“Mr. Ledger’s work will outlast the frenzy. But there should have been more. Instead of being preserved as a young star eclipsed in his prime, he should have had time to outgrow his early promise and become the strange, surprising, era-defining actor he always had the potential to be.”
Prince of Intensity With a Lightness of Touch: An Appraisal (Jan. 24, 2008) by A.O. Scott

Jake Gyllenhaal talking about working on Brokeback Mountain with Heath Ledger (Vanity Fair, 2022).
Link: https://youtu.be/-ukSPR9JShQ?t=528
Jake: “You know, the relationship, I think, between me and Heath when we were making this movie was something that was based on a profound love for a lot of people that we knew and were raised by in our lives. And a deep respect for their love and their relationship. I mean, one of the things I really remember about the process was after the movie came out. Heath never really wanting to make a joke even as, culturally, there were many jokes being made about the movie or poking fun at it and things like that. And his consummate devotion to how serious and important the relationship between these two characters was. It showed me how devoted he was as an actor and how devoted he was, and how we both were to the story and the movie. For us, the experience of the movie was a really deep and fun one. We spent three weeks shooting; waking up in the morning and making everyone coffee and then eating a little breakfast and walking to work. It’s a technique of moving making that I wish we did more of. Where we all just pow-wowed and lived together in a space.”
Jake: “There is a moment that I go back to a lot. Heath and I were at a Q&A at the Aero Theater in Los Angeles. And I remember us going to dinner while the movie was screening. And I remember us joking backstage and I remember us kind of coming onto stage in a sort of humorous mode, you know? Cause we were just having fun with each other. And we sat down; the lights came up and a man stood up. And the movie had been out for a week and a half. And he said, ‘I just wanna say, this is my eleventh time seeing this movie and I can’t stop watching it and I just wanna thank you all for making it.’ And I thought, ‘Eleven times in ten days.’ And I remember that wash of that over us. We were joking and we were poking fun at each other before we go on and then the realization of the profundity of this thing, washed over us. It happens constantly to this day. And it’s — I can’t really express how proud I am of it.”

John Caglione Jr. talking about working with Heath Ledger on The Dark Knight (2008)
John Caglione Jr.: “With Heath he was just an absolutely incredible loving person to be around every day, I’m not kidding you. I’ve never had the experience like that with an actor and I’ve worked with great actors, but there was a lot of love and caring going on in the trailer. Like when Heath would come in, in the morning, sometimes really early in the morning like five-thirty in the morning. The first thing he would do would be to hug everybody in the trailer. Give big bear hugs to everybody. All the makeup and hair people and all the actors sitting in the chair. And then we would do the makeup which takes about an hour and a half and [he would] work a full day— work a twelve hour day. I think he worked sixty days in the film. And no matter how banged up or bruised he was after a long day, we would take off the last drop of makeup and he would just hug everybody in the trailer before he left. And I’ve never seen anything like it. He’s just a great energy to be around. And uh— you know? We were all better off with that experience, I’ll tell you. Just a great feeling he set.”

nfajones (IG Story): HAL ❤️
“What up, people? Just though I’d check in. It’s been a little while. Strange times, hard times, and for some still beautiful times. Take away all the politics and madness, you know? The world is still a beautiful place. Sometimes you just got to get above the crowd and remember that there’s always peace and beauty about. Just breathe in, relax, appreciate the moment. I wish everybody well out there. Breathe in the air, relax, and be grateful for what we do have. Bless.”
