Season 1 Episode 9: Holiday Disaster

Derek and Casey head home for the holiday. Little do they know, there are problems they’re expected to solve.

-EPISODE START-

*Casey at a diner late at night, studying* *she’s leaning her head on her hand, elbow resting on the table, and she’s falling asleep*

*Ashton is lovingly watching her, smiling*

*suddenly, fingers appear and snap in front of her face, then Derek comes into frame and slides into the booth next to her*

Derek: “Hey, sleepyhead.”

Casey: *jumps awake* *looks at him, angry* “Der-ek!”

Derek: *mocking* “Cas-ey!”

Ashton: *annoyed, passive-aggressive* “Oh, great. For a second, I thought I would get to go the whole day without seeing you.” *checks watch* “But it looks like you just made it.”

Derek: *sarcastic, smiles* “Nice to see you, Allen.”

Ashton: *ignores him, looks at Casey* “I’ll get another pot of coffee.”

Derek: *watches him get out of earshot, turns back to Casey* “Ya know, I think he actually hates me more than you do.”

Casey: *watching Ashton, confused* “I know, right?”

Derek: “What have you been telling him about me?”

Casey: “Honestly-” *looks at Derek* “-not nearly enough.”

-THEME PLAYS-

*Casey against a blue background*

Casey: “Going home for the holidays is supposed to be relaxing. It’s supposed to feel like a break from the chaos. But in my family?” *rolls her eyes, smiles*

*scene change: Queens quad*

*Casey and Ashton are standing in the quad facing each other*

Ashton: “I’m going to miss you.”

Casey: *smiles* “I’m going to miss you too.”

Ashton: “I’ll call you every night.” *leans in to kiss her*

*Casey starts to lean in as well, but before their lips connect-*

Derek: “Time to go!” *speed-walks past Ashton and Casey, putting his arm around her and pulling her with him away from Ashton*

Ashton: *annoyed, sighs as he watches Derek pull her away* “Bye, Casey.”

Casey: *looks a bit relieved, but turns and smiles at him as she’s walking* “Bye!”

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Casey and Derek laying in recliners, wearing robes and with avocado face masks and cucumbers over their eyes - relaxing*

*scene change: McDonald-Venturi household - entryway*

*Derek and Casey enter through the front door, holding duffle bags*

Derek: *shouting* “Guess who’s home!”

Marti: *appears, running down the stairs* “Smerek!”

Derek: *throws his bag down, opens his arms* “Smarti!”

*Marti runs into his arms and he picks her up and spins her around*

Casey: *feigns being offended as she watches them* “Marti, I’m here too!”

Marti: *glances over at her, still in Derek’s arms* “Oh, hi, Casey.”

Casey: *scoffs, a bit offended*

*suddenly, Lizzie and Edwin appear from upstairs*

Edwin: “Hey, bro! Long time, no see!” *walks up to Derek*

Derek: *sets Marti down, then fist bumps Edwin* “Hey, Ed.”

*Casey watches the exchange between Derek and Edwin, then turns to Lizzie*

Casey: *jaw drops* “Lizzie, is that you?”

Lizzie: *annoyed, rolls her eyes* “Obviously.”

Casey: *shocked* “What happened?”

Lizzie: “I changed my look.”

Casey: “Yeah, I can see that.”

Lizzie: *crosses her arms over her chest* “You don’t like it?”

Casey: *lost for words* “Um… uh…”

Lizzie: “Ugh!” *angry, storms up the stairs*

Casey: “Wait, Lizzie!” *starts running up the stairs after her*

Derek: *laughs, watching them* *then turns back to Edwin, still smiling*

Edwin: “I actually have to talk to you about something too.”

Derek: *smile disappears*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Derek and Casey are still relaxing - Lizzie and Edwin show up. Lizzie takes one of the cucumbers from Casey’s eyes and Edwin taps Derek on the shoulder. Derek removes the cucumbers from his eyes and Casey removes the other from hers. They look at Lizzie and Edwin and then at each other, concerned*

*scene change: Venturi-McDonald household - hallway outside of Derek and Casey’s bedrooms*

*simultaneously, both doors open, and we hear Lizzie and Edwin both yell “Get out!” as Casey and Derek are shoved into the hallway from the two separate rooms*

Casey and Derek simultaneously: *yells through the door* “It’s my room!”

Lizzie and Edwin simultaneously : *heard through door* “Go away!”

Derek: *looks over at Casey* “No luck?”

Casey: *looks over at him, saddened* “She won’t even talk to me.”

Derek: “Edwin won’t stop talking. About his feelings.” *looks disgusted*

Casey: “What kinds of feelings?”

Derek: *nonchalant* “I dunno. I wasn’t listening.”

Casey: *rolls eyes, then gets an idea* “Wait. What if I talk to Edwin and you talk to Lizzie?” *points at him*

Derek: *unconvinced* “What am I supposed to say to Lizzie?”

Casey: *exasperated* “I don’t know! She’s being all angsty!”

Derek: *groans* “Fine.”

*Derek and Casey walk past each other, stop at the opposite’s bedroom door - they look at each other and nod before entering the respective rooms*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Casey fighting with Lizzie, Derek fighting with Edwin - Marti appears in a fairy outfit, waves her wand, and makes Derek and Casey switch places. Casey and Edwin shake hands, Lizzie and Derek high-five*

*scene cuts to Casey’s bedroom - Derek enters*

Derek: “Hey, kiddo.” *closing Casey’s door behind him, looking a bit unsure*

Lizzie: *looking at him from Casey’s bed, where she’s sitting with her legs stretched out in front of her* “What are you doing here?”

Derek: “Just… hanging out with my favorite little sister.” *chuckles, awkward*

Lizzie: “Isn’t-” *smiles teasingly* “-Casey your favorite ‘little sister’?” *air quotes*

Derek: *scoffs* “Casey’s not my sister.”

Lizzie: *raises her eyebrows, smirks*

Derek: *looks down, then back up at Lizzie* “But she did ask me to come talk to you.”

Lizzie: *confused* “Why would she send you?”

Derek: “Probably because she knows I’m way cooler than her.” *sits on bed* “Plus, I’m in a punk rock band, remember?”

Lizzie: *smiles, chuckles* “D-Rock is still together?”

Derek: *thinks for a second* “We might be on a hiatus.”

Lizzie: *smiles, chuckles*

Derek: “So, what’s up?”

Lizzie: *sighs* “Nobody likes the way I dress or my hair or the music I listen to. Or my new friends.”

Derek: “And that’s a problem?”

Lizzie: “Well, yeah. I don’t want the family to be disappointed in me.”

Derek: *chuckles* “It’ll be pretty difficult to beat me at that game. Listen, Lizzie. As long as you’re happy, the family will be happy for you.”

Lizzie: “You really think so?”

Derek: “I know so. And if they aren’t? Then that’s their problem.”

Lizzie: *smiles* “Thanks, Derek.” *opens her arms to hug him*

Derek: *stands up from the bed* “Yeah, I don’t hug. Sorry, Liz.”

Lizzie: *drops arms, chuckles*

*scene change: Derek’s bedroom*

*Edwin is sitting on the side of Derek’s bed, Casey sitting in his desk chair, facing him*

Casey: *smiling excitedly* “I heard you wanted to talk about your feelings.”

Edwin: * “You are way too excited about this.”

Casey: *takes a deep breath* “Okay, toning it down. Now tell me about your feelings.”

Edwin: *sighs* “I’ve been talking to Paul-”

Casey: *cuts him off, excited again* “You’re talking to Paul?”

Edwin: “Yeah, but he’s not nearly as helpful as you made him out to be! He won’t tell me what to do!”

Casey: “Yeah, that’s kind of his style. But he’s great - trust me.”

Edwin: *nervous* “Casey, what if I liked someone… I’m not supposed to like?”

Casey: *confused* “Not ‘supposed’ to like?”

Edwin: “Like, someone who other people wouldn’t want me to like.”

Casey: “Well-” *thinks for a second* “-if you really like them, then it shouldn’t matter what other people think.”

Edwin: “Even if it would make people angry?”

Casey: “If those people really cared about you, they would understand and want you to be happy.”

Edwin: *nods, thinking* *looks up at her and smiles* “Thanks, Casey. That was actually really good advice.”

Casey: *scoffs, fake-offended* “Don’t sound so surprised.”

Edwin: *chuckles*

Casey: *leans in* “So, who is this mystery girl?”

Edwin: *stops smiling - looks unsure* “Um…”

Casey: “C’mon, Ed. You can tell me.”

Edwin: “It’s…” *hesitates*

Casey: *scoots closer to him* “Yeah?”

Edwin: *sighs* “It’s Ronny.”

Casey: *confused* “Ronny?”

Edwin: “Ya know, Ronny. The fridge’s brother?”

Casey: *eyes widen, jaw drops* “Oh.” *shocked* “Oh.”

Edwin: *suddenly panicked* “You can’t tell Derek!”

Casey: *taken-aback* “Edwin, I won’t. But, why not?”

Edwin: “Because it’s embarrassing!”

Casey: *sighs* “Oh, Ed. I you shouldn’t be embarrassed.”

Edwin: *sighs* “I’ll tell him eventually.”

Casey: *smiles at him*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Derek and Casey shaking hands, high-fiving*

*scene change: McDonald-Venturi household - hallway outside of Derek and Casey’s bedrooms*

*Lizzie and Derek exit Casey’s room at the same time Edwin and Casey exit Derek’s room*

*Lizzie and Edwin are both smiling, and they walk toward the stairs*

*Casey and Derek stay by the doors*

Casey: *watches Lizzie walk down the stairs, relieved* “Well, she seems to be in better spirits.”

Derek: “Yeah, so does Ed.” *looks at her* “What did you say to him, anyway?”

