a fun thing you can say in spanish when someone sneezes more than once is, after you’ve said salud (literally means “health” ≈ bless you), go and say dinero (money) and amor (love) for the second and third time, and you will have wished them all the best

weird study tip:
if u don’t feel motivated, pretend ur in a movie or tv show. you know the scenes where they’re on their bed with their feet tucked up and crossed at the ankle, and they’re cracking open highlighters with their teeth and poring over a textbook with smooth rock music playing? that. bonus points for a perfect messy bun and spencer hastings outfit.

Spanish is lawful evil. Hazme cambiar de opinion.
I dunno, I kind of agree.
Spanish is easily the most phonetic language and goes out of its way to make spelling choices so people can pronounce it correctly if you know Spanish phonemes.
That is, until you get to a verb like abolir or roer and then everything is bonkers

I love discovering etymological links between languages, like today I was talking to someone about how a circumflex in French indicates a lost s after the vowel and they were like “so même used to be mesme then?” And I was like “WAAAAH THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE BECAUSE IT’S MISMO IN SPANISH THIS IS SO EXCITING” and this is probably why I don’t have friends

Dear language enthusiasts, here is your daily reminder not to force yourself into language learning. There are some days where you will be a bit tired or lazy and will have to force yourself to do your daily lesson, of course ; but I am not talking about that. If you are experiencing a long-term feeling of demotivation about your language learning, or your target language : don’t force yourself. This is an unproductive thing to do because enjoying what you’re learning makes it so much easier and efficient. Take a break. Refocus on your learning. Why are you learning this language for ? Do you actually enjoy it ? Have you ever ? This is not called failure. It is part of the process called language learning (or any learning at all). It can also be a form of self care since forcing oneself to do things one doesn’t even have to do can be mentally difficult. Finally, remember that motivation is one of the most important key to language learning. Find it back before going back to your learning. Don’t stress yourself over your learning ; take your time, because you will reach your goals. We’re all different and we don’t take the same amount of time and energy to reach the same goals. Being slower, taking a break, interrogating your motivations and goals do not make you bad at your target language, or a looser. Take care !

tips for learning your target language through listening to music:
always play your music either out loud of on low volume with your earphones in the point is to hear yourself when you’re singing along, this way you can hear both yourself and the words to the song, this allows you to focus on getting the pronunciation.
don’t shy away from singing without music to yourself but again the keep is to sing out loud you’ll find you’re more than capable of correcting your own mistakes (especially if you listen to
slow down songs if they’re too fast on youtube you can slow videos down by going on the videos setting at the bottom, slow down the video if you’re unable to catch what is being sung.
when you’re super confident test yourself using the karaoke version of the song of your choice.

Arabismos in Spanish.
Hey, I thought I should make a list of “arabismos” we use in Spanish during our every day conversations. If you don’t know what an arabismo is, it is a word derived from Arabic. This week an academician of the Real Academia Española confirmed that in Spanish we only have around 2000 of these words (if we don’t count the names of places and rivers), and I want to share it with you, but keep in mind that these don’t derive from classical arabic, but from the local dialect spoken in al-Ándalus, so I’ll post the spanish, the hispanic-arabic dialect pronunciation, and in cursive the classical version if I find it and viceversa.

Escabeche (marinade) - assukkabáǧ - sikbāǧ (from Persian sekbā)
