“You’ve never seen a fight?” Danny laughed. He knew the kind of person he was dealing with – the kind who had been overprotected. “I mean… no one fights for attention – which is why this one’s so fake – no, if you’re like, gonna watch a fight, it’s because you’re in it or you’re trying to make sure the person in it doesn’t die…”
Why he was explaining all the semantics, he wasn’t sure – most of what he said was made up, anyway. He’d been in fights, but he was mostly the idiot who egged his friends on to keep going even though there were bloody noses and stained clothes everywhere.
Danny didn’t know what presumptuous meant, not really sure if she was hesitating on coming with him. “I mean, yeah! Like, why’s that such a big deal? Lol. If you don’t wanna come then whatever… muggles have way more interesting shit to be doing anyway and I dunno, it’s probably better to bring someone who can keep up.”
A muggle fight was probably more fun than a wizarding one – especially since there weren’t wands to turn it into a duel. It was all fists. But Danny wasn’t thinking that he was going to watch a fight somewhere else – no, he was out to make some cash, and whatever he had up his sleeve as definitely shit that muggles would pay for. And she didn’t seem like the type to really hang out with muggles either.
“Can’t say I am the sort of person who would ever fight...” drumming her fingernails against her leg, Colette tried to come up with reasons in her head that could lead to a brawl but nothing in the world seems worth getting injured for, to her at least. “Guess I’ll have to watch out for someone.” which also seems like something that won’t happen, but one can hope that one day she will half-care enough about one person that she will be worried about their well being.
His words weren’t a challenge per se, but they did spark something inside her her, let’s call it -- a desire to have a stranger think her worthy of his attention due to her lack of meaningful bonds in every other place in her life, or something along these lines. “I was just trying to ask you for your name.” shrugging, she grinned and extended her hand, “I’m Lette.” in her travels she always used her name, but with her husband’s shadow so close, the rarely used nickname seemed like a safer choice.

“I can’t send that without government authorization, which is very hard to come by and cannot be done through this branch. You will have to bring it directly to the Congr- Ministry of Magic,” the American explained. “I get that you want it sent as soon as possible, but it is out of my hands. Please fill out a complaint if you need. May I help whomever is next ?” It had been ages since he’d had to work a job like this, but as a foreigner they must have found it amusing to put him in the customs department. Especially during the busiest shipping season. “Please tell me this is a local delivery ?” there was nearly a pleading tone to his southern accented voice.
He had gotten a few inquiring looks from patrons the last few weeks after being moved here on a temporary basis until the travel ban was lifted. That damn travel ban. Like he wanted to be stuck here instead of being at home with his own family and friends. At least he knew of one or two people around. “Just this one?”
“Wales still counts as local, right?” setting the box down on the counter, Colette sighed contentedly as her muscles began relaxing after having to lift way more weight than they used used to. “And, no, wait.” rummaging through her bag, she pulled out a slightly crumbled envelope.
“I need to send this as well.” while Colette isn’t particularly fond of her grandparents (honestly, she actively dislikes them), they did technically raise her and that means they get Christmas and birthday gifts from her every year. If the gifts are actually good is a completely different story.

raxlestrange:
Avery frowned when he saw her shiver, surprising himself a little. While he was always concerned for her well-being, he found it a rather foreign feeling now that she was really there with him. It was easier to care for someone when they were several countries away and only required your income to get by. Colette had never actually needed anything from him that access to his bank account couldn’t supply, and while he was more than prepared to give his wife anything she might need to make this arrangement easier on her, it was very peculiar to him to be needed for something so mundane and personal.
“None that I’m aware of, though I’d only take half if I were you – considering you’re about half my size. Do you… would you like me to make it warmer in here? We could start the fire in your room if that’d help? There might be some more blankets around here…” Funny how wizards could do so much with their magic but could still seem so helpless when faced with something as simple as a cold.
Half his size is pushing it, but her husband is considerably taller than her. Something she is thankful for; her mother had despaired as Colette got taller and taller. Apparently, most of the suitors they had lined up weren’t ecstatic about their wife being as tall as them (or taller in heels). Avery, on the other hand, almost made her look delicate.
“Yeah, that would be great.” she had been planning on opening random cupboards until she found more blankets, Avery’s offer speed up the process. “A fire?” a line appeared between her brows as she considered his suggestion, fireplaces are beautiful and romantic but sleeping while one was lit always freaked her out. “I don’t think so, I think a few extra blankets and a heating charm will be enough.”