Casey: *smirks* “It’s a secret.” *walks past Derek into her bedroom and shuts the door in his face*

Derek: *watches her, confused and intrigued* *chuckles as he turns and goes into his own bedroom*

*scene change: McDonald-Venturi household - dining room*

*the whole family is sitting at the dining room table eating dinner*

Derek: “Nora, what’s in this casserole?” *looking at a bite of casserole on his fork, unsure*

Nora: “Actually, George made the casserole.”

Derek: “That makes sense.” *puts fork down and pushes plate away* “Should we get pizza?” *looks around the table for approval*

George: *offended* “Hey! It’s not that bad!”

*Lizzie laughs at this*

Nora: *surprised* “Lizzie, you seem to be in better spirits today.”

Lizzie: “Yeah, I guess I’m just happy to have my big brother and sister home.” *smiles at Derek*

Edwin: “And to celebrate them being home-” *opens arms* “Pizza?”

George: *sighs, annoyed* “Okay, fine.”

Derek: *standing from table* “Cool! I’ll order it!”

Marti: *stands and follows Derek* “Make sure you get pepperoni!”

Casey: “Wait!” *gets up to follow them* “Shouldn’t we get a healthy option? Like vegetarian?”

Lizzie: *gets up and joins them* “Yeah, we need one without meat! Do you have any idea how problematic the meat industry is?”

Edwin: *stands and joins them* “No meat?! That’s the best part of a pizza!”

*the kids all continue to discuss pizza toppings in the living room*

Nora: *watching them, smiles* “Wow, Derek and Casey really seemed to fix everything.”

George: “I know. The kids have been acting so strange since they left. I’m glad to see everyone back to normal.”

Nora: *looks at George, raises her eyebrows*

George: “Well-” *shrugs* “-our version of normal.”

*Nora and George chuckle together*

*scene change: McDonald-Venturi household - Derek’s bedroom*

*Derek is sitting at his computer*

*the phone is sitting on Derek’s desk, and it starts ringing*

Derek: *picks up the phone* “Hello?”

Ashton’s voice on the phone: “Hello, Derek. Is Casey there?”

Derek: *smirks* *pulls phone away from mouth and yells* “Casey! Albert’s on the phone!”

Casey: *appears in his open doorway, and walks in* *grabs the phone from him, glaring* “It’s Ashton.”

Derek: *smirks*

Casey: *walks out the door, putting the phone to her ear* *still glaring at Derek* “Hi, Ashton.” *rolls her eyes* “Yeah, I miss you too.”

Derek: *chuckles as he watches her leave*

Season 1 Episode 8: For Better or For Worse

Casey is furious when Derek starts dating her boyfriend’s ex. Meanwhile, Edwin develops an unlikely crush of his own.

*scene opens on the Queens quad in winter*

*Casey and Ashton are walking together when a snowball hits her in the back*

Casey: *surprised, annoyed* “Ah!” *looks around for a culprit*

*Derek is standing nearby, pretending not to notice her*

Casey: *angry, annoyed* “Der-ek!”

Derek: *acting innocent, but smirking* “Yeah, Case?”

Casey: “You are so immature! Adults don’t start snowball fights!”

Derek: “Oh, yeah?” *smirks, challenging* “What are you gonna do about it?”

Ashton: *gives Derek a pitying expression* “She’s not going to do anything about it-”

*Casey shoves her books into Ashton’s hands*

Casey: *scooping up snow and forming a ball* “I’m going to destroy you!” *throws snowball*

Derek: *dodges snowball, chuckles* “By throwing like a girl?”

*Derek and Casey start throwing snowballs at each other - they are chasing each other, and they start laughing*

*Ashton sighs, annoyed*

*Derek runs toward her, wraps his arms around her, and tackles her into the snow*

*Casey lets out a gleeful scream*

Courtney: *smiles, devilish* “Hi, Ashton.”

*Casey looks between them, confused*

Courtney: *looks at Casey and smirks* “Who’s your little friend?”

Ashton: “This is Casey-” *puts his arm around Casey and pulls her into him* “-my girlfriend.”

Courtney: *fake-smiles* “Cute.” *glares at Ashton* “I was his girlfriend once.”

Casey: *awkward, uncomfortable* “Oh.”

Ashton: “And you’re not anymore, so move along.”

Courtney: *glares at Ashton, then looks at Casey* “Let me know if you need any tips.” *winks at Casey*

Casey: “O-okay.”

Courtney: “Bye, Ashton.” *waves flirtatiously, then walks away*

*Ashton rolls his eyes as he watches her leave*

Casey: *staring after Courtney* “That’s your ex-girlfriend?”

Ashton: “Unfortunately.”

*Casey glances at him, disbelieving*

*scene cuts to Derek, who is watching this exchange from across the quad - he smirks*

*scene change: high school - cafeteria*

*Edwin and Ronny are sitting together at lunch*

Ronny: “Here, you can have one.” *holds out cookie*

*Edwin reaches out and takes it* *their hands touch and they pause for a second and look at each other*

Edwin: “Uh-” *lets go of cookie and looks away nervously* “-I shouldn’t. I’ve been, uh, watching my figure.” *joking*

Ronny: “You look pretty good to me.” *realizes what he said, blushes* “I-I mean- that a cookie won’t hurt.”

Edwin: *blushes, looks down* “Oh, haha. Thanks, I guess.”

Edwin: “Uh-” *stands quickly* “Be right back!” *rushes out of cafeteria*

*scene change: restaurant*

*Casey and Ashton are sitting at a table facing each other - they are on a date*

Ashton: *looks over, sees something and groans* “What is he doing here?”

Casey: *looks over to where Ashton is looking, confused*

*Derek and Courtney are at a table across the room, obviously on a date*

Casey: *scoffs* “What is she doing here?”

Ashton: “Whatever.” *looks back at Casey* “Let’s just ignore them.”

Casey: *glaring at Derek and Courtney* “He’s only dating her to bother me.”

Ashton: *annoyed* “Casey, why do you care?”

Casey: *still staring at Derek and Courtney* “I don’t.”

*Ashton starts talking to Casey again, but she’s not listening*

*Derek gets up and walks toward the bathroom*

Casey: *watching Derek while Ashton talks to her* *cuts him off* “I’ll be right back.” *gets up from the table and speed-walks after him*

Derek: *surprised, taken off guard* Ah!”

Casey: *angry, accusing* “What do you think you’re doing here?”

Derek: “I was gonna take a leak.” *points to the bathroom door*

Casey: *pushes him in the chest* “You’re doing this on purpose!”

Derek: *confused, exasperated* “Doing what on purpose?”

Casey: “Dating Ashton’s ex.”

Derek: *surprise turns to amusement* *chuckles* “Casey, although I wish it had been my intention to annoy you this much, I had no idea you were going to be here.”

Casey: *glares at him*

Derek: *smirks* “Are you enjoying your date with Amber?”

Casey: *angry, through her teeth* “Ashton.”

Derek: *ignoring her* “Huh. Courtney and Casey.” *pretends to think* “They sound pretty similar, don’t they?”

Casey: “Ugh!” *turns and stomps away*

Derek: *watches her stomp away, smirks conspiratorially*

*scene change: high school - bathroom*

*Edwin bursts through the door in a panic*

Edwin: *looks at himself in the mirror, critical* “What is wrong with you? Why are you acting so weird?”

*another boy walks out of a stall, and there’s a flushing sound* *he gives Edwin a strange look before exiting the bathroom*

Edwin: *watches boy leave the bathroom* “Oh, great.”

*Edwin looks at himself in the mirror again, then groans*

*scene change: Casey’s dorm bedroom*

*Ashton and Casey are making out on her bed*

Casey: *breaks away from the kiss suddenly* “Let’s make love.”

Ashton: *raises eyebrows* “Whoa, slow down.”

Casey: “I really just want to get it over with.”

Ashton: *chuckles* “Casey, sex isn’t something you just ‘get over with’. It should be slow and sensual.”

Casey: *annoyed, passive-aggressive* “Was it slow and sensual with Courtney?”

Ashton: “Let’s not talk about her.”

Casey: “I agree. Let’s make love.” *starts to reach for him*

Ashton: “Wait.” *puts his hands on her shoulders and looks her in the eyes* “I want to do something special for you.” *smiles*

Casey: *interested* “Like what?”

Ashton: “Just trust me. You’ll never want it to end.”

Casey: *nervous* “…okay.”

*Ashton lifts the blanket and disappears beneath it*

*Casey looks nervous and uncomfortable*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Casey looks uncomfortable - she covers her face in embarrassment*

*scene change: Casey’s dorm bedroom*

*Ashton is fast asleep, and Casey wide awake* *she looks over at him, sighs, and then gets out of bed*

*the camera follows her as she quietly leaves her room and shuts the door behind her, walks to the next door and knocks*

*the door opens to Sonya, bed-headed and confused*

Sonya: “What?”

Casey: “Can I sleep in here tonight?”

Sonya: *smirks* “Are you hiding from your boyfriend?”

Casey: *sighs, shrugs*

Sonya: *smiles, opens door wider*

Casey: *walks past her into the room*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Casey hiding behind a plant and peeking out*

*scene change: Sonya’s bedroom*

*Sonya and Casey are both laying in her bed on their backs, staring at the ceiling*

Sonya: “So, what happened?”

Casey: *nervous* “What do you mean?”

Sonya: *looks over at her* “Why don’t you want to sleep next to Ashton?”

Casey: *looks at her, sighs, and then rolls onto her side so she’s facing Sonya* “Something really weird happened between us.”

Sonya: *concerned, turns onto her side facing Casey* “Weird how?”

Casey: *groans, then covers her face with her hands* “It’s too embarrassing!”

Sonya: *grabs Casey’s hands and takes them away from her face* “Tell me!”

Casey: *exasperated* “Ashton went down on me!”

