I’ve been watching a Demetri Martin’s special and it occurred to me that Billy could have been the only person to successfully blow a French kiss to another person

Sign ups for the Harringrove Holiday Exchange 2018 are officially open!
— A special Harringrove-specific event for Stranger Things fans! Please be sure to read the entire FAQ before signing up!
The Short of It:
What is a holiday exchange? A holiday exchange is a Secret Santa-style gift exchange. You will be assigned someone to make a gift for and, in return, someone is assigned to make a gift for you. Along with some basic information, you will submit a Dear Creator Letter with your application entailing a few requests from your assigned creator.
What fanworks are accepted? As of now, fanfic and art are the only accepted fanworks. If you want to participate but want to make something else, please message this account.
Do the fanworks have to be holiday themed? Nope! The gifts have no set theme.
When will assignments be distributed? By October 14th.
Why are sign ups happening now? Everyone creates at a different pace, and the winter holidays often mean people are busier than usual. Two months is hopefully adequate time for everyone to complete their gifts.
When will sign ups close? October 7th.

Powerplay is a slippery road to go in harringrove bc you can either hurt one of the boys even more or make a complete monster out of the other.
But I just imagine Steve being hurt and broken by the abandonment, shaken by the wildness of everything and everybody around him that he needs a psychological anchor to function in a relationship.
And when Billy makes his advances maybe at another keg party or whatever, Steve half-jokingly says that he’s no tamer and Billy is too wild, he definitely needs a collar and domestication (we all know that both of them need much more than that but other good things are supposed to come afterwards, slow burn is the key word for harringrove amirite)
Surprisingly Billy is all like CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. He’s pretty kinky obv and not the one to back off when it comes to something/someone he wants, and so the journey of healing begins.
Manic Monday headcanons, don’t mind me

Harringrove is my safe space, and I don’t even know how that works but it works, my boys are getting me through some dark stuff these days.
Well, not the boys.
The fandom.
I love how the fandom lifts Billy up, gives him the redemption and the love he’d need. How the fandom feels for Steve and gives him the loyal heart to love. How the fandom unbreaks them both.
My true otp has become everything I need to pull through my anxiety thanks to the great creative people of the Harringrove fandom.
You are loved and appreciated, I’m grateful you exist and get inspired ❤️

Steve being all quiet about everything and anything that worries him to the point of falling apart bc “no one cares, I shouldn’t bother ppl with my unimportant shit” and Billy getting him to talk about what bothers him by being pushy but gentle and loving, making him realize he’s cared for and adored is my aesthetic.