mustbeamalfoy:
Scorpius looked up from the book he was reading– a fluffy Quidditch romance whose cover he had charmed to look like a memoir of Cornelius Fudge. He was surprised to see Colette, but not necessarily displeased. Of the long list of people Scorpius liked, Colette was not near the top, but she was much higher than most people, including Scorpius, expected. Especially since she seemed to want nothing to do with the Lestrange family.
“Always a pleasure, Colette. You’re looking cheerful today,” he grinned, closing his book and gesturing to his half-eaten crumpet. If he had to resort to eating in cafes while the breakfast room was being renovated, at least he had the chance to run into interesting people occasionally. And Colette certainly fit the category of “interesting.”
He took another bite of his crumpet. “I wouldn’t go for the croissants here, but I’ve been spoiled by our elf’s incredible baking. Though I suppose you’d be the expert on French pastry, given the circumstances,” Scorpius considered. “How are you these days?”
“It’s good to be outside again. I had a terrible cold for a few days. I’m glad to be finally out of the house.” some people can spend days without leaving their house and be blissfully happy about it. Colette is not one of these people. The crumpet did look delicious. When the waiter stopped to take her order, she asked for one and a glass of lemonade.
His assumption threw her for a second -- was he saying that due to her husband’s family or her constant traveling? The former sounded more plausible but the latter actually reflected the truth. “I do know some great cafes in France. There is this wonderful one in Nice that serves an Opera cake that is simply sinful.”
“I’m as well as the situation allows me to be. What about you? What’re you doing these days?”

marius--lestrange:
Marius sneered. “I didn’t think you had friends.”
The statement was supposed to be an insult, but there was a smidgen of truth to it: Colette was never around enough to really make friends in the United Kingdom, and when she was around, Marius didn’t see her as the socializing type – at least not the kind to make friends so much as to check names off of a list of people she was supposed to know. As much as Marius tried to buck the norm there even before he was engaged to a muggleborn, his own mother arranged playdates as a child and invited very specific families to whatever parties they had thrown.
“You should have helped me before,” Marius pointed out. “Otherwise you wouldn’t have to owe me…”
It didn’t take him long to realize what the boring little housewife needed to do for him. His eyes grew a little larger with how eager he was about the plan, caring little for what happened if she failed. He’d just have to do this the hard way if she insisted on being so useless.
“There’s one thing I need, and you – you’re the only person who could really do it.” While it’s not totally true that she’s the only person who could do this for him, she was the one who could attract the least attention and cause the least trouble – lest Marius let more secrets slip to the Daily Prophet. “Avery took my wand. I want it back.”
He wasn’t wrong there. Colette’s last real friend disappeared more than a decade ago. “An acquaintance than. I never lacked those.”
Colette was about to retort that it was unlikely she was the only person who could help him but his next words shut her up pretty quickly. She was, in fact, the only person in a position to help him.
Oh, this was why she didn’t help him before. The second he made his request the feeling that had haunted her over Christmas was back. She felt sick, and the room that had seemed so stuffy and warm a few seconds ago was now a blazing sauna.
“Can’t you just go to a wandmaker and ask for one? And if that fails... isn’t there a way to acquire one through other means?” she glanced up at the ceiling as she spoke, not wanting to meet his eyes, “it’s not that I don’t want to help you, but isn’t there another way?”

