A note to Gen Xers and above
Did you ever stop to think that maybe YOU'RE the reason why most of us are fucked up? I'm getting sick and tired of people saying that we are irresponsible, have no work ethic, etc. etc. Who the fucked raised us? We weren't born and raised by aliens. We had to get our ethics and values somewhere, and guess who we got it from. YOU. Our parents. You guys waited on us hand and food and wonder why we struggle to get on on our own. You thought you were doing a world of good how you raised us, and now that it's blown back the fuck up in your face, you wonder why we are the way we are.
A lot of you are shocked that so many of us have depression, anxiety, and mental illness. Maybe the reason is because you guys have such fucked up values of how we should look and act. More people around the age of 50 are getting face lifts and plastic surgery to look younger, and wonder why so many younger people have eating disorders. You constantly say that we should look a certain way but yet you consistently change your appearance because you don't want to look old.
Growing up back then and growing up now are two completely different monsters. We have to face a barrage of media attention geared to how we should be and wonder why the fuck so many of us hate ourselves. I've heard a lot of baby boomers say that the norm back then was getting married out of high school. Sorry that not a lot of us want that. The fact that I'm turning 26 in a month and many older people say that I should start to have babies or they'll come out having birth defects make me sick. Just because I didn't get knocked up at 21 doesn't mean shit. It means that I recognize that I can't take care of another human being and I'm not going to put a child through what I've been through.
You guys were also the generation where you experimented with discipline. It's not like 1980 was the magical year that every baby born after that has discipline problems. We were your responsibility for the greater part of our youths. I'm not saying that every child that has a discipline problem is the result of your parenting, but the majority is.
You guys consistently say that we need to own up to our own behavior, but maybe you should take your own advice