Sonya: *stares at her, expectant*

Casey: “And it was… really bad.” *embarrassed*

Sonya: *bursts into giggles*

Casey: *hits her arm* “It’s not funny!”

Sonya: *still giggling* “It’s a little bit funny.”

*Casey tries to fight a smile, but she starts giggling too*

*scene ends on the two laughing together in Sonya’s bed*

*scene change: Casey’s dorm bedroom*

*Ashton wakes up in Casey’s bed and turns over to face her, but the bed is empty* *he sits up and looks around, confused* *he sighs, annoyed*

*scene change: Queen’s quad*

*Ashton is speed-walking through the quad, heading directly toward where Derek is standing with the hockey team*

*when Ashton is about 20 feet, away, he calls out to him, but continues walking toward him*

Ashton: “Derek!”

*Derek turns at his name, then looks confused when he sees Ashton*

Derek: *confused, unsure* “Uh… yeah?”

Ashton: *reaching him, angry* “Where is Casey?”

Derek: “How would I know?”

Ashton: *suspicious, accusing* “You haven’t seen her today?”

Derek: “No…” *suspicious, concerned* “Is she missing or something?”

Ashton: *annoyed* “Kinda. Her phone is in her room, but she’s nowhere to be found.”

Derek: *stares at him for a second, suspicious, and then takes his phone out and dials a number while holding eye contact*

*scene changes to Sonya sleeping - her phone begins to ring*

Sonya: *groans* *reaches for her phone and answers it with her eyes still closed, slurs words in sleep* “Hello?”

*scene changes back to Derek, who turns away from Ashton*

Derek: “Have you seen Casey?”

*scene changes back to Sonya, still without opening her eyes, pushes the phone toward Casey*

Sonya: “It’s for you.”

Casey: *rolls onto her back, confused, and takes the phone from Sonya* *groggy* “Hello?”

*scene changes back to Derek, who rolls his eyes as he hears her voice*

Derek: “Great. You’re alive.”

*scene changes back to Casey, who furrows her brow*

Casey: *confused, annoyed* “Why wouldn’t I be?”

*scene changes back to Derek*

Derek: *mocking* “Your boyfriend is worried sick.”

*scene changes back to Casey, who groans and hangs up the phone*

*scene changes back to Derek - he laughs, then puts his phone away*

Derek: *turns back to Ashton* “Try Sonya’s room.” *pats Ashton on the shoulder, condescending*

Ashton: *confused* “Who’s Sonya?”

Derek: *confused* “You don’t know Sonya?”

Ashton: “No…”

Derek: *unbelieving* “Casey’s best friend?”

Ashton: *shakes his head, confused*

Derek: *disappointed in him* “Dude…” *turns back to his hockey friends*

*scene change: Casey’s dorm - bathroom*

*Casey and Sonya are standing at the sink - Sonya is brushing her teeth and Casey is brushing her hair*

Sonya: *spits into the sink* “So… why haven’t I met Ashton yet?”

Casey: *shrugs* “I don’t know. He never really asked about my friends. And he usually decides what we do when we hang out.”

Sonya: “And are these things you want to do?”

Casey: *pauses, thinking* “Most of the time.”

Sonya: “You’re not letting this guy push you around, are you?”

Casey: *slightly offended* “Never! I am a feminist woman who does not bend to the will of a man.”

Sonya: *smirks* “Yeah, okay.”

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Casey steps out from behind the plant confidently, not afraid to be seen anymore - she smiles, smug*

*scene change: high school - Paul’s office*

*Edwin storms into the office*

Edwin: “Paul, we have a problem!”

Paul: *pauses with his mug of coffee halfway to his mouth, confused*

Edwin: *sits in the chair across from Paul* “I am freaking out!”

Paul: “Okay, Edwin. Take a breath.” *sets his mug of coffee on his desk* “What’s wrong?”

Edwin: “I think I have a crush on someone.”

Paul: *chuckles* “And that’s a problem?”

Edwin: “It’s a problem because of who the someone is.”

Paul: “And who is the someone?”

Edwin: “I can’t tell you!” *throws his hands up, exasperated* “I can’t tell anyone!”

Paul: “Well, what about Lizzie?”

Edwin: “Absolutely not.”

Paul: “Derek? Are he and Casey coming home for the winter break?” *looks a bit hopeful*

Edwin: *thinks about it* “Yeah, I guess I could tell him. Maybe.”

Paul: “Well, Edwin. If you can’t tell me, then you should at least tell someone you trust.”

Edwin: *sighs* “Yeah, I guess you’re right. Thanks, Paul.” *stands and walks toward the door, opens it*

Paul: “And Edwin?”

*Casey is excitedly speed-walking down the hall to Derek’s room - she arrives and throws open the door*

Casey: “Derek, my mom’s in labor-” *stops, horror-struck*

Derek: *in bed, asleep - awakes* *shirtless, sheet pulled up to his waist* “Casey!” *sits up quickly*

Derek: *turns music down* “So…” *drums hands on steering wheel* “About earlier…”

Casey: “I shouldn’t have just barged in like that. There’s a sign-”

Derek: “Well, a sign has never stopped you before.” *glances over at her and smirks* “But I’m sorry… that you saw that.”

Casey: *smirks, looks down* “Was that your girlfriend?” *sheepishly looks over at him*

Derek: “Nah, just sex.” *glances over at her*

Casey: *shocked, speechless* *looks away from him*

Derek: *laughs* “That word cannot make you that uncomfortable. You’re in university! Aren’t you having sex?”

Casey: *still shocked, looks at him* “That is none of your business.” *offended, defiant*

Derek: *raises eyebrows, then looks back at the road*

Casey: *crosses her arms, still defiant* “But, no, I’m not.”

Derek: *glances at her* “I mean, suit yourself.”

Casey: “I just want my first time to be special, ya know?” *defensive*

Derek: *glances at her, surprised* “First time?”

Casey: *her expression confirms him*

Derek: *laughs* “Casey, what have you been doing all this time?”

Casey: *scoffs* “Um, studying. Something you should be doing more of!”

Derek: “Yeah, I’ll get around to it.” *smug*

Casey: *scoffs* “Well, Mr. Player, who was your first time with?”

Derek: “That-” *points at her* “-is none of your business.”

Casey: *looking at Derek, turns and defiantly stares out window*

Derek: *glancing at Casey, her back to him* *uncomfortable* *reaches out and turns up the music, drums hands against the steering wheel*

*scene change: hospital - Nora’s room*

*Nora is pacing around the room with her hands on her back, taking deep breaths*

Nora: *panicked* “I can’t believe I’m doing this again! I’m way too old for this!”

George: *sitting on a chair, breathing into a paper bag* “Nora, you’ve got this!”

Nora: *looks at him, angry* “That’s the problem. I’m the one who has to ‘have this’, because you’re falling apart more than I am!”

George: “It’s just so stressful. I mean, another baby.” *looks panicked* “What if it turns out like Derek? Or worse, like Casey?”

Nora: *offended* “Hey! I’d rather have a high-maintenance overachiever than a high-maintenance slacker.”

George: “I guess you’re right. Either way-” *starts breathing into paper bag again*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Marti is still holding the baby doll, but now she’s looking at two cribs - one with a picture of Casey overtop and one with a picture of Derek. She looks between them, but can’t decide*

*scene change: The Prince - Casey and Derek are staring forward and not talking to each other*

Casey: *reaches over and turns off music* “Do you think I should just get it over with?”

Derek: *annoyed that she turned his music off* *fake smiles at her* “Get what over with?”

Casey: *obviously overthinking* “My first time.”

Derek: “Oh, Casey! I thought we were done talking about this!”

Casey: “Well, now you’ve got me thinking-”

Derek: “Thats’s never good.”

Casey: “-I’m thinking that I should just…” *hesitates* “-do the deed.”

Derek: *glances at her, disgusted* “Do the deed?”

Casey: *ignoring him, still overthinking* “Should I ask Ashton to make love to me?”

Derek: *panicked* “Ew! I don’t want to hear this!” *reaches for volume dial to turn up music*

Casey: *also reaching for volume dial* “No, Derek! I need your help!”

*they begin fighting over the volume dial*

*they hit a patch of ice, the car starts spinning*

*Derek puts his hands on the steering wheel and they both scream as the car goes into a ditch*

*they both look at each other in shock and fear*

Derek: “Are you okay?” *worried*

Casey: “I’m fine. Are you?” *also worried*

Derek: *face changes to anger* “No, I’m not okay! You crashed my car!”

Casey: *angry* “I wasn’t even the one driving!”

Derek: “But you were assaulting the driver!”

Casey: “Derek, that is ridiculous and you know it!”

*scene change: hospital waiting room*

*Lizzie, Edwin, and Marti are sitting in chairs, looking bored*

Edwin: “So… how long is this gonna take?”

Lizzie: “According to my health textbook, labor can last up to 36 hours.”

Edwin: *shocked* “36 hours?!”

Marti: “I’m hungry.”

Lizzie: “Here-” *pulls a five-dollar bill out of her pocket and hands it to Marti* “-go get something from the vending machine.”

Marti: *takes the money* “Okay!” *walks away*

*Casey is standing with her back against The Prince, and Derek is on the other side, talking on the phone*

Derek: *hangs up cellphone* *leans against car next to Casey* “The tow truck won’t be here for another hour.”

Derek: “I’ve got an idea. Let’s play the quiet game while we wait for the tow truck.”

Casey: *ignoring him* “I know! I’ll get in the driver’s seat and steer, and then you can get behind the car and push!”

Derek: *glares at her* “You want me to push both you and The Prince back up onto the road?”

Casey: *sighs* “You’re right. You’re way too scrawny.”

Derek: *looks offended*

Casey: *looks down the road and perks up* *gasps* “Look! Someone’s coming! Maybe they can give us a ride!”

Derek: “We’re not hitchhiking!”

Casey: *waves arms at truck as it approaches* “Hey!”