SHE TAKES NOTE OF HOW HER PREVIOUS HOUSEMATE SEEMS TO BE NOT INTO IT. she hasn’t really noticed colette much when they were in hogwarts apart from the fact that colette always seems to keep to herself. it’s probably why molly had never really interacted with her, their personalities contrast so much. she nods when colette tells molly of the change in her last name. molly doesn’t know much about the lestranges other than the fact that her aunt fleur and her sister hates each other, that’s all there is to it. “ oh, i didn’t know. well congratulations on the marriage. “ she says but only because it seems to be the most polite thing to do at the time.
she didn’t realize that talking to her old housemate would be just a tedious task. she wishes she’s back in her office, filling out paperwork. she doesn’t really know if it’s her or colette, and she doesn’t want to find out. “ sure they did, but they’ve also been really crappy on keeping up the end of the bargain with their promises. i doubt they’d be able to actually do something productive this time. “ she shrugs, downplaying her blatant disregard for the ministry efforts right to the face of someone she hasn’t seen in years.
“Really?” having been away for so long, Colette decides that for now she is going to accept her former housemate’s words as the truth; she seems confident enough, maybe she will share something useful. “That’s a pity. I was hoping to learn more about the situation. There is only so much you can learn by hearing what people are talking about right now.” until a month ago she had preferred to pretend that this whole situation was only going to last a few more weeks and soon she would be free. But, it appears that freedom isn’t just around the corner. The more she knows about this situation, the better she can predict it’s ending -- hopefully before spring begins, there are still a few places she wants to see covered in snow.
“So, what do you think they are doing today? A big PR stunt?”

lucy--corazonweasley:
How nice was it that someone could stop their lives for weeks just to go exploring what was on the other side of the world? Mrs. Lestrange’s explanation for the Chile painting gave Lucy more ideas – if her concoction for color change paints actually work well enough to use with a client painting, then she could get whatever basic landscape to change colors based on the time of that. That, of course, meant that the cost of the painting (or paintings, hopefully) would be pricier…
“Why not painting is the question? If I’m doing something, then it better be something I want to do for the rest of my life.” Lucy stood up a little straighter, a little more confident in herself – suddenly having an idea. Obviously she was in the freelance business to make some money herself, but if the taller woman were so curious about her career choices, then she could show her. Usually people were contemptuous and just didn’t ask, assuming that Lucy was an idiot or something.
“And I’m pretty damn good at it too… if it were easy, people would paint their own art themselves.” She grinned and tilted her head. Was she going to be giving formal lessons or something? Or was this going to be just a fun, casual thing for Mrs. Lestrange? Certainly there were places out there where people could paint whatever they wanted while drinking glasses of wine in the meantime. It just depended on what the woman wanted out of it. “I can show you, if you want. I can have you help me while I’m painting! You won’t be a bother, I swear – but a demonstration wouldn’t be bad, no?”
What a nice way to look of things. Why not? Why not choose a career she enjoys? Colette is sure that if her parents were poorer, she could have been forced into a career that brought prestige and money. Enjoyment and passion aren’t things that the Nott family usually considers while making plans.
“Have you been painting long? I hear painting requires years of training... Not that I am doubting you or anything, just curious about how you got involved with art.” wasn’t art one of those things people started loving as a child? She had read about several singers whose parents trained them since they were kids, but she can’t remember ever reading an article or a memoir of a painter.
A demonstration? Helping her? Those were interesting notions, and Colette was interested in trying new things, -- life would be very boring if she did the same thing everyday -- and her schedule was free. Idleness was also terrible, for it gave her time to think. “I would love that. I’ve never seen anyone paint before.”

“Mind if I sit here?” she asks, sitting down on the table with him. The cafe is brimming with people; there is barely enough room to think, much less to sit! Now, while technically there is one empty table not being used, but someone she hates is sitting on the adjacent table. So, she choose Scorpius.
Of the long list of people she dislikes (also known as humanity) Scorpius is at the bottom. He might annoy a lot of other people, but she sometimes enjoys his company.
“What’re you eating there? I was thinking of ordering the croissants, I hear they are delicious. But I am open to suggestions.”

