I’m still p much on indefinite hiatus, but I did want to stop by to drop this prop design I did for my storytelling cohort @tricksterpale and their son Caspian. A lot of love went into making a unique design that represented as many facets of his character as possible.

Some half-dozen years before the story of Hope’s Legacy, an incident of mutiny aboard the Magpie’s Fortune nearly took Caspian’s life, and did result in a permanent injury to his left leg. He now requires a brace that immobilizes his ankle to be able to walk, and uses a cane for balance and to further offset his weight. However, in true pirate fashion, Cas preferred to make his new companion accessories bold and flashy, as he sees scars and such as a testament to a person’s strength and tenacity.

And, of course, the cane is multifunctional. Because what good is a cane that isn’t also a sword? Especially when so many formalities of commandership require “unarmed” diplomatic meetings. He’d sooner go naked than helpless, of course, and will not be stopped from loudly judging anyone who dares try to part him and his “simple walking aid”.

Caspian “Sunfire” Stratos! My pirate captain turned commander of the Pact for the fight against Zhaitan and Scarlet both. 

Redesigned his leg brace after figuring out precisely how that injury impacted his ability to walk. The cane itself doubles as his holosword with the wooden part being removable when the need arises.

Scar map and tattoo sleeve for my pirate captain, Cas. The larger, deeper scars are from a bundle shot fired at him from another ship. A situation he barely survived. Some bloodthirsty pirates trying to kill him and take his ship, a betrayal….it was a whole thing, maybe I’ll tell you guys about sometime. Anyways, he’s got a limp now because of how damaged his right calf was and his right arm is a bit weaker than his left.

Been gone for ages and one of the first things I come back is a goddamn meme. This is Archon Pydre, and yes, that’s strawberry milk.

Naeem’s been getting a lot of character development recently, so I figured I’d update his looks and the placement of his major scars. 

He is a second born who awoke from a sickly, damaged pod with an extremely weak connection to the Dream and antisocial personality disorder to boot. The others did their best to help him adapt and learn right from wrong, but it wasn’t long after this that he was taken captive by the Inquest. He was experimented upon brutally and horrifically for three weeks before he was ‘rescued’ by Cadeyrn and the raiding Nightmare Court. During Naeem’s recovery at Joy’s End, Cadeyrn coerced Naeem into turning to Nightmare. After this, Naeem became the Court’s top torturer, gifted at turning Dreamers to Nightmare using a powerful form of mesmer magic that twists the mind from within. However, Naeem, atypical in almost every way and unlike most Courtiers, grew bored of his work after 15 years of it. Through a series of unfortunate events, Naeem ultimately betrayed the Court in an unlikely and uncharacteristic act of altruism and self sacrifice. Naeem was taken back to Joy’s End where he was tortured for his betrayal, having his arm cut off in the process. However, the people he had previously saved came back to save him in turn. During the following days of the Court’s pursuit, him and his new “friends” wound up stuck in Elona due to accidental portal failure, and it was there that they settled into a new life. He picked up bounty hunting and tracking by trade and that’s what he did for the next 12 years…

Until the arrival of the Commander and his crew.

Recently got to do some subtle photo-manipulation to showcase a new point in Indi’s development in LWS5, right at the end of Shadow in the Ice.

While Tal’s out of commission, Indi and Aurene are both working in tandem to heal him and stand vigil until he comes to. They are both there a long while, and both worried, and so they chat… 

Aurene having seemingly inherited her mother’s telepathy would have no trouble understanding Indi, and would thus also be privy to her frustrations with how difficult it can be to try to be a part of plans when she can’t articulate well enough to be heard. Everyone at Still Waters Speaking kept asking if people’s voices were their own. Isn’t it time her voice was her own as well? 

Aurene remembers this feeling personally, and wants to help. And in exchange Indi can now be Aurene’s eyes and ears wherever her champion goes. Someone Aurene knows to care as deeply about him as she does, if not more. And who can relay more clearly to him and the others for her if anything new comes to light.

While we have a lot left that we’re still figuring out about how the Hope’s Legacy crew react and interact during the Icebrood Saga events, we do know Indi becomes a much bigger strategist from this moment out. She also gets to enjoy the adjustment period for those around her while many who had (sometimes unintentionally) written off “the girl who doesn’t say much” get to come to the rapid understanding of what a spitfire she truly is.  (Needless to say, she and Gaeren bond even more, and she quickly becomes exceedingly adept at making Tal blush) Additional note: She speaks with an Itzel accent! (Indi the chak-eating wild child belongs to @tricksterpale​)

I’m gonna use that lovely encouragement I got to just blabber about Denzel to be my OWN ask on an ask meme and just answer random questions in this meme and eventually probably others as the whim strikes me…

58: Is your character dorky or more athletic?

Absolute dork. Total nerd. Dweeb. There has not been a single day this kid has worked out.

8: Does your character hate anyone? Why?

He’s pretty bad at hating people, truth be told, especially at the beginning of his arc. He definitely has points where he finds hatred for particular people, for very very good reasons that you’ll understand in Oasis, but on the whole he tends to see the good in people more than they deserve.

6: What is your character’s sexual orientation?

Denzel is as gay as the day is long. And the day is at the North Pole. Lasting from March to September.

54: What is the saddest thing about your character’s life?

Listen, I could talk about some of what happens in Oasis here, but frankly? That he goes 14 years with two friends. Two honest to god interpersonal relationships. That he goes a full 2 years of that with 0 friends, fully isolating himself out of anxiety and fear and self-doubt and hypersensitivity, to the point where he starts building machines to keep him company in the place of people.

10. Would your character ever kill someone?

He tries at one point, but it’s about survival in that moment. He wouldn’t do so premeditatively, and isn’t really violent.

55: Would your character do the Ice Bucket Challenge?

Lierik would absolutely dare him, and he’d Marty McFly right into that like an idiot to not lose respect points. He’d be sure Lierik went through it too after though.

4: Does anyone have a crush on your character? Is your character aware of this?

Oh, absolutely. Not only one that’s revealed over the course of Oasis, but there’s even a town shopkeep that’s got a little infatuation. However, he’s about as oblivious as it gets. He can’t really comprehend the idea that someone would think of him romantically.
