Christmas Tips and Tricks
Christmas is right around the corner and with it come trees and ribbons and ornaments and lights and oh goodness all of the things. So we are sharing a few tips and tricks for this Christmas season. Enjoy.
Decorating your tree:
Fluff the tree by fanning each branch out. Start from the bottom and work your way to the top.
Tumblr media
Hanging your tree lights while lit will help ensure the lights are evenly spread out.
Tumblr media
As you decorate. Step back from the tree regularly. This will help you see any large gaps.
Tumblr media
Decorating your table:
Create height and interest with your dinnerware, candles and decorations. You can use cake stands, chopping boards, glasses etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When decorating work from the centre outwards, starting with your tallest item in the centre.
Tumblr media
Choice a colour and theme for your table. This could be your traditional red and green or you could go with gold or silver. Or go right outside the box and choose pinks and blues?
Tumblr media
Decorating your gifts:
Add an instant fresh scent to your gifts by tying on a cinnamon stick or foliage from your garden. This will make an instant impression.
Tumblr media
You can always pick up a few extra ornaments to add a touch of fun to your presents.
Tumblr media
Add a second layer of different wrapping paper over half the present with some brown paper. Simple yet very effective way to wrap your gifts.

Chocolate Ripple Cake
Chocolate ripple cake is an absolute tradition during the Christmas season. It’s incredibly simple and one of the best things you will ever ever eat, trust me on this one. In this recipe the whipped cream is infused with brandy! Get excited.
Tumblr media
The magic happens when you refrigerate overnight after putting it altogether. The chocolate biscuits will slowly soak up the cream and become soft and fluffy, just like the inside of a chocolate cake.
There is lots of different ways to assemble your cake. In this recipe it’s created in a wreath shape for some festive fun.
Tumblr media
There is also many different ways to decorate your cake. Here are a few toppings that you can use:
Fresh fruit such as berries, cherries, kiwi, passionfruit
Chocolate shavings
Peppermint crisp chocolate bar – crushed or grated
Homemade cookies.
Any sweet delicious thing you desire really, this cake is super versatile!
INGREDIENTS
BRANDY CREAM
·       600 ml thickened cream + extra if needed
·       2 tsp caster sugar
·       2 tsp vanilla bean extract
·       3–4 Tbsp Brandy, (optional and can be omitted from this recipe)
CAKE
·       2 packets choc ripple biscuits*
·       Decoration:
·       Optional – decorated gingerbread cookies**
Tumblr media
INSTRUCTIONS
BRANDY CREAM
In a large mixing bowl, add thickened cream, sugar and vanilla. Using an electric hand beater, beat until just combined.
Add in Brandy, 1 tablespoon at a time until desired flavour, I used 4-5 tablespoons. Continue to whip cream on medium-high until firm peaks.
CAKE
On a large round plate or serving platter, create a large circle by carefully dolloping a little of the whipped cream, to create the round wreath shape. NOTE: following the circular rim of a round plate helps.
Pick up 1 biscuit and spread approx. 1 heaped tablespoon of cream onto one side. Stand biscuit upright on it’s edge onto the cream base.
Pick up another biscuit and sandwich it against the first biscuit, so the cream is sandwiched in the middle of the 2 biscuits.
Pick up a third biscuit, spread 1 heaped tablespoon of cream onto one side and sandwich it against the second biscuit.
Repeat the above method, moving and sandwiching the biscuits along the circle of cream, creating a large wreath. Use up all biscuits until the 2 ends join and it’s a full circle cake, ensuring there is enough cream leftover to cover the entire cake.
Take remaining cream, dollop and spread over the entire cake, to enclose the biscuits in cream. NOTE: if at this point you have ran out of cream, simply whip up some more (enough to cover cake) with the brandy cream ingredients.
Once cake is all covered, you can loosely cover it with plastic wrap or leave it uncovered and place it in the refrigerator to set overnight. NOTE: cake must be refrigerated overnight as this time will allow the cream to soak into the biscuits and create a cake-like texture. You can remove it the next day or before serving and dollop more whipped cover the parts where the choc biscuits have soaked through to the surface.
DECORATION
Before serving you can decorate your wreath cake with either gingerbread cookies or fresh fruit such as berries, cherries, kiwi or passionfruit.
Serve and enjoy!

BLOOMS
The change of season is upon us and the sense of sun and warmth is in the air. And it feels glorious. The chill of the air is no longer cutting through us and a t-shirt can be worn outside. Good times are upon us, with the sun making an appearance. It’s time to think about Summer flowers and Spring is the perfect time to plant some for Summer colour.
Tumblr media
Lily Bulbs
Lilies come in a variety of types and colours, these are bulbs that you can plant now and can have bloom throughout the summer. Lily bulbs can be left in the ground and don’t need to be dug up in the Autumn and should come back a year to year and multiply to give you more and more blooms each year.
Tumblr media
Gladiolus bulbs
Gladiolus or “Glads” as a lot of people call them are another type of bulb that when planted in Spring will give you beautiful colorful flowers throughout the summer.
Tumblr media
Calla Lily BULBS
They come in a variety of colours, are pretty hardy, can be planted in sun to partial shade and look great in bouquets!
Tumblr media
Dahlias
They will continuously bloom from mid-late summer and are a pretty hardy flower that will last for a good week and a half in a vase.
Tumblr media
Peonies
Peonies like full sun to partial sun and I have never had any trouble getting them to grow in a partially shaded area as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Begonias
They can be planted in sun or shade, work well for indoor or outdoor planting and would do well in pots.

Tumblr media
HOW TO MAKE ASPARAGUS PASTA SALAD
This pasta salad is healthy, hearty, full of texture & flavour, and is perfect for sharing or eating all by yourself. Requiring only one pot to cook the pasta and asparagus.
Tumblr media
METHOD
Cook pasta + asparagus. Start by cooking the pasta according to package instructions, adding the asparagus 3 minutes before pasta is done so it will gently blanch. Asparagus is done when it brightens in colour. Drain and rinse the pasta and asparagus under cool running water. Set aside.
Make pasta salad dressing. In a small bowl, whisk together the oil, lemon, Dijon mustard, garlic, salt and pepper.
Assemble pasta salad. Add the pasta and asparagus back to the pot it was cooked in, add the onion and sun-dried tomatoes, and pour the dressing over top.
Mix well to combine, serve as is or chill in the refrigerator until ready to enjoy!
You can also add shallots, bacon, corn, carrot, capsicum, whatever—make it colourful.
