Magical winter lights

Houston's festival was founded in 2016 by Yusi An, whose family hails from Zigong, China, the site of the original Chinese lantern festival. The lanterns are assembled into vibrant neon displays that can reach dozens of feet tall. The delicate craft, whose technique dates back to ancient China, involves carefully constructing lanterns out of paper and other translucent materials in an enormous variety of shapes and sizes, ranging from blocks and towers to delicate flowers and jellyfish.