Derek: *grabs Casey’s arms and pulls them down* “Casey, no!”

Casey: “Derek, let go of me! I’m getting us home!” *pulls arms away from him* *starts waving them again*

Derek: “You’re going to get us murdered!” *reaching for her arms, trying to contain her*

*they start wrestle-fighting as the truck screeches to a stop*

Trucker: *rolls down window* “You kids need a ride somewhere?”

Casey: *dodging out of Derek’s arms while he tries to fight her* “Yes! We’re heading for London!”

Trucker: “That’s right on my route! I can take you there.”

Derek: “No, thanks! We’re good.” *waves dismissively*

Casey: *turns to him, annoyed* “Derek!”

Trucker: “Are you sure about that? I’ve got some nice hot tea as well.”

Casey: *smiles* “Oh! I’d love-”

Derek: *puts arm around Casey’s shoulder and over her mouth, cutting her off* “You have a good day, sir!” *smiles, dismissive*

Trucker: *shrugs, rolls up window, and drives off*

Derek: *sighs, relieved* *takes hand off Casey’s mouth, pulls his arm back*

Casey: *angry* “You are a terrible brother!”

*scene change: Nora’s hospital room*

*George, Lizzie, Edwin, and Marti are huddled around Nora, who’s holding the baby*

Edwin: “Aw, he’s cute!”

*the baby starts to cry*

Edwin: *steps away* “Never-mind.”

Lizzie: *feigning indifference* “So, does he have a name?”

George: “We hadn’t decided on one yet.”

Marti: “What about ‘Simon’?” *looks at George and Nora for approval*

*suddenly, the door opens and Derek and Casey enter, pushing each other out of the way*

George: *stern* “You two!”

*Derek is across the quad, a group of girls huddled around him - he’s flirting with them* *he glances over and sees Casey and Ashton* *he excuses himself from the group and starts walking toward them*

Derek: *approaches Casey and Ashton* “Hey, sis. Are you going to introduce me to your new boyfriend?”

Casey: *glares at him* “Derek, get out of here.”

Ashton: *looks from Derek to Casey, confused*

Derek: *puts hand to heart, pretend hurt* “Oh, I’m sorry. Am I embarrassing you?” *chuckles* “I thought for sure you would have found a way to do that yourself by now.”

Casey: *scoffs* *looks over at Ashton* “Ashton, this is my step-brother Derek-” *glares back at Derek, who’s smirking at her* “-who obviously has nothing better to do than annoy me.”

Casey: “Why are you out here? It’s freezing.”

Derek: “It’s part of my hazing. I have to stay out here on the statue for 24 hours.”

Casey: *shocked, angry* “That’s ridiculous! You could die of hypothermia!”

Derek: “Getting hazed isn’t supposed to be fun.”

Casey: *scoffs* “Well, how far in are you?”

Derek: “About-” *checks watch* “-six hours.”

Casey: *exasperated* “You have to be out here for eighteen more hours?”

Derek: “Hey, you’re getting better at math.” *laughs, then violently shivers*

Casey: *serious, scolding* “Derek! It’s, like, ten degrees out here.”

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Casey picks up a cookie from a cookie sheet - it’s heart shaped. She smiles as she looks at it. Derek appears, takes it from her hand, and takes a bite. Hands it back to her and walks away. Casey scoffs in disgust*

*scene change: Queens quad*

*Derek is still sitting on statue podium - it’s now dark, and he’s illuminated by a campus street light*

*Casey approaches holding a hot chocolate in one hand a takeout bag in the other* “A-hem.” *she holds them up*

Derek: *opens his eyes and notices her* “Casey! For once, I’m glad to see you.”

Casey: “Can’t say the same for me, but mom and George would kill me if I let you freeze to death.” *hands up the hot chocolate and takeout*

Derek: *takes them eagerly and holds the hot chocolate in both hands* “Ah, warmth.” *sets it down and opens the takeout bag, pulling out a bowl of soup* “And food!” *begins eating it and making ‘mmmm’ sounds*

Casey: *looks grossed out* “I’ll leave the two of you alone.” *turns to go*

Derek: “Wait, Casey!” *holds out hand in a ‘stop’ motion*

Casey: *turns back around, waits for his follow-up*

Derek: “It is so boring out here. Can you stay for a minute?”

Casey: “So you can insult me some more?”

Derek: *sighs in frustration* “I promise I won’t insult you.”

Casey: *rolls her eyes, then walks over to him and holds out her hand*

Derek: *sets down takeout and pulls her up to sit next to him* “-for the next thirty seconds.”

Casey: *glares at him*

Derek: “Your boyfriend is really weird.”

Casey: “He’s nice.” *defiant*

Derek: “Alright.” *makes a go on motion with his hands* “What else?”

Derek: *picks up takeout box and starts eating again* *through a mouthful* “He’s nice. What else is he?”

Casey: “He’s…” *searches for words* “Um…”

Derek: *staring at her expectantly, raises eyebrow smugly* “Boring?”

Casey: “No!” *pushes his arm playfully*

Derek: “Sounds like he is.” *puts arm around Casey’s shoulders* *surprised* “Oh, glorious body heat!” *puts other arm around in as well, tucks his face against her shoulder*

Casey: *scoffs and pushes him off* “I’m going to need that to get back to my room.”

Derek: “Oh, c’mon, Casey. Admit it, you love spending time with me.” *smirks*

Casey: “Derek, I hate spending time with you.”

Derek: “And yet, you’re here.” *gestures to her*

Casey: “Only because you begged me to stay.”

Derek: “Whoa-” *puts hands out, offended* “-I did not beg.”

Casey: *rolls her eyes* “Well, if this is what the hazing process is, I think I’ll keep away from the sororities.”

Derek: “Ah, c’mon, Case-” *elbows her side playfully* “-it’s not that bad.”

Casey: “Staying out here in the cold all night? It sounds pretty bad.”

*Lizzie comes in the back door and slams it behind her* *she’s upset*

*Edwin, who’s making a sandwich, only looks at her*

Lizzie: “Can I talk to you about something?”

Edwin: *bitter* “Why don’t you go talk to your new best friends about it?”

Lizzie: *sighs* “Edwin, you’re my best friend.”

Lizzie: *sighs* “Yeah, and I miss you. Can we stop fighting?”

*Ashton is walking through the quad when he looks up, then does a double take and stops*

*the camera pans to the statue podium, where Derek and Casey are huddled together, asleep*

Ashton: *staring, confused* *calls up to her* “Casey?”

Casey: *wakes up suddenly, sits up* *confused* “Whaaa?”

*as she sits up, Derek, still asleep and leaning into her, falls over and hits the podium* *he awakens*

Casey: *looks at him, confused and trying to get her bearings*

Ashton: “Casey, what are you doing up there?”

Casey: *looking down at herself, then over at Derek* “I don’t know. I must have fallen asleep.”

Ashton: *glances at Derek, then back at Casey, ignoring him* “Casey, it’s 8am. We have English in 15 minutes.”

Derek: *raises his eyebrows at Ashton’s passive-aggressive attitude toward him*

Casey: *groans* “Oh, God. Okay.”

Ashton: “Let’s go.” *dismissive*

Casey: *looks at Derek* “Are you coming?”

Derek: *sighs* “I can’t. I have four more hours.”

Casey: “Well-” *slaps her legs* “I’ll grab you some coffee before I go to class.”

Casey: *looks down at Ashton* “Save me a seat?” *starts to scoot to the edge of the platform to climb down*

Derek: “Casey.” *reaches out and takes hold of her wrist*

Derek: *smirks* “And get me a bagel too.”

Casey: *smirks back, rolls her eyes* “I’ll think about it.” *turns back and lets Ashton help her down from the platform*

*Ashton and Casey begin walking away, and Ashton puts his arm around her shoulders*

*scene change: high school - cafeteria*

*Edwin walks into the cafeteria and sees Ronny sitting at their usual table - he starts to walk that way*

*Lizzie appears and stops in front of him, halting him*

Lizzie: “Come sit with me and my friends.”

Edwin: *confused* “But-”

Lizzie: *cuts him off* “And invite Ronny too.” *smiles*

Edwin: *smiles back* “Okay.”

*Lizzie turns and goes back to her table*

*Edwin walks over to Ronny, and starts speaks with him for a moment, gesturing toward Lizzie’s table*

*Ronny looks unsure, but he gets up and follows him there*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Derek approaches Casey, who looks sad, with a heart-shaped cookie. She smiles as she takes it from him, but he looks indifferent about it*

*Derek walks in, casually goes to Casey’s door and opens it to an empty room* *he looks disappointed*

*off camera, someone speaks: “Looking for someone?”

Derek: *turns to find Sonya leaning against the wall next to him* “Uh, yeah.”

*Lizzie enters the kitchen dressed in all black, with black eyeliner around her eyes*

Marti: *looks up* *drops spoon and screams*

Edwin: *looks up* “Whoa!” *concerned*

*George and Nora turn around - both are stunned*

Nora: “Lizzie!”

Edwin: *horrified* “What are you wearing?”

Marti: “Is it Halloween?”

Lizzie: *angry* “This is who I am now!” *turns and stomps away* *yells back* “No one understands me!”

*the family watches her leave, confused*

George: *sighs* “Teenagers.”

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Marti covering her face, looking scared*

*scene change: Paul’s office*

*Edwin bursts through the door, throwing his backpack into the corner and coming to take a seat*

Edwin: *angry* “This is so unfair!”

Paul: *surprised, taken aback*

Edwin: “Everyone expects me to live up to Derek’s reputation, but Lizzie’s not expected to be the next Casey.”

Paul: *composes himself* “What makes you say that?”

Edwin: “It’s always Venturi-this and Venturi-that, but never McDonald.” * “Casey didn’t build a reputation at this school the way Derek did.”

Paul: “And Lizzie doesn’t try to be like Casey?”