I just love talking about mah boiz
I got hit yet again. I’m still trying to understand why I like Billy so much, must be smth Freudian, I guess.
I was thinking about all this harringrove situation which is totally impossible for the canon in my view bc 1) like how do you even start a gay plot line set in a small town in the 80s in a horror series about another dimension and human experiments? Pity as it is, sounds really extra to me, so AO3 authors, you’re my heroes, you give me LIFE 2) Steve is so obviously not over Nancy, and don’t even get me started on mrs Wheeler, gross
ANYWAY
I’m all for any kind of productive relationship between Billy and Steve, and friendship and teaming up is what I see coming (yeah, unless either or both of them gets killed off, that is).
And here’s why.
1) I still see Billy as a smart nerdy lonely cocky boy with zero emotional intellect, but good understanding of what responsibility is (thanks Neil oh wait no, not really, in fact, fuck you, NEIL). He totally has his standarts in terms of people who he gets close with, so no friends, no steady date. And the only person he’s really interested in in this shithole of a town, which Hawkins is to him, is Steve. Oh, that guy he could bear being near, why though?
I suppose, it starts with a somewhat male instinct/reflex to set dominance, which is kinda vital for Billy bc he’s from such a family, patriarchal and with a crystal clear hierarchy: if you’re on top, you don’t get beaten, you do the beating. Billy’s still a high school kid, he hasn’t seen much of the world, so he acts upon what he sees in his family and what his father teaches him. And the first rule is exactly this: show em who the boss is. This is so sad tho, let me cry a little here. Or A LOT.
So.
Hearing about a King Steve, the first thing Billy does is to knock him the fuck over what with all that keg thing and being right at Steve’s face at the party and staring him down and playing basketball HARD, not only beating Steve but also showing off the ease of it. Nice try, Billy, too bad Steve is so out of it he pays you no mind, huh?
That’s exactly when things get interesting.
I bet Billy’s used to guys with a reputation of a king being jerks, either fighting him or submitting and kissing his ass bc he’s the alpha here, and now he meets Steve who a) doesn’t care about his status (not the priority when you have a mind flayer on the loose and a bunch of VERY active kids on your hands) b) is not aggressive AT ALL: doesn’t push back, doesn’t really talk back and NEVER fucking fights back (or is just really slow about it, his mind is wrapped in the trauma of having been betrayed in a rather harsh for a teen way, okay). Crazy! But Billy can only speak fight and physical contact, talking in words about what he wants and feels is not his strongest trait (yeah, fuck you very much, NEIL), and oh boy is he eager to speak to Steve by now, to get his attention as c) Steve is not a weakling, there’s a story and surprise surprise what if he can be the equal Billy needs.
That shower scene shows just how Billy is desperate for Steve to see and recognize him. First he talks friendly to him. Steve doesn’t react. Billy teases him with the bitches in the sea line. Steve still ignores him. Then Billy turns the tap and waits for Steve to FINALLY look at him before giving the final line along with the slap on the shoulder.
That move just screamed LOOK AT ME, and Billy was so happy to get the reaction, just look at his smug face then.
And here comes that night at the Byers’.
Not the best night for Billy: first you get abused by your dad, then you have to go look for your not even real sis after ditching your date, and your mood is SHIT, and then there’s this mrs Wheeler, and you HAVE to be charming not that it’s a hard stunt to pull, and then you gotta go hell knows where to that weird family house, and then there’s Harrington.
The first highlight of the night! You can tell that Billy is surprised but not annoyed or dissatisfied to see Steve there. He’s ready to talk his way as he always is. He always hopes to make Steve fight him, speak to him in his language. And he’s enjoying their conversation, but only to the point when Billy realizes that Steve is lying. That’s a no no apparently, but not a big one, bc it’s Steve. Billy just decides it’s enough bullshit for today, time to claim Max and get it over with.
What he didn’t expect though was that Lucas would be there (boiling point almost reached) and that Steve would finally fight him, full on. I can only imagine how both pissed and happy Billy must be at this point, but he’s totally having his fun getting his face punched by Steve, just for the taste of it. Billy’s in his element at that moment (fuck you very much, NEIL). Yeah, he’s happy to see Steve like this, to be with him like this, to speak the language he knows with him. And he could deal with being ignored, bc he knows damn well how to draw attention back to himself, but rejection? WHAT DO YOU MEAN GO AWAY STEEB IS THIS A JOKE I JUST GOT HERE
He just fucking sees red AND LOSES IT. He’s hurt and angry and overwhelmed and doesn’t know how to deal with it (fuck you, NEIL), so he acts like a 3 year old, except he’s big and strong, and I feel bad for the poor lamb Steve.
Doesn’t seem like a good start for a friendship so far, huh?
STILL. I believe that Billy has that potential in realizing and working out his mistakes (respect and responsibility, and he’s trying to be like that). And Steve being the sweetheart that he is, kind and understanding (and a bit dumb in an adorable way?) would forgive him. And I believe Steve has a soft spot for nerds, and Billy IS a nerd, just wait for him to stop being angsty and open up a little.
Billy would be good for Steve bc Billy is THE ENGINE so lively and bubbly and straight-forward and simple and energetic and witty when he’s not being affected by his dad. He doesn’t lie, he would tell you you’re bullshit the moment he knows so without brooding and lying to you about it. He’s not scared of confrontation, he will tell a person landing a bat between his legs to screw off. Honesty, bravery, a ton of charm, responsibility and having been through some shit ie experience - good. Daddy issues, anger issues, language barrier - not so much, but good for the DRAMA and character development.
Steve would be good for Billy bc he’s the opposite of Neil and maybe everything Billy really feels he needs: emotionally warm, strong, but not violent, protective, kind and understanding, responsible and having been through some real dark shit ie experience and priorities set right.
Too bad Steve is deep in his head with all that Nancy situation, going through “I love you - You’re bullshit” dichotomy, he sees ppl around him only in SOS situations, apparently, plus well the kids, being the mom he is.
Too bad Billy doesn’t even realize how much he wants Steve and how much he really cares about them having even a little something. That pretty boy comment wasn’t thought through and reflected on, that I can tell, otherwise Billy would’ve realized how weird that sounds in a straight neutral situation between two high school boys in the mid-80s. He can afford being playful bc he doesn’t realize that he is. To me btw that kinda screams VIRGIN, but it’s just me right
Okay, now I gotta go read some emergency consolation Harringrove, ty

