♔ As the youngest child in the family, Jonathan was afforded luxuries his older brother and sister were not, namely that of a little more freedom to choose just what it was he would do with his life. Where his older brother would eventually inherit and thus take charge of the family estate and the Earldom of Orford and his sister would be married into a family that would undoubtedly elevate the Hawtrey’s station further, Jonathan’s only real task was to maintain the family’s reputation.

♔ This was something it turned out he was not entirely equipped to do – and nor did he have much interest in the pursuit. The freedom of choice was something of a disguise because, as an unruly and somewhat rebellious twenty-something who’d found joy in being only a semi-efficient merchant, he was given an ultimatum; become an esteemed member of the clergy, a justice of the peace or member of parliament, or find himself a second home among the ranks of the military. Having no taste for the life of a clergyman, a keen interest in the law but not quite the correct temperament for the magistrates’ court nor the house of commons but a love for the sea and travel, Jonathan chose the military. The Navy, in particular for reasons that surprised no-one.

♔ Having always been restless and unable to settle, life in the Navy suited him perfectly, with little or few opportunities for idleness; except in the form of a night or two spent in taverns abroad charming women of any and all station ( and perhaps one or two men, on the quiet. ) As it turned out, passion and enjoyment in one’s profession often leads to a job well done, and perhaps even a promotion to Captain. It was really only when Jack reached the rank of Captain after numerous years of service that he came to see it as his occupation, rather than merely something to appease his parents until they were no longer invested in keeping tabs on him. 

♔ For most of his life, Jonathan’s main priority was work and he had little to no interest in finding a wife or starting a family such a thought is a more recent development – somewhat unexpectedly, he’s found himself maturing just slightly and particularly after the rather sudden removal of himself from the American conflict due to injury. It has been, if nothing, else a reminder that the world exists outside of ships and battle.

♔ Jonathan’s fairly sure his stint in London and among the Ton will be a short one, for he’s never been much of a fan of the pomp and formality of gatherings and desires to return quickly to his station, even if he and many others have become disillusioned with the cause. For the moment there’s enough excitement bubbling around, people to flirt with and injuries to recover from to warrant a stay on solid ground.

♔ The story starts with a tragic beginning; born the last, Lorelei never truly fond the strength to forgive her siblings for that. They all got the chance to meet their parents, but she was deprived of that privilege, deprived of even having a memory of them. As a child, Lorelei had oftentimes been the loudest one in the room, the spoiled young rebel who was always trying to find affection and attention in all the wrong places. She was the black sheep of the family and not just because of her dark hair. But the lack of resemble to the rest of her flaxen-haired siblings had prompted quite a few vicious rumors along the way. Some called her a bastard, others used even worse names, but still Lorelei knew the truth. She was a Vaughan, despite her hidden wishes.

♔ However, as she kept growing, she learned that silence and secrecy were far more better weapons than desperate outcries. She became a master at lying, scheming and deceiving, a cruel and bitter young lady with an unexplained hollowness inside of her chest. She had crafted a perfect mask of politeness and charm, but underneath it all, she was falling apart. Rotting deep inside.

♔ Charming but disobedient, many are blinded by Lorelei’s smiles and pretty words. But the truth will always be there, hidden in plain sight. Despite her envy, Lorelei doesn’t loathe her siblings. They are actually the only people that she can trust. But still, she doesn’t want to let them tame her. She’ll never belong to them fully, she’ll always be a desperate and wounded beast that doesn’t know how to accept love. When it comes to marriage, Lorelei is currently engaged, but she has no plans of ever marrying the poor fool.