Edwin: “No.” *sighs* “Lizzie’s been acting… different lately.”

Paul: “Bad different or good different?”

Edwin: “Definitely bad different. She won’t talk to me at school anymore.”

Paul: *confused* “And why’s that?”

Edwin: “I think I embarrass her.”

Paul: “Oh, I’m sure that’s not true.”

Edwin: *looks unsure*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Derek walking, Edwin copying his movements behind him. Derek turns and sees Edwin, who continues copying him. Derek looks confused and annoyed*

*scene change: Casey’s dorm common room*

*Casey walks out of the bathroom and toward her room* *she’s dressed up and wearing sparkly blue eye shadow*

*Sonya exits her room and sees Casey*

Sonya: “Wow! You look amazing!”

Casey: *smiles* “Really?”

Sonya: *looking her up and down* “Really. What’s all this for?”

Casey: *blushes, a bit embarrassed* “So, there’s this guy.”

Sonya: *smirks* “Go on.”

Casey: “He’s the sweetest, kindest, most respectful guy.”

Sonya: *suddenly confused* “He is?”

Casey: “Yes! And he’s handsome, too! And hygienic, and well-dressed.”

Sonya: “So, we’re not talking about Derek Venturi?”

Casey: *outraged* “Ew! No! Derek is my step-brother.”

Sonya: *realizing, mouths oh*

*scene change: Queens quad*

*Derek is leaning against a tree, obviously looking for someone* *he suddenly sees who he’s looking for and starts speed walking toward them*

*he falls into step with a girl who’s walking down the sidewalk*

Derek: “Hey, Lana.”

Lana: *looks over at him* “Oh, hi, Derek.”

Derek: “Wanna catch a movie tonight?”

Lana: “Um, Derek. This was more of a one-time thing. We don’t have to, like, hang out.”

Derek: *confused* “Are you breaking up with me?”

Lana: *laughs* “No.”

Derek: *relieved, laughs* “Oh, cuz it sounded like-”

Lana: *nonchalant* “We were never dating. So we can’t really break up.”

Derek: *confused again* “We weren’t?”

Lana: “No, silly!” *pushes his arm lightly* “I was using you.”

Derek: *looks a bit offended*

Lana: “For sex.”

*Derek stops walking, but Lana continues* *he watches her go, half-stunned and half-amused*

*scene change: outside of Casey’s dorm building*

*Ashton and Casey walk up to the door and stop*

Casey: *turns to face him and smiles* “I had a really great time tonight.”

Ashton: “Casey-” *takes her hands and looks into her eyes* “-I really like you.”

Casey: *smiles* “I really like you too.”

Ashton: “I just want you to know that I’m not seeing anyone else.”

Casey: *a bit confused* “Okay.”

Ashton: “I just mean that I don’t date around. If we continue to see each other, I’d like to be exclusive.”

Casey: *smiles, relieved* “That sounds… perfect!”

*Ashton smiles, then leans in and kisses her*

*Casey puts her arms around his neck and kisses him back*

*scene change: McDonald-Venturi household - hallway outside of Lizzie’s room*

*Lizzie is taking the posters off of her bedroom door and replacing them with posters of goth bands*

*Derek’s bedroom door opens, and Edwin walks out with a box of his own things*

Lizzie: *looks over at him* “Edwin, what are you doing?”

Edwin: “I’m moving out of Derek’s room.”

Lizzie: *confused* “Why would you do that?”

Edwin: “Look, I just don’t think I’m really worthy of the room.”

Lizzie: “Edwin, that’s stupid. You hate living in the attic. You’ve wanted that room your whole life.”

Edwin: “It’s Derek’s room.” *walks up the stairs to his old room*

*Lizzie watches him go, concerned*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Edwin is still copying Derek, and Derek pushes him off frame*

*scene change: Queens campus diner*

*Casey and Derek are sitting on opposite sides of a booth, facing each other*

*Casey is bent over a piece of paper, writing* *she looks very concentrated and tense*

*Casey suddenly stops writing, then picks up the paper and hands it to Derek* *she’s looking at him expectantly and hopefully*

*Derek takes the paper and looks over it for a moment* *then he smirks at her*

Derek: “Not bad.”

Casey: *excited* “Is it right?” *reaches for the paper*

Derek: *hands it to her* “It’s right.”

Casey: *looking over the paper, smiling* “Yes!”

Derek: *smiles, watching her* “So-” *drums knuckles on the table* “-how was your date?”

Casey: *looks up at him, suspicious* “Why do you care?”

Derek: *shrugs* “I don’t. Just thought you would want to talk about it.”

Derek: “He’s not anything like Truman, is he?”

Casey: “Nothing like Truman!”

Derek: “Good, because I’m not listening to you cry when he kisses your cousin.”

Casey makes an unlikely friend at school. Derek tries to get into a fraternity. Edwin starts seeing Paul, the guidance counselor, where he expresses concern for changes in Lizzie.

*scene opens on a frat house - a group of fraternity brothers are sitting around a table talking*

*the door opens suddenly, and Derek strolls in wearing his leather jacket*

*the group of guys watch him as he walks toward them, then stops before them*

Kenny (fraternity brother): “Who the hell are you?”

Derek: *holds out his hand to him* “Derek Venturi, soon to be your fraternity brother.”

Kenny: “Oh, yeah?” *chuckles*

Derek: “Yup.” *crosses his arms over his chest, smug*

Kenny: “Well, to get into Kappa Sigma, you have to prove your loyalty.”

Derek: “Alright-” *cracks knuckles, smug* “-what do I have to do?”

Kenny: *smiles, chuckles*

*scene change: Queens quad - the lawn*

*Casey is sitting in the grass with a study group* *they are all looking at their books*

Derek: *runs past naked, hand covering crotch* “Kappa Sigma!”

Casey: *looks up at him, jaw drops in disgust* “Der-ek!”

Study Group Girl: *leans in toward Casey, still looking at Derek* “Your brother is cute.”

Casey: *looks at the girl, grossed out* “He’s my STEP brother.”

Study Group Girl: *smiles at her suggestively, but Casey doesn’t pick up on it*

Casey: *scoffs at Derek again, then looks back down at books*

*suddenly, the door opens - the music gets louder (it’s screamo) and Lizzie looks at Edwin suspiciously*

Lizzie: “What are you doing?”

Edwin: “Nothing!” *defensive* “Just trying to figure out what that horrible noise is.”

Lizzie: *glares at him* “It’s music.”

Edwin: *surprised* “That’s music?”

Lizzie: *annoyed* “You wouldn’t understand.”

Edwin: *confused* “Why not?”

Lizzie: “Just forget it.” *walks back into her room and slams the door behind her*

Edwin: *to himself* “What’s her problem?”

Marti: *appears in the hallway - comes to stand next to Edwin* “What’s that sound?”

Edwin: *looks down at her* “Music, apparently.”

*Casey is lying on her stomach on her bed, studying*

*a knock sounds on the door*

Casey: *looks up at the door, confused* “Yeah?”

*knob turns and door swings open - Sonya is standing on the other side*

Casey: “Oh.” *confused* “Hi.”

Sonya: “Can I come in?”

Casey: “Um… sure.” *hesitant, skeptical*

Sonya: *takes two steps into Casey’s room and stops* “How’s your semester going?”

Casey: “Um… it’s okay. Busy.” *gestures to her books*

Sonya: *nods knowingly* “Wanna go get coffee? I’m buying.” *smiles*

Casey: *surprised* “Um-” *closes book, sits up* “Sure!” *smiles*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Casey is proudly holding a trophy - Derek comes into frame and takes it from her. She tries to get it back, but he successfully is able to keep it*

*scene change: Queens campus diner*

*Casey and Sonya are sitting at a booth together, drinking coffee and talking*

Sonya: “So, have you chosen your major yet?” *puts her elbows on the table and leans toward Casey*

Casey: “Ya know, I think I have. I really think I want to go to law school.”

Sonya: “Wow. Ambitious.”

Casey: *shrugs* “I’ve always been a bit of an overachiever.”

Sonya: *chuckles* “Yeah, I can tell.”

*Casey and Sonya are silent for a few seconds, and it starts to get awkward*

Casey: *searching for something to say* “Do you have a boyfriend?”

*Sonya opens her mouth to answer, but is interrupted by-*

Derek: *slides into the booth next to Casey, looking at Sonya* “Good question. And I would love to hear the answer.” *smirks*

Casey: *glares at Derek, pushes his arm away from herself*

Sonya: *watches them, amused* “And, you are?”

Derek: “Derek Venturi.” *holds out his hand to her, smirking*

Sonya: *looks at his hand* “Thanks, but no thanks.” *doesn’t shake it*

*Casey smiles at Sonya, then looks at Derek smugly*

Derek: “Ah-” *pulls hand back, glances at Casey and then back to Sonya* “-so you do have a boyfriend.”

Sonya: “No.”

Derek: *looks confused, but still smug*

Sonya: *leans in, smirks* “I have a girlfriend.”

Casey: *looking at Sonya, surprised - smiles, then looks at Derek*

Derek: *raises eyebrows, realizing* “Oh.” *looks at Casey* “It’s not you, is it?”

Casey: “No.”

Sonya: “I wish.”

*Casey and Derek both look at her, shocked*

Sonya: *smiles* “I’m kidding.” *looks Casey up and down* “Mostly.”

*Derek watches this exchange in awe, focusing on Casey’s reactions*

Casey: *smiles, blushes* *nervous, flustered*

Sonya: *smiles at her, then looks at Derek* “Anything else?”

Derek: *confused, speechless* “Um… no.”

Sonya: *smirks* “Bye, then.” *begins to wave with her hand*

Derek: *defeated, gets up from the booth* “Bye, ladies.”

*Sonya and Casey watch him leave, smiling conspiratorially*

Sonya: “He’s cute.”