Rolling With The Homies | Colette & James
If there was one thing people loved to do, it was to get their minds off of everyday life and just have fun. The Nine Tails was packed tonight after the lockdown at Hogwarts was lifted. Everyone was still on edge after what had happened. No one knew what to do or who to trust. Yet what a better way to take the edge off than to go out and dance the night away.
James was over looking the club in the comfort of the main office with his business partner. They had a rough opening with the travel ban and the recent attacks. Yet they were able to push through and still create a pretty successful business. He was proud of what he created so far. And maybe in the future, they could continue to build this place into a unifying oasis.
After some time, he decided to call it a night. Saying goodbye to his friend, he headed downstairs to the main level and spotted someone he knew by the bar. Colette Nott was an interesting character. She was from a pure blood family his father rarely mentioned in his stories. They were three years apart and in completely different houses, but James rarely forgot a naturally pretty face. Even if she did just recently grow into it.
“You should be enjoying the club in the comfort of a VIP suite.” He said loud enough for her to hear him. “Colette Nott right?”
@lettelestrange
She was having a marvelous night. The club was surprisingly good and she hadn’t needed to pay for any of her drinks so far tonight (not that she needed anyone buying her drinks, but she enjoyed the attention). Each drink was bought by a different partner, so far none of them were able to ignore her interest. Her latest companion had only been gone for thirty seconds when someone new approached her.
His face was familiar, and his name was on the tip of her tongue. Unusual, she usually had a lot of trouble connecting a face with a name. This must be someone important. Just as she was giving up trying to remember his name, it popped up -- James Potter. Of course!
“Lestrange,” she corrected immediately, “and why should I? I’m having a great time here. Plenty of room to dance, good drinks, and lots of pretty people.” he was a pretty specimen of a man, she realized biting her lip, quite handsome indeed.
“Are the suites that good?”

raxlestrange:
Avery couldn’t help but blink at her for a moment, surprised she was even asking him for help in the first place. “Oh – sure, they’re just…” Avery gestured to the door, beckoning her to follow as he padded down the few doors to his master suite where he kept his potion pantry. He technically wasn’t working that day, a fact that was made clear by his choice of attire. The metal charmer suddenly felt very under dressed, seeing Colette in just a t-shirt and lounge pants and leading her to his very bare room. But that was just silly, wasn’t it? Why should he care what she thinks of his appearance or the way that he lived? Having her around made him that much more aware of himself, and he wasn’t quite sure he liked it.
Opening the pantry, he scanned his wares carefully. It wasn’t often that he got sick, and even then it was rare that he ever actually took anything for it unless he really needed it. Quite a few of his potions needed restocking after the illness he had suffered only weeks ago, but he was sure he had something suited for milder symptoms. “This one should do…”
They are strangers, they live together, they are married but this is perhaps the first time she has seen him in such casual attire. Most of their interactions happen in public. It’s a disconcerting sight, and it chips away the image Colette has of him. His room is bare, thankfully, no hints of a personality whisper in these walls, keeping her sketch of his personality intact.
“Thank you.” taking the vial, she gives him a queasy smile as a shiver passes through her. Longing for the warm blanket back in her room, Colette wraps her arms around herself, pressing the vial against her stomach. “Any side effects or recommendations?” alternatively, how much of this should she take if she wants to pass out until tomorrow?

daniel--molina:
“Neanderthals. Huh.” She was pretty high class for someone to be using that word, but she seemed to be lot less… direct than the Mad Queen. Danny didn’t see her often – and he was at the Leaky Cauldron much more than he wanted to admit.
Danny laughed, his Americanized slang sprinkled amongst his words. “Is this forreal? If it was supposed to start half an hour ago, then it’s not gonna fucking start – god, how the hell is this place exciting all of a sudden but still hella boring? Muggle London is way cooler than this “
Besides, muggles actually gave him money for making stuff levitate and doing tricks that were really only first year charms. All of which were easy considering that he had his wand up his sleeve, especially when he couldn’t wear board shorts and a tank top in this weather.
“You can wait here or have fun with your Christmas shopping –” the idea was ludicrous to Danny if only because he didn’t know anyone to give a gift to aside from his own family “– but I’m not gonna wait with you, fam – I’m headed out.”
He gave her a conspiratorial wink; it was an invitation unsaid; Danny’s pretty fluent in flirting. Besides, it wouldn’t be the first time he walked out of the Leaky Cauldron with another girl just as his so-called girlfriend was working.
“If the lack of manners fit...” grinning, she looked at the scene once more, hoping that something would happen. An insult would get this fight started, but all they did was shoot dirty looks at each other. “Hella boring?” she repeated back with a chuckle, amused at his choice of words, “perhaps you are right... pity, I was really looking forward to it. Never seen a fight up close.”
There had been a lot of opportunities during her travels, but she had never actually bothered watching one. Boredom has truly changed her.
Even though he spoke like a lunatic (that’s americans for you) this stranger was very amusing, and his offer was tempting, unspoken promises of fun and so many other great things. “Do you usually invite people out without even asking their name?” she asked leaning closer, her head tilted to the side. “Bit presumptuous, don’t you think?”
