if you want to actually start to end homelessness, you need to give homeless people unconditional homes, including when we use them to do drugs or sit around drinking. either housing is unconditional or it isn’t

someone sitting at home alone, an active alcoholic, squandering your charity, drinking all day is better situation than a street homeless alcoholic. someone using drugs in your charity house is better than them doing the same w no shelter

most of you would not like most street homeless people, I definitely don’t and didn’t when I was street homeless. for every one person who uses unconditional shelter to turn themselves around, someone else will do jack shit and very slowly, if ever, work through the issues that made them homeless, will maybe never be able to live independently. still better than street homelessness, still worth doing. ultimately either you believe that shelter should be universal or you don’t

homeless people actually can’t be rehabilitated if you want to end homelessness. we either affirm the right to shelter for the worst drunken, lying, filthy, cheating, self destructive homeless people that exist, genuinely irredeemable wankers, or we concede that shelter is not a right

*I am trans/queer, disabled & in need of financial aid after leaving an abusive situation.

My dad left me no choice but to call the cops on him & I hadl to leave home & pack up my whole life for the last 21 years in 30 minutes. I was forced to lock myself in a hot room with nothing to drink/food for 3 days prior to leaving, & then drove 30 hours through the same with two cats & just enough money to get there, with no sleep in weeks. My dad constantly screams & has a tendency to bang/throw/break things, & be violent; he beat my dog close to death, that I also had to leave behind without even getting to see the condition he was in. I suffered my whole life sacrificing everything to try & keep him content. Some of those things, but not limited to were: possessiveness; not being allowed to have friends or leave house, being forced to clean for a large family 24hrs a day on no sleep (due to noise/keeping me up on purpose) because no one else would, taking any money I made for myself, taking my car keys so I couldn't leave, having him take away my medications/saying I didn't need them while ignoring my pain, going through my phone/socials, generally having no privacy; getting me addicted to drugs, then forcefully taking them away & making me go through violent withdrawals that I'm lucky I survived, dealing with being called slurs & suffering his false delusions, & that hardly scratches the list. I am currently making $245 a month on assistance, which I will be cut off from as I have left my province. This is not enough to even pay for my monthly car bills. I currently do not have a secure place to stay & am with my sister who is also controlling & is saying I can't take my painkillers or leave her apartment. I currently do not have a specific goal, but I need desperate help fast while I try to find a job (despite not being in the physical/mental condition to do so). I would like to raise at least $3k & will update on anything I receive/my situation from there.