Casey: *looks at Sonya, confused and disgusted*

Sonya: *looks at Casey, smiles and chuckles*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Derek and Casey fighting over the trophy. Casey gets it from him, pushes him down and holds up the trophy, victorious*

*scene change: Paul’s office*

Edwin: *walks into the office, closing the door behind him* “Hi, Paul?”

Paul: *folds hands on desk in front of him* “Yes, young man? What can I do for you?”

Edwin: “Well-” *sits in chair across from Paul* “-I’m having a hard time finding myself in high school. Casey told me that you really helped her out, and-”

Paul: “Casey McDonald? How do you know her?”

Edwin: “She’s my step-sister. She spoke very highly of you.”

Paul: “That’s sweet. How is Casey doing?”

Edwin: “Fine, I guess. She calls often.”

Paul: “And Derek?”

Edwin: “He calls… less often. Listen, I have a lot of problems, so be prepared to give guidance.”

Paul: *chuckles* “Just like your sister.”

Edwin: *ignoring his comment* “Well, my first problem is that I can’t make any friends because people think I’m weird.”

Paul: *opens his mouth, about to speak*

Edwin: *cuts him off* “And the only friend I did make is someone Lizzie really doesn’t like.”

Paul: *looks concerned* “Do you often let your siblings dictate who you talk to?”

Edwin: *shrugs* “Not really. Except Derek.”

Paul: “But Derek is away at college now.”

Edwin: “I know, so it’s hard to know who I should be friends with. He’s not here to tell me.”

Paul: “It sounds like you relied on your brother’s validation of your choices.”

Edwin: “Well, yeah. Derek knows what’s best for me.”

Paul: “Have you tried making friends Derek wouldn’t have approved of?”

Edwin: “Not until now.”

Paul: “Maybe you should try it. You might like it.”

Edwin: *nods, thinking*

*scene change: high school cafeteria*

*Edwin walks into the cafeteria and stops when he sees Ronny sitting alone at a table* *he stares at him for a second, then glances over at Lizzie*

*Lizzie is sitting at a table with her new friends, watching Edwin* *she shakes her head threateningly at him*

*Edwin stares at her, challenging* *then he looks back at Ronny and walks to his table* *he sits down across from him and they start talking*

*the camera cuts back to Lizzie, and she looks disappointed in him*

*scene change: Derek’s dorm common room*

*Derek enters his dorm common room from outside and stops, confused*

*the camera cuts to what Derek sees - all his dorm mates are cheering as one of them shotguns beers one after the other, spilling everywhere*

*the whole place is filthy, and all the guys ignore Derek as he stands watching them*

*Derek sighs, then walks past them into his room and shuts the door behind him*

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Casey still has the trophy, and Derek is on the ground from when she pushed him - she puts her foot on him and holds up the trophy like a victor. He looks annoyed, offended, and disappointed*

*scene change: Casey’s dorm common room*

*Casey and Sonya enter from outside to find all the girls who live there painting each others’s nails*

*the girls turn to them and squeal* *one of the girls runs over to greet them*

Girl: *excited* “We’re doing manicures!” *takes both of Casey’s hands and looks down at them, then back up at her* “Can I do yours in pink?”

Casey: *smiles, then looks at Sonya*

Sonya: *smiles at her, nods to the girls in approval*

Derek starts a sexist radio show, and Casey invites herself on to speak against him. Edwin is struggling with finding his identity in high school, and Lizzie is spending time with a new crowd.

-EPISODE START-

*scene opens on cafeteria hall*

*Casey is eating oatmeal, reading a book*

Derek: *appears and sits across from her* “Hey, Case.” *takes spoon from her hand, pulls the bowl toward himself, and starts shoveling her oatmeal into his mouth* “Mmm, food.”

Casey: *jaw drops in disgust* “Der-ek!” *pulls spoon from his hand and pulls bowl back to her side of the table* “What do you think you’re doing?”

Derek: *unfazed, mouth still full* “Um, eating breakfast?” *gives her a ‘duh’ look*

Casey: “Well, get your own.”

Derek: “Can’t. I ran out of meal tickets.” *shrugs shoulders*

Casey: *exasperated* “Already? We’re barely a month into the semester!”

Derek: “In my defense-” *points to Casey* “-they didn’t give me near enough to last the whole semester.”

Casey: *annoyed* “They would have lasted if you didn’t use them all at the churro stand.”

Derek: “It’s awesome!” *smiles* “They take meal tickets instead of money!”

Casey: *fake smiles at him* “Well, you can’t have any of mine.”

Derek: “I don’t need them-” *gets up from table, turns to leave* *turns back around to face Casey* “-but I will see you at lunch.” *finger guns, turns back and walks away*

Casey: *glares* *calls after him* “No, you won’t!”

Casey: *shakes head, looks down at her oatmeal and scowls* “Ew!” *pushes bowl away*

*we see Lizzie talking to a girl dressed all in black*

Edwin: *sees Lizzie and walks over to her* “Lizzie!”

Lizzie: *looks over and sees him* *looks back at girl* “Well, okay, I’ll see you later.”

Edwin: “Hey, do you want to eat lunch together?”

Lizzie: *looks sorry* “Oh, I would, but I already told my new friend Kristen that I would eat lunch with her.”

Edwin: *disappointed* “Oh.” *smiles* “That’s okay! I’ll just eat with my friends.”

Lizzie: *pitying expression* “Okay.” *smiles, turns and leaves*

Edwin: *sighs, hangs head*

*scene change: Casey’s dorm common room*

*Casey emerges from her room and sees all of her dorm mates gathered around a radio*

Casey: *stops, confused* “Uh, what’s going on?”

Dorm Mate: *looks up at her* “We’re listening to this new show on the University Radio.”

*from radio: “And, ladies, mini skirts are back in. Even in the winter, don’t be afraid to show a little skin.”

Casey: *scoffs, offended* “Who does this guy think he is?”

Another Dorm Mate: “I don’t know, but he sounds cute.” *smiles*

*from radio: “And can you really blame us guys for staring. It’s a compliment!”

Casey: “What’s kind of misogynistic, arrogant pig is this guy-”

*from radio: “This has been Deep Dish with your host Derek Venturi. And if any ladies are listening, I’m in dorm 4E.”

Casey: *exasperated, shocked* “Derek?!”

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Derek is standing on a red carpet, posing, smiling, smirking* *cameras are flashing* *Casey appears and pushes him off of the carpet -out of frame, holds up a picket sign that says ‘protest’* *Derek comes back into frame, picks her up and carries her away while she kicks and fights*

*scene change: Queens quad*

*Casey is angrily stomping through the quad, looking around for Derek* *she suddenly spots him across the quad flirting with a group of girls*

Casey: *approaches him from behind and angrily taps him on the shoulder* *crosses her arms over her chest*

Derek: *glances over his shoulder and sees her* *looks back at girl and holds up a finger* “Excuse me for one second.” *turns around to face Casey again, annoyed* “Whaddaya want?”

Casey: “I have to talk to you.” *glaring at him*

Derek: *chuckles* “Well, get in line.” *turns back toward girl*

Casey: *taps his shoulder again, this time harder*

Derek: *rolls eyes, groans* *turns back to face Casey* “What?” *annoyed*

Casey: “I heard your little radio show.”

Derek: *smiles* “Ah! Whaddaya think?” *raises eyebrows, opens arms*

Casey: “I think-” *pushes his chest* “-you’re a pig.”

Derek: “Well, you might be the only one who thinks that.” *crosses arms over his chest, smug*

Casey: *inspired, like she has an idea* “We’ll see about that.” *turns and speed-walks away*

Derek: *confused* “O-kay…” *turns back toward girls*

*scene change: high school - cafeteria*

*Edwin is sitting alone at a table, eating a sandwich* *he’s staring at Lizzie, who’s sitting at a table with a group of goth kids*

*suddenly someone stops in front of Edwin, blocking his line of sight*

*record scratch sound effect*

Edwin: *looks up at person’s face - it’s Ronny* *confused* “Uh, hi, Ronny.”

Ronny: *gestures to the seat across from Edwin with his lunch tray* “Is this seat taken?”

Edwin: “No.”

Ronny: *sets his lunch tray down and sits* *starts eating his food*

Edwin: *stares at him* “You don’t have to sit with me if you don’t want to.”

Ronny: *looks up at him* “Why wouldn’t I want to?”

Edwin: “I guess… I thought you didn’t like me.”

Ronny: “I like you.” *coughs, takes a drink from his gatorade* “Or… I don’t not like you.”

Edwin: “You hit me that one time.”

Ronny: “I know.” *sighs, apologetic* “I’m sorry about that.”

Edwin: “I forgive you.” *picks up his sandwich, looks back up at him* “And Ronny?”

Ronny: “Yeah?”

Edwin: *smiles* “Thanks.”

Ronny: *smiles*

*Edwin and Ronny start eating their lunch again*

*scene change: Queens quad*

*Casey is standing in the middle of the quad with a clipboard in her hand* *she’s approaching students and talking to them*

Casey: *to a random female student* “So, if we get enough signatures, we can get ‘Deep Dish’ taken off the air.”

Student: “Why would I want to do that?”

Casey: *worked up* “Because it is a sexist commentary by a modern misogynist that spreads the message of anti-feminism.”

Student: “Whoa.” *chuckles, then walks away*

Casey: *shocked, offended* *calls after her* “You wouldn’t sign for feminism?” *looks distraught*

*Derek walks up and stands behind her as she’s yelling to the student*

Derek: *confused* “What are you doing?”

Casey: *whips around, surprised* *glares when she sees that it’s Derek* “You.”

Derek: “Y’know, the volleyball team said they were going to name me Queens Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive.” *smirks*

Casey: “That’s nice, but I’m going to get your little radio show cancelled.” *annoyed, angry*

Derek: *puts his arm around her and begins to walk with her down the sidewalk* “And how do you expect to do that?”

