Keep Watching, seriously thats exactly how i felt when i watched the first few episodes. But honestly it gets better, by episode 6 you will be hooked

I don't get why Americans are fascinated by apparent 'hunky British people' there is nothing special about an over exaggerated British person in a US TV show. It's just standard now.he is not more appealing than any of the other guys on the show because he is British. I bet everytime I watch the show when he is in it, I will cringe...

I think people are genuinely retarded when it comes to their reasons to hate Shane. He is the only character in the whole show this is believably. I am sorry but I do not believe that in a zombie apocalypse, people would give much moral and through to their actions. I hated Rick early on in the show as his character was so unbelievable. I don't believe many people after going through what he did, that they would have that much moral high ground. Going back for Merel and risking his life (after just reuniting with his family) was the dumbest thing on the show. He doesn't protect his own but rather seeks the approval of everyone else. Shane on the other hand first and foremost protects the only two he truly cares about. If it were me my family would come above everyone else also, I would help whomever I could as long as it wasn't putting the ones I loved at risk. So hands down Shane wins for me. Plus if he ws really that bad a guy he would have overthrown the farm and told Herschel where to go. The camp could have very easily taken over that farm. Think about it.....

But really,

Why do people hate him [Shane Walsh]?

Because he fell in love with his best friend’s wife? Did you forget he only saved her because that was his best friend? Forgive him for falling in love with the only person he had left from his normal life. Maybe if she hasn’t toyed with his emotions, slept with him because she was bored, and then just cut him out of her life when her husband reappeared… he’d be sane. She owes Shane an explanation or at least her friendship. I’m not saying Lori can’t sleep with whomever she wants for whatever reason she has, but this isn’t Shane’s fault.

We hate Shane because he killed Otis? He made a decision. Either he died with Otis and as a result Carl died; or, he sacrificed Otis and saved Carl. As a side note, had he not come back, no one would have probably gotten through to Andrea and she would have somehow off’ed herself.

We hate Shane because he smashed through the barn? He only did so after he found out Lori was pregnant and that for her health and [his] child’s health they could not afford to leave the farm. Afterwards, Shane also spoke to Carl, and Carl expressed his desires to wholeheartedly stay and look for Sophia. As Shane had said, if they stayed they needed to clear the barn for safety reasons; if not, they had to leave. Seeing how Lori needed to and Carl wanted to stay; Shane did what he had to do in order to ensure their safety. Shane’s only drive is to protect them; and as a result of this, protect the group.

We hate Shane because he accepted the idea that Sophia was dead? He is a cop. 72 hours after a child goes missing the child is dead; it’s statistics. Everyone else didn’t want to accept reality. In the same note, Shane didn’t want to go back for Merle. Well Merle was antagonistic, looked for what he got, endangered the group, and going back into ATL was unsafe. If Rick hasn’t taken all the men and guns, Amy might have survived; the group would have been better prepared for the Walker attack.

Shane has paternal-alpha male-protective instincts. Anything for Carl and Lori. He’s saved everyone multiple times. He took care of Carol and Sophia by kicking Ed’s ass while everyone else did nothing. He trained Andrea and Carl to shoot. He makes the hard decisions, that everyone eventually realizes were needed [T-dog and Andrea realized the barn would have been overrun. Sophia was dead. He saved Carl. Merle was a drug dealer that would have gotten them kicked out of Hershel’s farm.] and in the end, no one is grateful and hates him for it.

He is the moral scapegoat everyone needs in order to feel humane during the apocalypse. He is love used and discarded. He is a voice of reason. He is a man who goes crazy because he cares so much and no one cares about him, and because he is truly alone.

Shane Walsh is a tragic hero. He is the only truly complex character in TWD tv series. (Darryl is great too but the show hasn’t revolved around him as much.)
