for one of the background characters I designed, I was asked to make a short loop animation. I think this went well and gives off the impression of a weird dodgey characte, which I was going for.
For the Grad assist project I was asked to create new character designs for a third years film. There concept art below is what I used as reference for how they colour their characters
For the second scene iv’e mostly animated the first half of the scene. I think the animation went well, maybe when Guines laughing I should move him more to the centre of the screen
I was thinking for this to be the opening dhot for my film with calm instmental music to set the scene. After this pan up to Pola and Guines homes, I am going to add a quick timelaspe of the sun rising from the left silghtlly and then Have Pola crawling out of his igloo. The colours of the ice caps and water will look more or less like the concept art at the bottom.
I achieved these backgrounds for scene 1 of Pola and Guine by using photoshop. I used backgrounds from chilly willy as reference for snow. I noticed that they use a lot of blues and white, so I applied that to the digital painting.
In the first picture I wrote some notes based on feedback I got from a friend on some improvements I can make for some parts of the film. I then made a rough storyboard based on her advise and feedback I got from the crit in the second and third photo. In the last image a friend made me a sketch of what changes I can make the make the scenes clearer to understand for the viewer. With these ideas I will add them to the animatic.
After some feedback I was adviced to map out the home for some scenes in the film because the camera angles appeared a bit confusing to follow. So to solve the issue I ended up making a map of the iceberg home followed by sketches of the iceberg in different angles so it can make things easier for me when making the decision on camera angles. I also made this diagram because I am planning on making a model of the home out of clay so I can make a stopframe film as reference for different camera movements and shots.
I got these reference pictures from a book called Elemental Magic Volume II: The technique of special effects animation. I needed to reference of something splashing into the water to help me with the scene when the worm (Wilbert) get thrown into the water.
I decided to make a plastercine model of Pola. This is to help me get an idea of what he would roughly look like in different angles and to also shoot test scenes of challenging camera movements that would be added into the animatic and animation. I will animate this in stop motion and then use the test scene as reference.
