One Dress a Day Challenge
November: Grey Redux
My Fair Lady / Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle
A real classic today. The three tiers on the collar mirror the three-tiered skirt, and both feature similar scalloped edges with floral embroidered decoration. I'm struck by the weight of the fabric, which can be seen in the close-up photo: it has some real heft and looks as if it might be wool. A white lace collar peeks out at the top. The outfit is completed with a rather schoolgirlish black hair bow and pointy black boots, which are mostly not visible under the skirt.
The signature on the sketch reveals that this costume was designed by Cecil Beaton, although Michael Neuwirth also worked on the film, according to IMDB.
The play on which this movie was based was published in 1912, but the costuming strikes me as just a few years earlier. The visible zipper line in the back of this dress isn't very period, although zippers were around by then.

Most of the time, the other one, the bad one, is just hiding, or waiting, but it's all real.
YELLOWJACKETS 3.03, Them's the Brakes / 3.10, Full Circle
#the two realities theory would have gone so hard#all season i waited for the yellow filter to disappear#and for it to cut to the dead of winter and we discover that the entire group is experiencing collective psychosis#because you’re really telling me they survived that when jackie was out in the snow for a single night and DIED#they HAD NO FOOD#AND THEY DIDNT EAT ANYONE ELSE UNTIL COACH SCOTT#but yeah they found and bred livestock and planted gardens and built houses#for sure#yellowjackets

YELLOWJACKETS, 3x10 "Full Circle"
#i think the finale was the best it could be with how they handled this season#but it’s still so incongruent with the pilot#in the pilot we see the hunt as a communal and barbaric and cultish practice that each girl willingly and excitedly takes part in#in the finale the hunt is shown in an entirely different light#it seems clear that we won’t see the girls’ humanity devolve into the horrors in the pilot#because in the finale the hunt is a final and desperate ploy to get help and escape#some of the girls fully believe in the hunt in terms of the wilderness religion#others fully believe in the hunt as an instrument of control and power#and others fully oppose the hunt but are too afraid to speak up because it will almost certainly result in their own death#but for most of them (idk how many actually lol) the hunt was a great sacrifice they collectively decided to make for#even the slightest chance of rescue#i just think that this show has a tendency to make these absolutely crazy moments feel so unearned#yellowjackets
