SIMON BEING POC AND QUEER IS INNATELY IMPORTANT TO THE NARRATIVE OF LOTF

His queerness, and therefore distance from masculinity (in the work that is. Queerness does not always mean non-masculine but at the time this was a common thought and in some level truth as a queer men were more likely than their cis het counterparts to act in non traditionally masc ways) furthers the perspective of misogyny from men, no matter how young, and how that inevitably hurts everyone. Simon isn’t a girl, but he’s not your stereotypical macho army man either and that makes him a target for the anger in the other boys own insecurities about their masculinity to be taken out on. We see a boy who is queer and therefore a target. Not because of any wrong doing, but for simply showing his belly to the wrong animal.

Simon is also a person of color in the book, and implied to have native heritage (sharing traits many native and indigenous peoples, including my peoples yay Inca mention, share) while the novel itself is rooted in racism and Simon and Roger are arguable racial stereotypes, Simon being native and the only boy to not go “savage” shows that this sort of wrongness isn’t something you can just British out of people, and rather innate (again, the “science” behind this is rooted in racism and I personally disagree with Goldings point, but it is still integral to the novel)

To separate Simon from his queerness and from his being a poc, is to separate Simon from all of that which he represents.
