I’ve literally heard the most ridiculous comeback today.
“No one wants Lando to be World Champion because no one likes him”.
Firstly if no one likes him why do we see Lando fans in huge numbers at every Grand Prix.
Secondly, you honestly think there is a single F1 World Champion that people didn’t hate?
I hated Schumacher, Alonso, people hated Villeneuve. Virtually everyone and their unborn child hated Seb. Lewis has equal parts lovers and haters and Max haters are having a field day atm.
As comebacks go, that has to be top 5 things NOT to say.
Sorry @f1-birb This response does not deserve to hide in the comments as the last paragraph is a killer.

Mcl’s Instagram right now is giving major “oops, didn’t mean to get caught” energy. Suddenly it's all Lando pics and joint driver posts like they didn’t post a picture with a McDonald's advert to blocking him out of view. The scramble is laughable—like watching someone try to shove spilled glitter back into a bottle.
And the comments? Glorious. My personal highlights include:
“I love this damage control mission y’all are on now”
“Not Admin trying to cover up”
“Scared to post PRstri alone now?”
“Hey, you guys accidentally added a picture of Lando to this one”
“This damage control is crazy. You have picked the wrong fanbase to do these gimmicks to.”
Nothing hits like papaya panic posts filled with comments about the driver whose daddy isn't paying everyone off.

I saw someone say something along these lines earlier, maybe on here or maybe on Twitter, but I can't find the original source.
When it comes to Lando, he has been so loudly criticized for being open about his mental health, and yet he continues to do it. He knows that when he does it, it'll be a talking point, it will be something people latch onto to hate him. But he talks about how others have told him that it helped them when they heard him speak. And so he continues to do it anyway. Knowing the hate will come.
That's strength. That's a champion's mentality.

f1 aside, never let the word of these pathetic old men deter you from opening up about your mental health struggles. no matter what you’re dealing with, asking for help is never a sign of weakness, in fact it is one of the most strong willed steps you could make in the right direction. reach out when you feel like you need to. you’re never alone.

Funny how Oscar and his race engineer can point out the "luck" of the safety car timing and get praise instead of literal death threats spammed to them like Norris got after Brazil too.

According to gpblog, andrea stella said:
"Lando Norris made numerous mistakes whilst at the wheel of the dominant car in the championship, which isn't up to par with Norris' talent." "I see very much of a responsibility of the team in terms of improving the situation," appointing the responsibility of the shunt to mclaren itself. "What's important from Lando's side is that in the meantime, while we don't improve it, he maintains the confidence and he maintains an availability to adapt."
So the takeaways are:
Lando is outperforming the car. He is actually better than what we are seeing right now. Better than leading the championship, better than consistent podiums, better than breaking lap records.
mcl knows this.
mcl admits it's their fault.
mcl admits they’re not fixing it anytime soon, but Lando should just keep smiling until he figures out how to adapt (which needs to be soon, and confidently).
Cool. Great. Love that for us. Love that my favorite driver is dragging a car made out of bad decisions and false hope to the front of the grid through talent and a deep-seated need to outperform himself.
You cannot convince me he doesn’t deserve better. You will have to pry my defense of Lando Norris out of my cold, furious hands.

so no one finds it odd that the guy who was 20-4 down in qualifying last season, and, honestly, had no solid win that wasn't at the expense of his teammate... is now constantly winning races with a significant gap between him in first and the car in second? meanwhile the teammate who outperformed expectations in 2024, finished ahead, was p2 in the wdc standings and was the reason why mclaren really won that constructors, is struggling with the car (and still doing a damn great job at delivering)? no one is even sitting down to think 'that doesn't make any fucking sense' because it doesn't?
