God Hong Lu's backstory hits impossibly hard.

Though honestly it hits harder when you sort of think about what these Beastmen are...

They are described as having very active reproduction, and also very violent.

and the animal they're beastmen of?

Cuckoo Birds.

Cuckoo Birds force their offspring onto others.

I really feel like this is the first time Project Moon really intimately touched on themes of SA, and it really hits hard. I think the sheer brutality of it all makes it feel well handled. Like. This is the greatest violation anybody can experience. An awful, awful horror.

and doubly so, it feels like themes of CSA are explored here. I will never forget how Jia Huan was just... crying, shaking, completely ruined, clearly violated by what happened, and some of his final words are "Am... am I going to die? I don't want to...", moments before what was forced inside him aggressively burst out.

and also, this extends to Hong Lu as well. Unblinkingly, he was forced to watch every second of it. Every detail. Likely just because again, Children are viewed as mere objects to adults. He is likely linked to the elders, and the elders delight this sight of mass death and defilement. The hopelessness brings them unspeakable joy.

and also. God the aftermath... the way it's like "You can never speak of this to anyone", the way Jia Xichun is like, how an actual kid should be, full of optimism, and the will to play that matches up with a very young child. Then you see Baoyu, who was violated in such a way... Xichun could never have known. She was just a baby. The way she asks why Baoyu won't play with her though... god that destroys me. It speaks to how such a violation completely, and truly ruined him.

Honestly this story hits me so hard. Makes me revaluate all other children in PM narratives as well. Instead of glancing over them, I feel compassion for them, for children do not deserve this, and I also feel no mercy for their abusers.

Children are so overlooked. Objectified. Ignored. The world does not show enough compassion towards them. So much anger. So many ways a child can be ruined...

It all hits hard. It is heartbreaking what happened to Baoyu. I am glad he's finally on his way to healing, but judging by the ages listed, it took him over 20 years...

Poor Baoyu...

Special place in hell for people who manipulate and abuse children like Jia Mu did.
