Understood... Mikasa.
Tumblr media
Hello!! This piece of writing is inspired by @rivaille-13’s post about Antique’s Memorial Levi standee merch, specifically his last words to Mikasa, “Understood, Mikasa.”
Thank you for posting this! ❤️ My heart was feeling the Rivamika feels and it gave me inspiration to write something on a whim. 🤗
—————————————
The air hung heavy as Levi’s final decision turned concrete, the next words leaving his mouth.
“I’ll slash away at the Titan. You draw it’s attention.” he ordered, already mentally analyzing his plan of attack, and the moment when the tip of his blades pierced into the Female Titan’s skin.
“Getting Eren back is our one and only goal. Do as I say. You got that... Eren’s friend?”
Levi narrowed his gaze to the raven-haired girl, waiting for confirmation on her end, and his gaze landed on her face. Behind the wisps of black strands, he could detect the flicker of hesitation in her eyes as they met his own, as if doubting his ability to execute an effective attack, despite being a high-ranking captain. It wouldn’t be surprising, as she had already insinuated that he failed to protect Eren from the beginning.
But then, something hardened in her gaze, a dead-set resolve burning in her storm grey eyes, that even had his chest stir in such an intense yet foreign way.
Finally, her lips parted in a breath, words falling in a steady tone.
“Yes, sir.”
At this very moment, setting aside her bitter animosity and intense hostility towards him, she would follow his command. She would trust in his word, in him.
With his best efforts to ignore the faint throbbing in his chest, Levi returned his vision to the front, honing his attention on the Female Titan again. The bastard was making her way through the thickly shaded forest, with Eren trapped in her mouth— dead or not... he did not know.
His memory suddenly flashed to that day, the day in the courtroom. Long-standing judgment and debates. Eren’s fate as a soldier to humanity. Eren and this intriguing girl…
Ah. That’s right.
Mikasa.
That was her name. It suddenly dawned on him. A name to match her face now. He could never forget the dark glare that screamed murder.
But... there was also raw pain behind her hostility, he could see it in her eyes. For reasons unknown, Eren was clearly someone very dear to her; it didn't take one long to tell that there was a strong need to protect and care that ran deep in her blood. He had already seen her lose control of her emotions the moment someone close and dear to her heart is in harm or danger.
He very well knew what that feeling was like.
Eren… dead or not, he did not know. An inkling of guilt found its way inside him, guilt at seeing what the possibility of Eren’s death did to this girl.
The what if’s hovered in the back of his mind. Could he have done something different to change the outcome? Could he have done more to ensure Eren’s safety? To avoid causing more pain and grief for this girl?
But no, he can’t think about the what if’s now. He has to focus on what’s already happened without regrets and go from there.
I will, no... he thought. We will get him back… Mikasa.
—————————————
In the throes of the final battle, their final decision hung heavier than the smoke and ashes in the suffocating air.
Eyes closed, Mikasa inhales and exhales slowly. Finally, she opens them, her unwavering storm grey eyes reflecting her iron-will resolve and determination.
“I’ll do it.” she declares, her voice more clear and steady than ever, “Everyone back me up.”
Levi knew the decision wasn’t easy for her, for any one of them… but they were left with no other choices. They were the only ones left who can kill Eren.
As Falco neared the massive skeletal form of Eren, with Armin doing his best to restrain him, the duo jumped in mid-air, weapons drawn and ready to bring it all to an end.
Precious seconds seemed to tick away, as Levi watched Mikasa from behind, charging forward with everything she had, betting everything in this final blow. The grip on her blade precise and firm. Her back poised strong and steady. The strands of her raven hair flickering in the wild wind.
She was truly breathtaking. A vision of everything he knew she could be capable of one day.
He had watched her grow all these years. Years of pain and suffering that should’ve broken and damaged her to ruins, should’ve ruthlessly scarred her beyond the exterior of her skin, until the point of no return.
But no. She is standing. She is still goddamn standing. The years only aided in shaping her to become the very person she was at this moment. She overcame everything that was meant to destroy her, kept fighting and surviving. When no one else could keep going, she could.
Mikasa was strong. Stronger than the rest of them, stronger than him.
And pride.
So much immense pride swelled in his chest, deep respect and admiration for her.
Yes. It was high time he put his complete and full trust in her. This time, it would be different.
He would take her orders now.
He would follow her lead in battle.
Throughout the grueling battle, a nagging pain accompanied his leg, a tortuous throbbing of his exhausted body. He was at his limit but if he didn’t keep up, if he didn’t keep moving, he would be killed. He was so tired— so goddamn tired...
But in this very moment, he felt an immense surge of strength and energy. Adrenaline coursing through his veins in all its intensity. He felt alive. Awakened.
That was simply what Mikasa did to him. Kept him feeling alive, awakened and so... so much more.
It was set in stone. He would take her orders; he would follow her lead. He would not let her go through this battle alone, just like how she’s been there for him all this time. Whatever she needed, he would give. And right now… she needed him to have her back.
“Understood... Mikasa.”
His steel blue eyes were set with a fierce determination, something unstoppable burning inside him. And he knows. He knows he will continue to keep on fighting and living, as long as she was by his side.
I’m with you. Completely and always.

