hello again, everyone! lesbocs here, coming at you all with another new post about this blog and its management.

its a priority to be transparent here, and get everyones input (esp. those who are interested in participating in the future). as it looks like weve gotten a lot of responses indicating people would like to participate in a bracket like this again, we are pretty interested in running another bracket on here ourselves. however, whats up for debate THIS time is the question of the frequency of the brackets - options laid out below. (i think theyre pretty straightforward but if you need more information before voting youre always welcome to send an ask!!)

like the last one, this poll will go for a week so that everyone can get a say in this. id also like to encourage those interested in participating to reblog this for a bigger sample size if you want but! you really dont need to. thank you all!

we here at lesbocs are still debating whether or not to run this bracket again (obviously, with new participants), eventually. the timeframe for if / when we do this isn't established but right now if we do this it'd probably be at least six months from now. while this won't be the only deciding factor for if we run this again, i figured getting your input on this decision would be important!

running this bracket has revealed some management tweaks and improvements we could make as well, so any future bracket we may run will have at least some kinks ironed out. please keep that in mind while casting your vote.

(i ask that people who participated as competitors in this recent bracket not vote, or select 'results' if you want to see. this is mostly polling for interest for those who want to be competitors in future brackets, and for the sake of fairness, we will avoid having the same competitor in the bracket twice in a row.)

"hiii!!! this is a character from a horror rpg maker game series that perhaps one day i will make.

mary is a poor pathetic meow meow final girl who has doomed the narrative itself. she has the ability to see anomalies (ghosts, demons, spirits, etc-- basically anything supernatural) but nobody believes her. she's a student at an all girl's catholic school in rural ohio in a vaguely post-apocalyptic timeline who is relentlessly bullied by her peers for being weird and neurodivergent and she has a sucky home life so all around she's having a terrible time. she's kind of eccentric and super into the occult, which in the good catholic town of woolwick is not accepted at all. her only ally is her older brother, callum, who she is very dependent upon but he apparently runs away from home shortly after a fight between the two of them. (it's a misunderstanding, he has his own demon stuff going on) and she's left in her senior year of high school feeling like shit.

so yeah life hates her and she hates life back. but !!! her solution to her very vitriolic misanthropy and unhappy circumstances is to open a portal to hell and allow her fucked up town to be consumed by it. on devil's night (the night before halloween, where kids play pranks and throw toilet paper at houses and etc) she sets her plan into motion and manages to find her way into getting roped up in the hijinks of a group of misfits (all students her age at the catholic girls school and all wlw and most of them are pretty nice actually) and horror game shit ensues with her getting involved in too because she's just a strange beast motivated by years and years of resentment and didn't really plan shit out… but she survives in the true end yay ^__^ sort of. schrodinger's cat girl.

she plays a vaguely overarching antagonistic role in the series over all but her intentions slowly become more benign as the story progresses… also she develops weird homoerotic enemies to allies to friends to STABS YOU IN THE BACK relationships with two of the other girls in the cast. idk mary is just a silly quirky trans autistic lesbian and yes she wants to destroy the whole world in her grief for her brother and the life she never had but she looked cute doing it!!!"

Why does Reah only have a single paragraph in the poll? Her propaganda post is way longer than just a paragraph and compared to Maryam’s entry in the poll it looks really small. It’d be really cool if it at least linked to the full post or Souls Foreclosed as a whole since the whole point of this is to share independent characters from creative projects

all the content on the polls themselves has been copy-pasted from the initial submission the participants made from the google forms! we've also linked souls foreclosed on the poll itself as well as to mariyam's toyhouse page, both links were provided by the submitters in their initial google form. that wasn't a required field on the form, so if you do look through the polls that've been posted for all participants, not all of them will have these extra links. 👍

if we were to run this again we would definitely provide stronger outlines for the content we're looking for in the submission info (to provide more uniformity and prevent cases like 'one participant has an essay vs one participant has only a sentence'), that is definitely a management flop on our part. by the time that we realized that it was an issue, we'd already been about an hour late on posting the polls - another management issue thanks to the tumblr post editor 😅 though i hope people are bothering to read all the content on these polls and looking at the links while considering who to vote for, since both contenders (all participants this whole bracket, honestly) have been very worthy for consideration.

with that said, regardless of who everyone supports, i do want to say that the links to more info for these characters we've seen participating in this bracket are there for a reason - check them out!! some have toyhouse pages, some have full projects behind the links, and others have blogs or tags for their ocs, and still others just want to encourage people to send asks about their characters. it's all really good content, so do take the time to go look at all of those!

she’s nigh indestructible and has survived trekking through a valley of thorns alone at night, being branded with a lobotomy iron, getting hit by a train, being shot in the head and gored with a scythe, a gatling gun salvo to the stomach, having her Soul mutilated and ripped out of her body, possessing her femme (consensually), being trapped in a sealed playing card, and falling from a crashing airship

her first action immediately after being resurrected in a new body? Stop an evil Frankenstein from attacking her friends (based)

No butch can thrive in solitude, and she’s no exception. Her femme partner Tabitha is the self-proclaimed greatest sorcerous mind of her time! She couldn’t be in this tournament because I was only able to submit one character - they’re part and parcel though. Tabitha is the mastermind behind Reah’s pain-dampening sigils and the one who kept her Soul in the realm of the living when Reah was disembodied. A vote for Reah is a vote for both of them though.

why you should vote maryiam baskerville in the @lesbocs poll

i put off making a propaganda post for a while but here's my attempt at one now. the long and short of mary is that she's an autistic trans lesbian cursed with the ability of seeing the supernatural who attends an all girls catholic school and she's absolutely hellbent on destroying her entire hometown because she hates everyone there. she's a sad pathetic loser girlflop and very strange. here are a few reasons why i love her and why you should love her too!

she's the "antagonist" (quote marks because the narrative itself is the antagonist and she's just a stand-in) and yes she has indirectly committed murder at seventeen over high school bullying. but who hasn't?

certified relatable girlflop. she's actually fairly talented at a few different niche things she taught herself ( creating software bugs, crocheting, memorizing scientific animal names ) and she's a really good artist ( but everything she draws is weird and gorey ) but she sucks at everything else. average c student who can't socialize for shit and is constantly losing things and is clumsy as hell and is relentlessly bullied by the whole school for every flaw of hers.

oh also she's a closet goth. she can't dress the way she wants to because of catholic school uniform requirements but if she could be decked out in victorian goth dresses she would. also she's super into the occult and creepy and likes both cute and gross things.

in the third "act" (it would be the third hypothetical game) she gets a fake girlfriend named odette tsehay who she immediately has very intense homoerotic tension with but ultimately they pull an orpheus and eurydice if orpheus was a bitch and did it on purpose. sorry they're toxic yuri sorry as if i could write anything else.

she acts a bit off and is very visibly neurodivergent and is not the friendliest because of it but if you take the time to get to know her, she's... still not the best but a very silly quirky girl who is just desperately trying to find a place where she belongs. YES she's selfish and YES she doesn't really learn anything or improve YES she can be kind of mean herself despite being a victim of bullying YES she's weird a weird doesn't fit in but i love her and so should you. please vote for her if you want to!!!