Casey: “By collecting signatures and bringing them to the dean.”

Derek: “Yeah? And how many have you got?” *smug, looks down at her clipboard*

Casey: *hides the clipboard against herself quickly* *hesitant* “…seven.”

Derek: “And how long have you been working on that?”

Casey: *sighs* *under her breath* “Six hours.”

Derek: “Huh.” *smiles smugly at her* “Looks like I’ve got about four years before I have to start worrying.”

Casey: *sighs, annoyed*

Derek: *pats her back, condescending* *walks away*

*scene change: McDonald-Venturi household - living room*

*Edwin is sitting on the couch watching TV* *Lizzie comes in through the front door*

Lizzie: “Edwin, can I see you in the games closet?”

Edwin: *looks at her, confused* “Sure.” *gets off the couch*

*Lizzie and Edwin go to the games closet silently*

*scene change: darkness - games closet light turns on (done by Lizzie) and the two are standing facing each other*

Lizzie: “I heard from a very reliable source that you were seen eating lunch with Ronny today.”

Edwin: “Your source was correct.”

Lizzie: “I seem to remember you coming home with a black eye in grade 7. And I seem to remember the reason being Ronny.”

Edwin: “You remember correctly. However, Ronny is the only person who will sit next to Edweirdo at lunch.”

Lizzie: *hesitates*

Edwin: *looks expectant*

Lizzie: “Fair point. But just remember that you can’t always trust people who you think are your friends.” *she opens the door, steps out, and closes the door behind her*

*Edwin is left in the games closet by himself*

Edwin: *to himself, begrudgingly* “Don’t worry. I’ll remember.”

Casey: *ignores him* “The women in this school should band together to take down these misogynistic, arrogant-”

*Casey is walking down the hallway with her books* *she’s looking down at one and reading as she walks*

*Lizzie’s door opens, and she appears, rubbing sleep from her eyes* *she takes a step forward and trips over something unseen*

Lizzie: *falls to the floor* Ah! *looks back at her doorway and sees a trip-wire rigged there*

Lizzie: *groans* *yells* “Edwin!”

Edwin: *emerges from Derek’s bedroom, obviously just woken up by Lizzie* “Whhaaatt?”

Lizzie: *gets up from the floor and points to her door* “Stop. Pranking. Me.”

Edwin: *groans* “Lizzie, for the hundredth time, I’m not pranking you.”

Lizzie: *not believing him* “Then how do you explain the trip wire?”

Edwin: “I can’t explain it, because I didn’t do it.”

Lizzie: “You won’t even admit to it? You are so immature. In fact, you’re just like Derek!” *stomps away*

Casey: *looks around as students start to get up and leave* *shoves notebook and pen in her bag, then stands, a bit frazzled, and starts down the stairs*

Ashton: “Whoa!” *steadies Casey, then releases her hand* “Watch your step.” *obviously flirting*

Casey: “Oh, thanks!” *smiles* “You know, they called me Klutzilla back at my high school.” *jokingly*

Ashton: *raises eyebrows, smirks*

Casey: “And I don’t know why I would tell you that.” *nervously laughs*

Ashton: *holds out hand* “I’m Ashton.”

*George and Nora are making dinner together*

Nora: “I’m so excited to have a real McDonald-Venturi child.” *smiles at George*

George: “We’ve got to start thinking about names!”

Nora: “I’ve always liked Caleb for a boy.”

George: *furrows brow* “Caleb? Really?”

Nora: “What’s wrong with Caleb?”

George: “Uh, nothing.”

Nora: *rolls eyes at him* “It’s just going to be so fun to have a baby again, George!”

George: “Yeah, and it’s a good thing we got Derek out of the house before the baby’s born. Can you imagine him and a baby in the same house?” *makes a ‘yikes’ face*

*Marti is hiding around the corner, listening to them* *she looks sad*

*Derek walks out of his room in his pajamas, dodges two guys who are wrestling with each other* *looks annoyed with his dorm mates as he picks the phone up from where it’s laying in a puddle of soda on the counter*

Derek: *grimaces, brings phone to his ear* “What?”

Marti: *through phone* “Smerek?”

Derek: *expression softens* “Hey, Smarti. What’s up?”

Marti: *through phone* “I miss you a lot. And no one else does.”

Derek: *furrows brows* “I miss you too, but why would you think no one else misses me?”

Marti: *through phone* “They keep saying so.”

Derek: “Who does?”

Marti: *through phone* “Dad and Nora and Edwin and Lizzie.”

Derek: *confused, about to speak*

Dorm Mate: *cuts him off, slaps hand to Derek’s shoulder* “Time’s up! I’ve got to call my bitch!”

Derek: *looks at him with disgust* *to Marti* “Look, Marti, I’ve gotta go. I’ll call back later.” *hangs up phone and hands it to dorm mate*

*Marti sitting in games closet with phone to her ear - it’s already been hung up, so there’s only a dial tone*

Marti: *takes phone away from her ear and looks at it sadly* “Bye, Smerek.”

-BLUE SCREEN SCENE: *Derek cleaning up trash, looking disgusted while Casey eats potato chips and watches TV*

*scene change: Derek’s dorm common room*

*Derek walks into the kitchen area and opens a cupboard - it’s empty* *he looks over at the sink, which is overflowing with dishes*

*Derek sighs, then turns on the tap and sticks his mouth in the stream to drink water*

*one of his dorm mates walks into the kitchen area and belches, then opens the fridge and pulls out the milk* *he drinks it from the carton*

*Derek looks annoyed and grossed out* *groans, grabs his jacket, and leaves the room*

*scene change: Queens campus diner*

*Casey is sitting in a booth doing homework, she looks up and makes eye contact with Ashton, who’s across the diner from her*

*Ashton smiles and waves at her*

*Casey smiles back and waves*

*Ashton gets up and starts walking toward Casey’s booth*

*Derek suddenly appears and plops down across from her*

Derek: *urgent* “Casey!”

*record scratch sound effect as Casey is taken out of her moment with Ashton*

Casey: *annoyed* “How is it that you always know exactly where to find me?”

Derek: *pours himself a cup of coffee from the pot on the table* “I just think of the lamest places on campus - diner, library - and then look there first.” *takes a sip of coffee*

Casey: *glares at him* “What do you want?”

Derek: “Have you talked to the family recently?”

Casey: “Of course. I talk to them everyday. Why?”

Derek: “Did they happen to mention me?”

Casey: “Only to tell me how calm and serene it is with you gone.” *smirks viciously*

Derek: *expression turns to disappointment* “Marti was right.”

Casey: *confused* “Right about what?”

Derek: “They’re glad I’m gone.”

Casey: *sighs* “Derek, that’s not true.”

Derek: “Yes, it is! They haven’t called me at all!” *upset* “With the exception of Marti.”

Casey: *furrows brow* “Not even Marti has called me.”

Derek: *confused* “You said you talked to them everyday.”

Casey: “Yeah, but I always call them.”

Derek: *understanding* “Oh. You do?”

Casey: “Well, yeah.” *crosses arms self-consciously* “Don’t you?”

Derek: *stares at Casey while he thinks* “I’ve gotta go.” *gets up and leaves in a hurry*

Casey: *watches him go, confused*

*scene change: Venturi-McDonald household - dining room table*

*Nora, George, Lizzie, and Marti are sitting at the dining room table starting to eat dinner*

Edwin: *approaches table* “Yes! Taco night!” *excitedly falls into his seat*

*a fart noise sounds*

Lizzie: *disgusted* “Ew, Edwin!”

George: “Edwin, not at the table.”

Edwin: *defensive* “It wasn’t me! It was-” *pulls something from under his bottom and holds it up* “Really, Lizzie? A whoopee cushion? Doesn’t that seem a little juvenile?”

Nora: “Kids, let’s not fight-”

Lizzie: “No!” *stands, angry* “I’m sick of Edwin pranking me and then blaming them on me!”

Marti: “You guys aren’t doing it right!” *gets up from the table and runs up the stairs, upset*

George: “Marti!” *looks at Nora, then goes after her*

George: *walking down the hall and looking around* “Marti?”

*there’s a sniffling sound from the games closet*

George: *confused, approaches closet and opens the door to find Marti sitting on the floor crying* “Marti, what’s wrong?”

Marti: “I miss Derek!”

George: “Oh, Marti.” *kneels down to sit on the floor with her* “I know you do. We all miss him and Casey.”

Marti: *defiant* “No, you don’t! Nobody misses him except for me! Everyone else is glad he’s gone!”

George: “Marti, that’s not true. What makes you think we don’t miss Derek?”

Marti: “I heard you and Nora in the kitchen. You’re glad Derek isn’t here!”

George: “Oh, Marti.” *hugs her* “We do miss him. Everyday.”

Marti: “That’s why I have to play his pranks for him. So you won’t forget him.”

George: “You’re the one who’s messing with Edwin and Lizzie?”

Marti: *nods head*

George: “Well, Marti, you don’t have to that. We’re never going to forget Derek. Plus, he’ll be back to visit soon.”

Marti: “Ok-ay.”

George: “I think you should apologize to Edwin and Lizzie too. We don’t want them to start fighting the way Casey and Derek do, right?”

Marti: *smiles, giggles* “Right!”

*scene change: McDonald-Venturi household - dining room table*

*George, Nora, Lizzie, Edwin, and Marti are sitting at the dining room table*

George: “Lizzie, Edwin - Marti has something she wants to say to you.” *looks down at Marti, nods for her to talk*

Marti: “I’m the one who put the egg on the floor outside of Lizzie’s room, and I tripped Lizzie, and I put the Whoopi cushion on Edwin’s chair.” *apologetic* “I’m really sorry!”

Lizzie: “We forgive you, Marti. And, Edwin, I’m sorry I yelled at you.”

