History
Old Bridge Township in New Jersey has a rich culture and history. Originally, it is called as Madison Township but it was changed to Old Bridge after voters agreed to change its name to avoid confusion with Madison in Morris County. The first settlers in the area were the Lenape Native Americans and they called themselves as Unami which means people down the river. Thomas Warne is one of the earliest landowners and called their land Brownville which today, makes up what is known as the Browntown. Old Bridge’s economy was fueled by old mill streams, clay industry, and apple farms. Today, Old Bridge is one of the populous municipalities of the state with over 70,0000 people living in town.

An Old Bridge man who formerly worked as a Newark police officer has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for soliciting and accepting cash payments from a Newark brothel owner in exchange for protecting the brothel from law enforcement. Julio I. Rivera, 52, was sentenced Wednesday in Newark federal court to 46 months in state prison after previously pleading guilty to two counts of bribery and aiding and assisting in the preparation of a 2015 false personal federal tax return,   Read more here.
It’s so sad that for $40,000 to $95,000, the life of a police officer will change forever. The bribery case against Rivera should be a wake-up call to all those in authority to be trustworthy and loyal to their oath of office. Money come and go but a ruined reputation remains for life. For sure, Julio Rivera is deeply regretting his past actions. We only hope that after serving his sentence, he will be able to start a new life. For the police officers who are still into illegal works, change your ways now before it is too late. May the case of Rivera be a warning that no one is above the law.