The fact that we never even asked for a romantic connection for rivamika and we were given hints shows that platonic rivamika has way more for readers to unpack than em… platonic rivamika has helped the story as well as mikasa develop than her relationship with eren… let me repeat again, Levi and mikasa’s relationship is extremely crucial to the story and it would’ve made sense, all the time Levi tried to help her would’ve made sense IF mikasa had moved on from eren but because isa didn’t make that happen, Levi’s part in mikasa’s life has been wasted and that’s why isayama decreased their interactions… that’s what I figured it’s sad really. It’s like isayama was beading a necklace but forgot to tie the ends together, therefore the beads fell apart from the lace, leaving only two individual items that make no sense unless put together. That’s what Levi and mikasa became in the end to each other.
Adding to @gilly-bj ‘s post about mikasa btw 🥰

I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:
IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.
1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.
2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.
3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”
4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”
5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.
TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.
Reblog this to keep other users aware. Suicide isn’t a joke, and neither is someone’s life. If you didn’t know this, someone else may not, either. Pass it on.

Chapter 138 Thoughts
My major issue with chapter 138 is how clumsily Isayama  handled the topic of genocide (AGAIN). Isayama kept pushing the narrative that genocide was the only plausible option for Eren when it clearly and logically wasn’t! Here again we have Eren talk AGAIN about how genocide was the only option he had, have a bittersweet romantic scene with Mikasa and get a goodbye kiss! Of course many readers felt sympathy for Eren in this chapter including myself ( lol) when we were supposed to feel happy and relieved that he was finally gone. I haven’t felt sympathy for Eren for a very long time and then BOOM! I actually felt bad for the guy when I wasn’t supposed to. This is the same man that we saw kill millions of innocent people just few chapters ago. We are feeling sympathy for a man who killed children because the narrative forced us to.
Eren’s actions should have been deemed awful, horrendous and evil and that’s it! FULL STOP! If we are going to have a manga that deals with heavy and sensitive topics such as racism and genocide, we should deal with it more responsibly as both writers and readers. Millions of innocent people have been affected by warfare and genocide around the world. Imagine someone who has been affected by the horrors of genocide and war and then went on to read AoT to find out that many readers view Eren as a hero and are quick to excuse his actions because he just wanted to protect his friends/Mikasa.
Believe it or not, there are people who view Hitler in a positive light, assuming that he was a moderate politician trying to make the best of Germany’s bad situation. If you read Mein Kampf, or anything about the psychology and philosophy of evil, you will find out that even the devil thinks he’s justified. And justifications can be made on and on. Unfortunately, after this chapter, fans, who weren’t even in favor of the Rumbling, were quick to excuse Eren’s actions or try make him less morally culpable. There are also fans who thought it was romantic!! ughhh
Remember that genocide was, is and will always be unjustifiable and we should not sympathize with the perpetrators (no matter what their reasons are). We should never internalize the argument. Remember that there are real people who were and still are affected by genocide and having a narrative that makes sympathize with a genocider is NOT ok.
I honestly don’t blame anyone who sympathizes with Eren or excuse his actions; I just believe that Isayama should have handled it better lol

But think about this. years ago Levi saw firsthand how reckless Mikasa acted even putting herself in danger when it came to Eren and protecting him. Levi even got injured because of her impulsiveness.
Now at the end of everything he’s seeing her finally choosing to kill Eren regardless of her feelings in order to save what’s left of humanity. She asks for his help and he quickly agrees to help her, trusting her to deal the killing blow.
Levi knows how painful this decision is for Mikasa, he is aware that her relationship with Eren is very deep but I bet he understands why she feels like she has to be the one to kill Eren herself.
Levi saw Mikasa’s growth throughout the years
