crown. Schemes, drama and blood ensue and the goal quickly becomes to outlive their opponents rather than outperform.

Headcanons are statistically my most popular posts overall, and that makes me kinda sad cause I feel like it’s the same throughout the whole rdr fandom and a lot of other fandoms.

Not to bash headcanons - we all love a good headcanon - but it takes a lot more time and talent to write one-shots and fanfics than it does to write a headcanon (for the most part), and one-shots and fanfics usually get the least notes.

Writing is such an underappreciated art form and a lot of us on here commission one-shots and fanfics for free!! So next time a one-shot or fanfic pops up on your dash that you like, please reblog it instead of just liking it or scrolling mindlessly past!! It really means a lot to us writers!!

I’m posting again!

Just thought that I’d let y’all know that most of my writing will now be over at my WorldAnvil page and I will probably be transferring my writing over here every so often but I’m hoping that next year I can start with character spotlights or showcasing my worldbuilding more.

Cats Always Hunt Alone - a catradora angst fic. trigger warning for suicidal ideation, implied self harm

This takes place inbetween episode 11 and 12, when Catra has returned to the Fright Zone. She does not know that Adora survived when Catra cut the spider goop holding her to the cliff. Catra thinks Adora is dead.

Adora. The name rang out in Catra’s brain, scratching at her skull like claws. It taunted her.

She sat on her creaky bunk bed, weary head in her hands. Where was Shadow Weaver? She should be here by now, inquiring why Catra was late for battle practice this morning. Then again, Shadow Weaver had her own problems to attend to. Catra didn’t blame her. She knew what it was like, to be dismissed from your own achievements.

Catra remembered. The memories burned her heart, set it ablaze. She remembered playing tag with Adora, remembered laughing together at Kyle’s miserable attempts at fighting, remembered…their first kiss. The pain shot through her entire body as she thought of Adora’s lips on hers. When they were just fourteen, and the world was merely a setting for them to play in. When they had each other and needed nobody else.

A single tear streams down Catra’s face, but instead of wiping at it, she scratches it with her claws. There is something relieving about the pain. It’s what she deserves for being a murderer.

And suddenly, her mind goes back to yesterday, when Adora was hanging off the edge by a single green thread, and how Catra had - no. No. She couldn’t have.

But she did.

She had betrayed her. She has watched her suffer, watched the tears fill her eyes, watched her fingers slip off the ledge. Oh, and how did Catra wish to be in Adora’s place right now! How calm must it be, she dreamt, to be forever in unconscious bliss, to be released from the pain and problems of this world! One second of pain, and it would all be over, wouldn’t it?

Catra traces the newly formed cut on her face with her jagged claw. What will Shadow Weaver say? Then again, Catra doesn’t care about Shadow Weaver anymore.

She must be strong. That’s what a true Horde leader would be like. Strong, ruthless and callous - wait. She already acted like the latter two. Catra was just missing strength. She had never had enough of it. She was always a failure in the Horde’s eyes.

The truth is, she hates it here. The constant struggle for power, the hunger for it. She knows the way the Horde pillages towns and sucks away the life sources of kingdoms for power. She knows what it’s like, to not have enough of it. You can never have enough of it. Catra never got enough of it with Adora around.

But now Adora was gone….and Catra still felt no more powerful than before. Instead, she felt guilt. A quality which is best kept hidden in a Horde soldier - along with love, trust, or weakness. A Horde soldier must only lust for power. Yet Catra felt none of it.

Run away? Rebel? Impossible. She had destroyed, no, murdered She-Ra, she has killed the only friend she had ever had. No rebellion would take her in.

Stay with the Horde? She will forever be devalued, living in the shadow of Adora’s everlasting presence hanging over her like a storm cloud. Shadow Weaver will dispose of her: with Adora lost, she is no longer useful to the system. Catra will be stuck with Kyle and Lonnie, forever to clean the latrines.

No man’s land. That is where Catra is stuck, with no-one to confide in. On her own, like she was destined to be. It’s no wonder that cats always hunt alone.

She stares at her clammy hands. Hot, salty tears roll down her face, stinging her cut. Catra stands. Inside her locker lays her precious laser gun.

Inside her mind, Adora is egging her on. She wants to be with her. All Catra wants is for things to be like they were, but there is no way to turn back time. There is a way to stop time, however. At least for yourself.

Adora. The name tastes like a rushed, forbidden kiss, smells like the sizzling fire in a princess’ eyes, feels like tears in an open cut. Adora, who is gone forever. Gone by Catra’s hand. And that is how Catra will go.

Her tears have stopped. She is not afraid. The deadly weapon in her hands feels more like a magic wand that will teleport her home, finally home into Adora’s arms. Where she will be forgiven and melt into the fabric of time. Catra craves to leave this world with all her worn-out soul. It just takes one flick of a switch…

“Catra!” yelps an excited voice from around the corner. “Look what I can do with the First Ones tech!”

Catra puts down her gun. Entrapta looks her in the eyes and beams. “Look what cool stuff it did to Emily!”

Adora. The name rang out in Catra’s brain, scratching at her skull like claws. It taunted her. But she will not reunite with her today, thought Catra. Someday soon, though.

My Personal Character Files: The 6 Box Method

This is for my science fiction WIP, so some things may need to be added/modified depending on your genre. I will also include a screenshot of an example at the bottom so y’all can see how I set it up in my Doc.

1. The Quick Ref

I use this as the first page of my “Character FIles” Doc.

I put all my important characters in a list, then add their height, age, and the page their complete file can be found on. This is helpful when I need to know if a character would have to crane their neck upward to look another character in the eyes. Comes up more than I’d have guessed.

2. The Individual Profile: 6 Box Method

I add and subtract stuff based on how important the character is. Without further ado…

I think that all ideas here are really good and perhaps competitions might be able to happen easier and people can submit their entries to a certain email or something.

IMPORTANT!!! QUESTIONS FOR ALL WRITEBLR CONNECTS FOLLOWERS/MEMBERS

All right folks, for the first time, instability in Tumblr’s site is making me antsy. 

Now, before I discuss anything else, let me say this: 

WRITEBLR CONNECTS IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE. 

I repeat: nothing is changing right now. I do not have any plans to make any platform changes in the near or not-so-near future. As far as I know, current changes should not affect WC. I have also backed all current data up, so I do have all member profiles etc. saved should something happen.

HOWEVER

With everything that is going on (i.e. concerns that posts with links are being blocked from searches, app store issues etc.), I would like to have an alternative/backup available. 

IF WC STARTED ITS OWN WEBSITE, TWO QUESTIONS: 

Would you be willing to sign up for a email mailing list dedicated to progress on a WC website?

What features would you guys like to see in a site?

Some ideas:

Automatic profile submission forms

Pages dedicated to featured writing from members

A monthly email newsletter highlighting new members

A “store” with links to member books on Amazon etc.

Database of current WIP projects that can be automatically updated by members

Right now, this is in a completely nebulous phase. Starting a full website would likely require some form of crowd-funding campaign to cover hosting costs, time required to build it, etc (which, besides a lack of ability to integrate some of these features with Tumblr’s framework, is why I haven’t added any of the above features to WC’s current site). But, I want your opinions well in advance of the need for an external site to prevent a scramble and community downtime should a change become necessary.