Edwin: “Yeah, I’m sorry too, Liz.” *smiles*

Derek and Casey get acquainted with their new school. Edwin and Lizzie adjust to life without their two eldest siblings. George and Nora are expecting a child.

*scene opens on family at Queens University, unpacking Derek and Casey’s bags from the car*

Nora: “Oh, I can’t believe how fast you grew up!” *puts hands on Casey’s shoulders and smiles at her*

Casey: “Mom, stop, you’re going to make me cry.” *smiles, looks close to tears*

*record scratch sound effect - a look of panic crosses Derek’s face*

Derek: “Nope!” *pats Edwin on the back, pushes Lizzie toward the car* “You guys better go before the waterworks start.”

*Nora lets go of Casey, smiles*

George: “Oh, we almost forgot your gifts!” *starts digging in the back of the car*

Casey and Derek simultaneously: “Gifts?”

*George takes two wrapped boxes from the car and hands one to each of them* “Derek… and Casey.”

*Derek and Casey unwrap their respective gifts*

Edwin: “I helped choose your gift, Derek.”

Marti: “I helped too!”

Casey: “Wow! A TV?” *smiles* “Thanks, mom and George!”

*wuh-wuh sound effect* *Derek looks at his gift in disgust (it’s a portable CD player)*

Derek: *jaw drops, staring at Casey’s gift* “Casey’s getting a TV?” *looks back at parents* “What about me?”

George: “Well, I’m sorry, Derek. We only had the money for one TV, and Casey got better grades in school, so…” *gestures to the TV box*

Derek: *exasperated* “That is so unfair!”

Casey: “I think it’s perfectly fair, actually.” *glares at Derek* “Sometimes it pays to try.”

Derek: “Oh, yeah?” *smiles smugly at Casey* “Why don’t you try being less of a princess?”

Casey: “I’ll act like less of a princess when you start acting like less of a troll.”

*Derek and Casey begin bickering*

*the family looks at each other knowingly while they bicker*

Nora: *over Casey and Derek, arms out in a peace offering* “You, guys! You, guys!”

*Casey and Derek stop arguing, look at Nora*

Nora: “Try not to kill each other, okay?”

Casey: *crosses her arms over her chest* “It’s a big campus. We’ll barely even see each other.”

Derek: *under his breath* “If we’re lucky…”

George: “Alright, kids. Hug your brother and sister goodbye. We’ve got to hit the road.”

*Casey and Derek hugging family and saying goodbye - family loads into the car*

*Casey and Derek stand and watch them drive away, waving*

Casey: “You know, I’m really going to miss them.” *looks over at Derek*

Derek: “Oh, Casey! Enough with the sappy stuff! We just got here.” *turns and walks toward dorms*

Derek: “Yeah, you’re right.” *looks at stack of luggage, contemplating* “I’ll take this.” *takes the box with the TV in it, starts walking toward his own dorm*

Casey: “Der-ek!” *scoffs and glares as she watches him go*

Edwin: *enters Derek’s room, looks around smiling*

“Finally, the room is mine!”

*Edwin jumps onto the bed and lays with his hands behind his head* *looks around for a couple seconds before his face falls slightly*

*scene change: Queens Courtyard*

*Casey is speed-walking with a purpose, and she is fuming*

*Derek stands flirting and laughing with a couple of girls - the TV box is wedged under his arm as he stands casually*

Casey: *aggressively approaches, rips TV out from under his arm* “Jerk!”

Derek: *grabs ahold of TV box as well, and they start fighting over it* “Who are you? You can’t steal my TV!”

Casey: “Shut up, Derek.” *pulls harder* “And let-” *rips it from his hands* “-go!” *stumbles*

Derek: *points at her and laughs*

Casey: *turns and starts stomping away*

Derek: *turns back to girls and smiles* “She has some anger issues.”

Casey: *continues stomping away*

*scene change: Venturi-McDonald house*

*Lizzie and Edwin are sitting on the couch watching TV together*

Lizzie: *looks around* “The silence is so eerie.”

Edwin: “I know. I keep thinking that at some point, Derek will come down and take the remote from me.”

Lizzie: “Or Casey will start yelling at him.”

*Lizzie and Edwin look at each other for a second*

Edwin: “Lizzie, let’s promise to never fight like those two did.” *holds out pinkie finger*

Lizzie: “Amen to that.” *links pinkies with Edwin and shakes*

*scene change: Casey setting up her room, unpacking boxes*

*Another female student appears from around the corner, stops in Casey’s doorway*

Sonya: “Hey.”

Casey: *turns to face her* “Oh, hi.” *smiles*

Sonya: “I’m Sonya. I’ve got the room next door.” *leaning against door jamb with arms crossed* *tilts her head to indicate direction*

Casey: “Casey.”

Sonya: “You a freshman?”

Casey: “Yeah. Are you a freshman too?” *looks excited*

Sonya: “No, I’m a junior. Majoring in English Lit. You?”

Casey: “Oh, um…” *looks a bit flustered* “I haven’t exactly decided yet.”

Sonya: “Cute.” *turns and leaves*

Casey: *stares after her, confused and disappointed*

*two girls walk by her open door - they are fighting about one sleeping with the other’s boyfriend*

Casey: *takes a steadying breath* *to herself* “It’s fine. All these girls will turn out to be great.”

*a crash sounds from outside the door, and the fighting continues*

*Casey jumps at the sound, then turns and goes back to unpacking her things, looking more concerned now*

*BLUE SCREEN SCENE: Edwin acting cool, wearing sunglasses and a leather jacket - Lizzie crosses her arms, shakes her head, and rolls her eyes at him, smiling*

*scene change: Derek walks into his dorm common room, leather jacket and sunglasses on*

Derek: “Hello, boys.” *throws bag down, whips off sunglasses* “The party has finally arrived.”

*cricket sound effect* *there are six guys hanging out on couches and chairs in the dorm’s common room* *they all glance over at Derek briefly and then go back to watching the TV and texting*

Derek: *furrows his brow in confusion as he looks at them*

Guy: *without looking up from his phone* “All the rooms have been claimed. Except the one by the bathroom.” *points toward the bathroom, which is behind Derek, where there’s a flush sound and then a guy walks out*

Derek: *turns from looking at the bathroom back to the group* “Yee-ah. I’m not actually satisfied with that arrangement, so how about one of you switch with me?” *looks smug, makes a switching gesture with his hands*

*all the guys look confused, then they all look at each other and laugh*

Derek: *begins to laugh as well* “Haha, yeah. So, who’s it gonna be?”

*guys continue laughing and ignore him*

Derek: *under his breath* “Bathroom it is.” *turns and begins walking toward the room*

*scene change: Venturi-McDonald household: George and Nora’s room*

Nora: *folding laundry on the bed* “I hope Casey isn’t too homesick.”

George: “Nora, it’s only been six hours since we dropped them off.” *puts his hand on her back, comforting*

Nora: “I know.” *puts laundry she’s holding down on the bed* “Casey just doesn’t adjust well to new living situations.”

George: “Yeah, I remember.” *chuckles* “But, hey, at least this time she won’t be sharing a bathroom with Derek!”

*they smile at each other knowingly*

George: “Anyways, I’m more worried about Marti acting up. You saw the way she reacted when Derek was going to go to Spain with Abbey for a year.”

Nora: “Yeah, and with the new baby coming in the next six months too.” *looks worried* “We’ll have to make sure we’re paying a lot of attention to her.”

George: “It is a lot of changes for her all at once.”

*George and Nora look at each other with concern*

*scene change: Queens University courtyard - students are milling about*

*Casey is walking while looking down at a map, not paying attention to where she’s going*

*Derek sees her, walks over and stops directly in her path* *smug smile on his face*

Casey: *runs into him* “Oh, I’m so sorry! I was just-” *looks up at him* “Der-ek!”

Derek: “Hey, Case. Getting acquainted with the campus?”

Casey: “As a matter of fact, I am.” *smiles smugly, begins walking away and looking at the map again*

*Derek smirks, turns and falls into step next to her*

Casey: “I’ll have you know that I just finished setting up my new TV.” *looks over at him and smiles smugly*

Derek: “Congratulations. I knew you could do it if all you girls put your brains together.” *raises fist in a ‘go-team’ gesture*

Casey: *scoffs* “You are so immature. At least my dorm is filled with civilized people…” *under her breath* “Mostly.”

Derek: *smile-glares at her* “Yeah? Well, my dorm is great. Just a bunch of guys, living in our own filth. No girl to come in and ‘organize’ everything, spray perfume everywhere, or put a ‘skirt’ on the toilet.” *uses fingers for air quotes*

Casey: “Oh, yeah? Well, my dorm is the best, because there’s no boy there constantly trying to prank me!”

Derek: *chuckles, smiles at her smugly, runs his tongue over his teeth* “What a roundabout way to get what you want. Ya know, if you wanted to be pranked,

you could have just asked.” *pats Casey on the shoulder condescendingly*

Casey: *stops and turns toward Derek, points at him angrily* “I don’t want to be pranked!”

Derek: “Don’t worry, I’ll think of a good one. But only for you.” *pinches Casey’s teach (edit: cheek) teasingly*

Casey: *slaps his hand away, glaring at him* “Hm.” *angrily turns and storms away*

Derek: “Alright, see you soon!” *smiles and chuckles to himself*

Edwin: *appears in the hallway with Lizzie* “What?”

Lizzie: *annoyed* “I thought we promised not to act like Casey and Derek, and you’re acting like Derek!” *points to her foot*

Edwin: *looks down and sees the egg* *chuckles* “Ew, Lizzie, why are you scrambling eggs with your foot?”

Lizzie: *exasperated* “Why did you crack an egg outside of my bedroom door?”

Edwin: *defensive* “I didn’t!”

Lizzie: “Well, someone did. And you can’t deny that you’re the most likely culprit now that Derek’s gone!”
