Please be aware that the "opt-out" choice is just a way to try to appease people. But Tumblr has not been transparent about when has data been sold and shared with AI companies, and there are sources that confirm that data has already been shared before the toggle was even provided to users.

Also, it seems to include data they should not have been able to give under any circumstance, including that of deactivated blogs, private messages and conversations, stuff from private blogs, and so on.

Do not believe that "AI companies will honor the "opt-out request retroactively". Once they've got their hands on your data (and they have), they won't be "honoring" an opt-out option retroactively. There is no way to confirm or deny what data do they have: The fact they are completely opaque on what do they currently "own" and have, means that they can do whatever they want with it. How can you prove they have your data if they don't give everyone free access to see what they've stolen already?

So, yeah, opt out of data sharing, but be aware that this isn't stopping anyone from taking your data. They already have been taking it, before you were given that option. Go and go to Tumblr's Suppport and leave your Feedback on this (politely, but firmly- not everyone in the company is responsible for this.)

Finally: Opt out is not good under any circumstance. Deactivated people can't opt out. People who have lost their passwords can't opt out. People who can't access internet or computers can't opt out. People who had their content reposted can't opt out. Dead people can't opt out. When DeviantArt released their AI image generator, saying that it wasn't trained on people who didn't consent to it, it was proven it could easily replicate the styles of people who had passed away, as seen here. So, yeah. AI companies cannot be trusted to have any sort of respect for people's data and content, because this entire thing is just a data laundering scheme.

My take on Cielo. The journey I went through with this drawing was amazing! It took 3 months, the longest I’ve ever taken on one, yet somehow it didn’t feel that long. At some point, I forgot I started in October and misremembered it as November. Originally, I intended to finish it by the end of December, but eventually decided to just take my time with it. It was a huge challenge for me, and I’m so glad I had the patience to take it on. When I first thought up the concept, I went rushing to my sketchbook in a minute. Normally I take longer to visualize ideas before sketching them, but not in this case.

The initial pose was too stiff, so I asked a friend to help me fix it. It turned out most of the drawing would need to be restarted except for Cielo’s hair, but that didn’t scare me. The same thing happened with my Raidou piece from 2022, except in that case, I had started all over from scratch. I asked for his input on the clouds & rain as well. I’m grateful for his assistance with bringing this to fruition! It definitely wouldn’t have come out the same otherwise.

To be honest, I’m a little underwhelmed with my artistic output this year. This isn’t to say I thought any of it was bad. I just wish I could’ve been bolder more often, like I was with the Flynn official art redraw. I started off with a bang and got art blocked until recently. For much of 2023, I felt stuck processing the many sharp ups and downs of the year before, which affected my creativity. I initially aimed to finish my Cielo WIP by New Year’s Day to end the year strong, but I still have too much to go. I’m okay with that though since I’ve absolutely enjoyed the process!

The Flynn piece is my favorite work from this year. It’s very different compared to any of my other drawings — when else do I draw landscapes? It was a nice challenge as well, which I’m always up for. Starting with Cielo, I want to carry this ambition into 2024. I hope to improve at posing, a weak point of mine, and come up with complex concepts more. I’m also excited to play DDS 2 and the PS1 version of SMT 1. Hopefully, I will create some artworks based on these games. Happy 2024!

I love your art style! I’ve been keeping up with your work since the Promare days, and I was pleasantly surprised when you began posting SMT art. Btw if you ever drew Serph, I think I would pass out (but you don’t have to)

thank you so much!! i sketched some of the dds cast back when i played the games but that was around when my prev laptop shat itself so i lost it with a few other sketches (i back up my stuff at least weekly so i'd just lost the weeks drawings and thankfully retained most everything important) but this survived:

I like that I got to draw a character way out of my comfort zone. 75% of my drawing process was probably just on his coat, as expected. I haven't played a TWEWY game, but I've added both to my ever growing backlog!
