All-California, All-Best Choice Seafood at the Ocean Day California Reception

On Tuesday, March 14, the Monterey Bay Aquarium hosted its eighth annual Ocean Day California reception in Sacramento. The event gathers the state’s top ocean advocates—including California assemblymembers and senators, other government officials, and representatives of conservation organizations—to celebrate the state’s leadership in protecting our ocean.  

During the event, our Executive Director, Julie Packard, presented the Aquarium’s 2017 California Ocean Champion award to former Senator Fran Pavley—and Secretary of State Alex Padilla honored Julie for her lifelong dedication to ocean conservation.

While awards and hobnobbing are nice, we know the food is the real star. Reception attendees enjoyed an array of delicious and sustainable dishes. This year marked the first time all of the event’s seafood was both Best Choice-rated and sourced from California. Check out the spread.
