One of the worst parts of my flashdrive breaking is losing PSDs I loved and now don't know how to find again.

Thinking about Melody. Thinking about the inherent horror of being the first known hybrid/member of your species. Thinking about the horror of not knowing you aren't entirely human.

I want an Intense, Dramatic biopic of Hans Christian Andersen, including the part where TLM is about him loving a guy.
But I also want the incident to be included where he was found crying facedown in Charles Dickensβs yard because he got a bad review.

Melody loves her mother, of course, she does, but she's always considered herself closer to her father. Ariel and Melody are so much alike that they tend to clash. Melody is something of a Daddy's Girl.

β what are you doing awake, my little shell? β brow knit with concern, ariel fusses and smooths a hand across melodyβs hair, pressing her cool palm to the girlβs cheek, her brow, the delicate back of her neck. her dressing gown flutters about her ankles as she leans back to get a good look at her face. β are you alright? β
βΒ I can't sleep, β Melody mumbles, leaning into her mother's touch with a sigh.
Whenever she shuts her eyes, all she can see is the sickly green magic of the corrupted trident forcing her friends, her mother and her grandfather to bow. Her beloved father lying limp in her mother's arms. When she starts to drift off, she remembers the burn in her lungs as she scrabbled frantically at the wall of ice Morgana had locked her behind.
She still dreams about the terrifying fortress of jagged ice that grew up under Morgana, about the huge, threatening beast Undertow had become.
Everyone she cared about could have been enslaved, or even worse. And it was all her fault. She who had run away, who had stolen her own grandfather's property, had willingly handed it over to a sea witch to spite her mother. All of it was her fault !
βΒ Everything came so close to disaster, and it was because of me. I'm ... I'm a horrible person. β

βΒ Did you know, dear one, that a famous playwright of ours named a character Ariel ? β She smiles gently at her new daughter-in-law. βΒ The play was about a man and his daughter washed up on an island by a shipwreck. And that Ariel was a spirit of wind and water. β

Call me crazy, but surrounding Melody with sea and sailing imagery while also forbidding her from going near the sea seems like a pretty sure-fire way to make it some pretty tantalizing forbidden fruit.

βΒ Well, you don't act like it, β Melody huffs, a scowl twisting her features. She isn't aware of how her eyes glow when she's upset --- A visible remnant of the mermaid magic in her veins --- but the gold flickers like a candle-flame, now, with her agitation. If her father truly understood her, she thinks, he would never restrain her like this. How could he, if he understood how awful it felt ? No, Melody is sure that her parents, who always seem so regal and controlled, could never truly grasp how she feels so awkward and unhappy in the role they want her to play.
βΒ You and Mama are good at these kind of things. Talking to people and making them like you. People just think I'm weird. β
" perfect?! " it barks out of him unwillingly, brows shooting upwards. he does not mean to laugh at his daughter -- he remembers all too well being in her position; feeling misunderstood & alone. " your grandmother & grimsby might have something to say about that, " she is so much like him, so much like ariel. that willful, free spirit that had drove both of them burned bright within her as well. it felt cruel to stifle her, hypocritical at the very least -- but he finally understood where his mother had been coming from all those years ago. the thought of anything happening to her, of that sea witch following through on her threats... one hand lifts to brush her cheek. " i understand more than you think, believe me. "
