Jacub Gagnon’s “Short Stories” at Thinkspace Gallery.
Opening on Saturday, April 1st, 2017 at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City, California is artist Jacub Gagnon’s solo exhibition “Short Stories.”
Creating stunning, realistic depictions of animals and objects, Gagnon includes surreal elements within his compositions, taking us out of the hyperreal into a seemingly other dimension, where the reality of dreams are the norm. Whilst viewing, one might become aware that they are remnants of something long past and only exist through the history of the objects that remain.
“Short Stories” will be on view until April 22nd, 2017.

It’s one thing to fall in love. It’s another to feel someone else fall in love with you, and to feel a responsibility toward that love.

i think of her legs
wrapped around your torso
you are panting into her neck
grinding slowly against her hips
and goddamit i want to vomit
fuck the universe for my vivid imagination
and the fact that you could be with anyone else besides me
yes, i’m childish and rotten
for thinking “now” is not good enough
and wanting you “then” as well
but hell, it must be some twisted joke
that the people we fall in love with
loved someone else first

Why for example, does a twenty-two-year-old man pursue a sixteen-year-old adolescent? Because he is stimulated by her? Obviously not. They are at completely different developmental points in life with a dramatic imbalance in their levels of knowledge and experience. He is attracted to power and seeks a partner who will look up to him with awe and allow him to lead her. Of course, he usually tells her the opposite, insisting that he wants to be with her because of how unusually mature and sophisticated she is for her age. He may even compliment her on her sexual prowess and say how much power she has over him, setting up the young victim so that she won’t recognize what is happening to her. Even without a chronological age difference, some abusive men are drawn to women who have less life experience, knowledge, or self-confidence, and who will look up to the man as a teacher or mentor.

The handcrafted works of Rebeka Elizegi, a collage artist based in Barcelona, Spain, come in varying sizes and scopes. And much of Elizegi’s work involves the female figure, along with the topics of “generic diversity and sexual ambiguity,” according to the artist. More on HiFructose.com.
