A shop update

As you all might know, I’m a US-based small artist. I do my silly little doodles, and hope they bring someone else a bit of joy. I sell my stuff on ko-fi. It doesn’t bring in much, but it makes me happy. But right now, I’m unsure of what the future holds with the tariffs, but I do know this: with the end of the de minimis exemption (prior to this, everything imported under $800 was exempt), I can’t afford to restock my stickers and keychains. My prints are fine because I print those myself on my own printer. But the rest? I legit don’t know. I think that when I run out of stock, that’ll be it for a while. If I find a US sticker printer with a good enough quality, I’d have to raise my prices, and I’m already uncomfortable with how high they are. Do I exclusively sell prints now, something that I can keep in house (literally) entirely? I don’t know.

It’s a scary time to be a small artist shop. I don’t have the answers, and it feels like being stuck at sea without an oar.

I haven’t used my Copics in…forever? This was a fact that bummed me out. So yesterday, I sat down and doodled a little Will Graham, and it wasn’t horrible 🤷🏻

Pouring out a black coffee tonight

My husband, on a whim, introduced me to David Lynch’s work last year. I had no context for what to expect, and went in cold. What I discovered was a world that spoke to my sense of creativity in a way that few others had. We binged Twin Peaks, falling down the rabbit hole further, watched Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart. And each film scratched a creative itch I never knew I had. It felt like something missing falling into place.

I’m incredibly thankful for the art that David Lynch put out into the world, and for making me feel seen as a creator. He will be severely missed.

2024 was a flurry of a year. So much happened, while simultaneously feeling like so little happened. My kid started school. I became a “school mom” and orchestrated a class party. We went camping as a family for the first time. I started hiking every week. I grew out my hair again and then cut it off. I learned to take a little time for myself. I got a tattoo at a pop up arts and craft fair. I got interviewed by Kojima Productions. I went to see some of my favorite bands in concert. I made friends. I planned a birthday party for my kiddo with all of her classmates. We went to the town that Twin Peaks was filmed in.

We did so much, but the year feels like it flew by in a flash. I’m hoping that 2025 will bring with it some calmness, and more downtime for artwork.