Okay, harringrove hit me like a train, and now it’s just my naked bones rattling all over the railway.
I’m seriously so torn. I feel sick just thinking about watching season 3 for the very possible pain of it all, you know, Steve getting assigned a new gf, Billy getting killed off, all the antis shitposting under my sweet sweet otp’s tag...
On the other hand, I really want to believe the Duffers are trolling with all that “ohh a textbook enigmatic alt chickkkk! Billy’s just a dumb villainnnn, it’s gonna get worssssse! Everybody who you love from season 1 will DIEEEE!” Is this show really supposed to be that shallow? Does it really need that cheap hype? Frankly speaking, I don’t know what I expect from a Netflix tv pop show. I just hoped that the series made for geeks by geeks would somehow go deeper than “a human villain” esp since that “villain” is a 17 yo with daddy issues, and honestly making a piece of irredeemable trash out of a troubled teen (srsly he didn’t even have a knife or anything on him) is a total dick move on behalf of everyone responsible.
Now it’s time for me to explain why Billy isn’t deserving of all the crap he’s been given by the fandom. And okay, okay, I won’t put I JUST LOVE MAH BAYBEEEEHHHH all over the list.
First of all, I suggest to take a step back and take in the starting point. Billy’s a 17 yo guy, with an okay(ish?) step-mom, his actual mom being most probably dead (I’m not sure but I feel in the US it’s more common for women to get custody after divorce?) and a dad who gives Billy constant shit over the smallest things. Let’s not forget two more things: this 17 yo is supposed to be responsible for a 13 yo (dunno about you, I’d be super pissed off, because girls this age can give you HELL, boys give you HELL a bit later), and for whatever fuck up they both committed he’s exiled from his home place which means no memory of his mom apart from that little thing he always wears on that chain (is that just my hc tho?), no friends, no possible family like caring aunts-uncles-nanas-grandpas, no voice in the family. As I see the situation judging from those little snippets we gather from the conversations, Billy could have fucked up looking after Max, probably big time, probably it had smth to do with Susan’s ex and Max’s dad, so Neil had them packing and moving across the whole country. I just wonder how bad could that fuck up have been that Billy got guilt-tripped so badly he wasn’t able to say no and stay in Cali somehow? HE’S CRAZY LIKE THAT ANTIS HUH? It’s also not a thing a caring parent would do out of the blue, Billy had only a year before graduation. I believe Neil to love his son and care for his future, fight me. BUT. When you are a responsible parent with some skill for communication and actually understanding what you’re doing and that there’s an independent individual in front of you, not an abstract child like whatever that word even means apart from age, you don’t hit them, you don’t shout, you don’t impose. My point being that Neil is freaking out. He’s got two teens on his hands, you gotta be strict not to let them go crazy rebellious, right? He’s desperate to keep his son in line, denying everything he really is at the moment. What is he though? Well, a super lonely teen who wants his dad to be proud of him. I think he tries really hard to follow that “respect and responsibility” mantra: gives Max a lift no problem, tries to come to terms that they are family now, tries to protect her. Which brings me to the question of racism, and no, I don’t think he’s racist at all. I don’t think he cares, he’s got a lot going on already. What he cares about is agitated Max. Remember the way she left the arcade? All confused, angry, bewildered. Billy just was being protective the way his practically non-existent emotional intellect allowed him. Probably he knew there would be a shitstorm coming if Neil found out. I don’t think young girls are allowed bfs in his household. That’s the vibe I got there, fellas.
Why is Billy so lonely though? Just look at that guy, he’s got everything: the face, the ass, the style, the charm, the smile, the wit. He’s unapologetically confident and knows how to get what he wants, so being alone and not making any friends seems to be a choice of his own. Mainly because he’s super pissed about everything. I mean he really has no chill when it comes to emotions, they control him. Moreover, he doesn’t plan on staying longer than is absolutely necessary, so why try. As for a gf, he’s not that into girls, which could be for several reason (my hc is him being gay, no surprises here lol). I think he’s actually a virgin. We see him with a girl once, he didn’t seem nice or caring or at least a little bit amused, so probably that was out of sheer bore. Nothing to do other than date or keg-drink in a small town, huh, Billy boy? Third, and don’t hit me yet, he’s kind of a nerd himself. And here I have to say thanks to a very devoted lady who brought to my attention two details about Billy’s room one of them being a poster for the first Metallica album which only few ppl liked as much (nerds!), and another one being James Thurber’s autobiography Billy had on his table. How’s that for your typical basketball bully Cali boy reading? Nerd! So he’s a bit too picky about all this friends and connections thing. Also I’d like to point out that Max actually found her a whole party of friends, I think that could make Billy kinda jelous? Before that it felt they were in the same boat, sort of a team? In the first scene they appeared I honestly thought they were this cool bro-sis pair fully armed to take on Hawkins ready or not.
So. I feel for my boy. He’s just a lonely kid with daddy issues and zero anger control.
To be continued, cuz there’s also my precious mama teddy bear Steve.
