Olivia Colman and John Lithgow head the cast of “Jimpa,” a multi-generational family tale involving a nonbinary teenager and her mother who take a trip to see their gay grandfather. The Australia- and Europe-set film is directed by Sophie Hyde, whose most recent film was the breakout “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande.”

“Hannah (Colman) takes her trans nonbinary teenager Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde) to Amsterdam, to visit their gay grandfather ‘Jimpa’ (Lithgow). But Frances’ desire to stay with Jimpa for a year abroad means Hannah is forced to reconsider her beliefs about parenting and finally confront old stories about the past,” reads a synopsis provided by the producers. The screenplay was written by Hyde and Matthew Cormack.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman are set to feud in Jay Roach’s remake of The War of the Roses.

The synopsis for the film reads, “Life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Theo (CUMBERBATCH) and Ivy (COLMAN): successful careers, great kids, an enviable sex life. But underneath the façade of the perfect family is a tinderbox of competition and resentments that’s ignited when Theo’s professional dreams come crashing down. Marital bliss erupts into a hilariously ferocious battle of wills in this dark comedy about love, power, and the lengths we’ll go to win.”

The film is shooting in the United Kingdom.

Searchlight Pictures has signed a first-look deal with Olivia Colman and Ed Sinclair’s South of the River Pictures. Under the new pact, the specialty studio, which has worked with Colman on “The Favourite” and “Empire of Light,” will develop and produce feature-length motion pictures with the production company.

“Olivia and Ed have been longtime friends of Searchlight, and we have always aspired to continue partnering with them,” said Matthew Greenfield, president of Searchlight Pictures. “This first look deal is only an obvious and affirmed manifestation of our enduring collaborations.”

Colman and Sinclair added, “After a long affair we’re delighted to be putting a ring on it with Searchlight, and are excited about the increased focus and resource this will allow us to bring to our evolving film slate”.
