Just saw Carlos at the Motogp race in Spain and is riding the bike (another I’m just a girl moment)

No body and I literally mean no body will look better than Max on that bike from F1 drivers *inserts that pic or gif from Honda thanks day when Max rode Marc’s bike but I don’t have it*

I love the whole "Lestappen are insane ab each other" half - joking discourse as much as the next person, but can we all just stop for a second and really think about the whole situation... because it's so fucking wild and it must feel so amazing to them that the kid they had so much fun competing against didn't just stay in the past, no, it's right there next to them, and they are still fighting wheel to wheel together, they are still battling it out in the only way they know best, and they are still having so much fun at the absolute top, in the pinnacle of motorsport - Together. They get to do all that together!!! It's just so exhilarating.

Idk what brought this on, but I was suddenly so overwhelmed with emotion about them, like, no wonder they can't be normal about each other - I wouldn't be either if someone I was so deeply connected to in all areas of life when I was a child (and we all know everything is 99% more dramatic when you're a child) was still around me years into adulthood, still wanted to keep their connection with me and is just as wild as when we were kids.

Relationships you form as a child but bring into adulthood are in a whole different category of emotion, no other feeling can match them, and I can only imagine that Charles and Max feel the same way when they are in a room full of other people, like - yes, that one, that one I've known all my life, that's my person and no one here has quite the same connection with them as I do.

You're absolutely right, anon. It really is insane when you think about it. They've known for over two decades now, they've grown up together, they made it into f1 together. I think that's exactly the reason why both are always so insistent to use the word together – which they don't really do (as much) when talking about the other boys – when talking about their journey, even when talking about times when they weren't friendly. They've always stood apart from the rest, and they've had each other, which inevitably will form a bond, even when you don't want it to (looking at you, baby Charles). People have always been so insistent on putting them together, as Charles and Max and Max and Charles, have they ever had a choice?

And, I think yes, they did and they do. They don't have to be friendly, still. Despite and because their shared history and talent that sets them apart, they could be the worst of rivals, with no comradery shared. But they choose to find each other, to talk to each other, to treat the other one like the only worthy other equal, without a trace of malice, even though, God knows, Charles would have enough reasons to be bitter and spiteful seeing how Max is having all this success and he doesn't have a title (yet).

And yet, here we have Charles in 2021 saying that Max is going to win the title; we have Charles in 2022 congratulating Max in Japan and celebrating with him even as his own dream of a WDC that year officially was over; we have Charles in 2023, without even turning off his radio, being the first person to rush to Max to congratulate him on his third title, telling him and the world that he deserves this and so much more. We have Max using every opportunity to tell everyone how incredible Charles is, always making sure that everyone knows that Charles is his only worthy rival and of course he has the talent to win; no matter what anyone says.

We realise a lot of things only as we get older. It's so telling that they're now looking back on their karting days with this smile on their faces, admitting that even the bad memories are now good, and how much they loved karting. They'll always have that shared past and it's incredible to see these two adults, despite the pressure of their sport and being rivals, actively and consciously making a choice to have a good relationship.
