Ashton: Every part of this felt like a reoccuring hit that he was delivering to himself, but he knew it was one that he'd have to take, one that he needed to let happen no matter how much it hurt to see the pain that seemed to be showing by Luke's expression and his words. "I know that's what I said, and it's the truth, I do know, but I've had a lot of time to think about what I need to do and with the time that I've had to myself so much recently, I decided to spend it with him when.. when others had your time. It wasn't something predicted or planned, but it's something that I can't allow myself to ignore." Ashton looked down at the hand that he had still been holding onto since before he told Luke what he needed, brushing his thumb over the back of it before slowly letting go to keep his hands down by his sides. "You know that what I feel never left and that it never would with you, but I need time with what else I'm feeling."

Luke: Just as the younger musician came to the depressing conclusion that nothing could feel worse than the emotions that were forcefully being presented to him in this moment, Ashton's hand released his own, proving him wrong. Now he wasn't just emotionally being let go, but physically as well, and to see that cold detachment with his own eyes in visual form was a heavy weight that his heart couldn't carry, causing it to crack under the pressure. "Time away from me?" The thought was just as crushing as the combined exertion of Ashton's words and actions had been, but the all-consuming pain that he felt was already at its highest setting, leaving him feeling more numb than anything else. "I thought that's what you didn't want. It's what you've been fighting against this whole time.. Now you just want me to go? Just like that?"

Ashton: It was exactly what he had been needing to hear for such a long time now, but it was like a void in his stomach that he could feel when he knew what he was going to have to do. It went against all that he'd been feeling prior to everything now, but it was something he had to do for his own reasoning that he was prepared to explain just yet. With one confession finally being told, it was now his turn to give Luke his own. "I know it was a long time coming for what you've said, but what I need to tell you isn't quite like that, trust me." During times of having to deal with the anger he's felt this time that transitioned into time being spent with another friend, Ashton found himself getting closer to said person, causing him to feel the need to have more time. "There are things that I'm going to do for myself before I can allow myself to fully come to terms and forgive for what's happened, and that's why I've been spending a lot of time with.. with Louis, actually. And it's a matter of how close we've gotten that makes me have to tell you that I can't be with you." It was the words that felt like acid in his throw and vinegar in his mouth, but it was the truth that both of them would have to understand.

Luke: This was wrong, it wasn't the direction that this scene in their lives was supposed to go in, and the longer that Ashton spoke, the more it became alarmingly clear that they weren't reading from the same script, but no matter how long Luke stayed silent in hopeful anticipation, he knew that there was nobody there to yell cut. No one to redirect how he envisioned it playing out. It was just the two of them in another temporary hotel room that suddenly felt permanently devoid of life. "What do you mean how close you've gotten? What does that have to do with us? You just said that you knew that we belonged together." They were the questions that stationed themselves at the forefront of his mind, but deep down he knew that he already had the answers, it was just a matter of hearing them for himself. It was more masochistic than productive to receive them, it's not like it would change anything other than the height of his pain, but maybe that's what he deserved.

Ashton: Though it was confusion that first settled within the mind of the drummer that was standing in front of the boy who has just made the confession that he's been wanting to hear since the very beginning of everything, it all still clicked together within him what Luke was trying to say even if his face had yet to show it to the other. He wanted to take his time to think over what he could possibly say in response to this, but it didn't take long before his mouth went faster than his mind, his lips speaking from his heard instead of his head. "There was nothing in this world that you could have ever done to make me not want to stay by your side through every moment spent on this earth, Luke. You knew that from the start, and I could never make you think otherwise. Though there was a bad moment with us, I never stopped believing that it'd get back on track, and I knew you'd realize that, too. Just like you have now." With all emotion and feeling and nothing hard about either of them sliding out of his own lips, Ashton's hand took the next step by reaching forward to grab onto Luke's to tug him closer. "I've known what the truth is, no matter how much sight disappeared for a moment there, and I knew you would eventually."

Luke: The loud, resounding beat of his pounding heart mocked the seconds of silence that tortuously ticked by while waiting for words that he wasn't even certain would be delivered to come through. Naive expectations had hitched a ride on the adrenaline that had urged him to make the visit in the first place, but no matter the outcome, the decision to go to the drummer with the truth was one that would hold no regret. That moment that Ashton finally spoke was one that Luke knew would have a permanent place among his memories, because it was the longest duration of time that he had ever held his breath out of water. Momentarily, his heart had stopped with his breathing, falling into silent sync while Ashton's own heart took the floor. Without even a hint of sound outside of the older boy's unsurprisingly smooth voice, it was easy to focus on what exactly it was that he was being told, and as each syllable left Ashton's mouth it soothed individual waves of emotions on its way out. "I'm sorry. I know you deserve more than that, and I'm willing to give you everything to prove that I am, but I need to start there with those words, because they're long overdue. Just like that confession was."

Luke: "Sometimes it takes shit going south to see who's left after the rubble when there's no longer anything obstructing the view. I might've lost sight but you never left my side, not even once. I know now it's because it's where you belong and I want to be where I do. With you." Those were the unrehearsed words that spilled forth in disarray from lips that had grown estranged from the tightly locked set that belonged to the boy that stood before him. The one who undoubtedly had a whirlwind of inescapable emotions that could have rivaled Luke's own brewing storm, understandably, which is why he had come to the older male in the first place, to clear the air. As well as his guilt ridden conscience that refused to grant him a moment of reprieve until what was unnecessarily broken was necessarily repaired.

aight, so i dunno what the deal is with the insect squad this year but i’m not exactly a massive fan of them and their need to creep into my house late at night and make me chase ‘em around when all i’m ready to do is crash. like no joke, i think in the span of 4 days there’s been 2 crickets, a stink bug, 3 june bugs and i think what you call an american salmonfly ? i wouldn’t even recommend looking it up .. unless you into the whole concept of bugs looking like they’re part dinosaur. just know it looked like it could straight up decapitate me if it wanted to. in conclusion: they all need to stay in their lanes ‘cause i’m not ready for it to be revealed to the world that i was murdered by creepy insects.
