Hand-Printed Invitation on Hand-Made Papers
Another hardworking day for team ‘無來由之葉’ - look what we have achieved out of an intensive few days of paper-making and printing... They are just so wonderful. A lot more than we had imagined.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
According to our team leader / TFRI research assistant Keting Kurt Chen, the paper pulp we used this time consists of 50% Ganpi (雁皮, Diplomorpha sikokiana) and 50% Kajinoki (梶, Broussonetia papyrifera, also known as paper mulberry).  In this project we try to explore the idea around origin or identity by giving the title ‘根も葉も無い‘ (無來由之葉, without roots or leaves). But because of this special invitations which contain different pulps and fibres from trees, it seems that our conceptual approach would make a nice contrast with the physicality of plants. We will start distributing these invitations in due course.... And again, our sincere and warmest thanks go to: Yasunori Kawamatsu and Nobuyuki Yamamoto, Keting Kurt Chen, Yu Hua Chen, Tzuyu Li, 羅伃君, 楊雅敏, Taiwan Forestry Research Institute staff, and Handmade Paper and Paper Restoration Lab (手工造紙暨紙質維護實驗室). Paper Making Trial
We are planning to make hand-made papers in collaboration with Handmade Paper and Paper Restoration Lab in Taiwan Forestry Research Institute for a special version of our exhibition invitation cards. (Rather ambitious, eh!) The researcher/artist Kurt Chen from TFRI together with Nanmoncho 323 curator Yu Hua Chen had a go to get a sense of paper-making today - and here are some shots of their trial. Participating artists Yasunori and Nobuyuki will visit Taipei next week to join Kurt and Una to produce a batch of papers. A report will follow shortly!

Taipei site-visit
From 28 April to 2 May 2016, curator Naoko Mabon paid a visit to Taipei to develop the project. Whilst there, she mainly visited the exhibition venue Nanmoncho 323 within Taipei Botanical Garden and Taiwan Forestry Research Institute to meet the key contacts to discuss further the idea around the exhibition.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello handsome Nanmoncho 323 and its Japanese Garden, at last! At Nanmoncho 323, manager Una, artist/farmer Lun and his wife 小紅 were busy installing for their new exhibition ‘種子野台 <人藏夢‧夢藏種‧種藏人> 序篇’.
Tumblr media
At Taiwan Forestry Research Institute, through the kind introduction from the artist I-Chern Lai, she met the researcher/artist Kurt Chen and the Shyu Jiann-Gwo先生 from the Wood Cellulose Division to discuss together how we can possibly feature what the Institute researches, and their beautiful hand-made papers, within this project.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shyu Jiann-Gwo先生 kindly showed us around the Institute’s paper factory and the papers he made entirely by his own hands (!!)
We look forward to updating more on our development over time!
