Thanks for your questions! Roleplay is essentially co-writing a plot with a writing partner, usually a romantic one for a ship in this context. When I started I always just looked at RP blogs doing it publicly and tried to copy their style, it’s very easy as you just need to be interested in writing. Even if you’re not, you can do short dialogue RPs or one-liners where you don’t write too much, so the goal is just to have fun with the ship and to possibly use it as a romantic outlet.

My advice is to find someone who matches your writing level and enthusiasm for the ship (if they RP publicly, you can have a look at what they’ve written before to assess how it matches your level, and if they don’t, you can ask for a sample of their writing). It’s also good to set beforehand what you want the plot to be (for example some people enjoy canon/Yotsuba Lawlight and set that as the plot from the start, while some prefer doing an AU version where L and Light have different lives, you can alternate between plots also and choose whatever you feel like in the moment!)
