it's no secret that jaehyun's a fan of anime, that he enjoys lying in bed and spending hours upon hours just watching a show. he's got a list of favourite characters as well, and he doesn't shy away from sharing it. having to prepare for the family concert though, has meant a lot more time being put into not looking like a complete idiot on stage, and a lot less time being able to watch his favourite shows. which is fine. really. it's not like jaehyun's going through any withdrawals, and he's actually been taking it a lot more better than he thought he would.

that is of course, until he sees daeul dressed the way that he is.

"oh," he says again, and he has to blink a few times to make sure that his eyes aren't playing tricks on him. for a moment he thinks he sees a glimpse of one of the protagonists in a manga he was currently reading. "daeul, is that you?" he walks towards his friend and then gently pats daeul's face without so much as a warning. "have you always been so heroic?" he asks, the lack of sleep now slowly getting to him.

sweaty palms, knees weak, arms heavy – jaehyun thinks that he finally understands what eminem had been rapping about in that one song. because he can't quite get a hold of himself, and he feels a little bit silly, standing there with a kuromi card holder hidden behind his back.

if someone had told him that he would be in the same company as his future dreams pick a few years ago, he would've simply told them to use all their free time streaming fabula songs instead. but here he was, really, like actually, in the same company as april. april! hayoung! he feels dizzy.

maybe he shouldn't have done this. maybe waiting around for fabula to finish up their rehearsals with his kuromi cardholder in hand wasn't a good idea. perhaps he would've been better off trying to strike up a conversation elsewhere, by pretending to accidentally bump into her. right, right, okay. maybe... – but then he sees her. his idol. and immediately his eyes brighten, like the starstruck fool that he is. he brings his kuromi cardholder close to his chest and after attempting to gain as much confidence as possible, he walks over to her.

be calm, be calm, be calm, be – "s-s...sunbae!" he manages to say, and he's honestly just thankful that he hadn't melted into a pile of goo right there and then. he brings his kuromi cardholder up, and in it, is an april pc. not just any average april pc, but a rarity – one that could easily sell for a large sum ( and one that jaehyun had actually bought for a large sum ). "uhm, i don't know if you remember... but that time, you said you would sign a photocard for me... so uhm, well i," he fumbles with his words, it's hard to act cool and collected in front of someone you really like. "i picked out one of my favourite photocards of you – not that there's any photocard of you that i don't like! i think they're all great! – ... but this is my favourite! and well, i brought a marker and uhm..." he takes in a deep breath, realizing now that he hasn't even been able to look her in the eye. too much eye contact and he think he might faint. "would it be too much... if i asked you to sign this... please?"

1. literally only joined lgc university because a cute girl in high school that he had a crush on kept bringing it up as her dream school. funnily enough, jaehyun was able to pass the admission but she never did 💔 oh well

2. once tried to sneak a cat back into his dorms because he caught it shivering in the rain on the way back from work. he was able to get away with it for one week, but was caught eventually. the cat now stays with his dad and he's decided to name it "panda" (after the jjk character)

3. is usually seen around campus with his sony headphones. it usually doesn't have any battery though, he mostly wears it for aesthetic purposes. they fit his vibe.

it sort of feels like a pattern at this point. jaehyun going up to jungmo at the end of a day filled with training, with nothing but a spare can of sprite that he almost always offers his friend. followed by a loud groan, a sigh, and a complaint about being called out for his less than spectacular skills.

it's not like he's a terrible singer. it's just that he can't hit a note and he knows it frustrates the trainers. he's more of a rapper anyway! if you count speed-talking rapping.

he shrugs and slumps against the lockers. "sometimes i wish my ears would get stung by a bee, just so i can block out the nagging," he sighs, but of course he doesn't mean it. it'd probably hurt, a lot. and jaehyun isn't too fond of pain.

"anyway, it's sunday tomorrow. you wanna stay up and rewatch the jujutsu kaisen movie?" see, there were many ways that jaehyun could've chosen to unwind and relax, to take his mind off the criticisms he'd been faced with. his favourite way though, was through watching animated movies. over and over. even if it meant dragging jungmo along.
