Looking back at the like three original posts I made on this blog when I was initially into ace attorney is so funny because I was so sure that I didn't give a shit about Athena even though I both made a dd rewrite where she's the main character AND made a hypothetical Athena Cykes game that takes place after soj I was and still am obsessed with her shfjsgks.

#rat rambles #I dont think I ever talked abt the athena game? but thats just because I never talked abt any of my ideas back then #athena is the full time main character with trucy as the main assistant role again #and it mainly follows athena wanting to be able to achieve as much as phoenix and apollo but not rly being able to #mainly on account of her having only been a full lawyer for about a year + the fact that those two litterally overthrew a government #the game is heavily focused on the idea of legacies with trucy starting to more heavily question what she wants to do with her life #now that shes a full adult #mainly just her realising that she actually has kind of complicated feelings on being a magician now and not knowing what to do abt that #and one big thing for both of them is having to learn that they dont need to have their lives completely figured out yet #with how quickly they both had to grow up its easy for them to forget that theyre still young #they have time to figure their shit out and people who are willing to support them #also the whole 'apollo and trucy being half siblings' thing eventually gets dropped on them but thats a whole other thing dhdhdhdgd

So, one of the ridiculous things that Edgeworth does while in his Bratsworth era is get into a staring contest with his own reflection… and then declare himself the winner. Now, the obvious answer to how this happened is that he just blinked and declared himself the winner, ridiculous lawyer-child he was.

The answer that amuses me more, however, is that his reflection literally blinked first, because Miles is just that stubborn and also we have ghosts and spirits and stuff canonically in this world, why not? And also, as a result of this, ever since then Edgeworth and his reflection haven’t been quite in perfect sync anymore. Sometimes it’s like nothing happened, other times it’ll be small - his reflection’s hair or jabot is out of place while Edgeworth’s isn’t - and sometimes it’s quite drastic.

For example: there’s one time where Phoenix and Edgeworth are walking by a large mirror together and Phoenix’s heart almost stops because “Holy crap, Edgeworth, where’s your reflection?!?” And Edgeworth just looks over, rolls his eyes with a sigh, and raps his knuckles on the mirror. Whereupon his reflection quickly pops up, straightening his hair, gives Phoenix a wave, then goes into being the perfect mirror image of Edgeworth you expect a reflection to be. Edgeworth’s only comment to Phoenix’s slack jaw and accusing finger is, “Oh. Yes, it does that sometimes.”
