You Deserve To Know Love - LN

Summary: Lando gets into a very hesitant relationship with a girl who doesn't have anyone but herself in the world.

Hyper-independent/Abandonment issues!reader

Word count: 1.5k

One of the first things Lando heard about y/n was "she's impossible to love" and it was a warning away from her. Mutual friends attempts to stop him from making the mistake.

It took a few dates for Lando to really prove that he wasn't just interested in sex and something temporary.

Lando would be lying if he said that she's the easiest person in the world to date. But he is happy to deal with all of it because he knows loves her and he knows that he can give her the love she's deserved her whole life.

But he also knows that she's terrified to let herself fall for him in the same way in case he changes his mind and leaves her. He's not going to do that, but words won't convince her of that.

So far he's realised she likes to be left to do stuff for herself and she has yet to call him for help or to do something for her and she almost seems constantly prepared for him to just disappear. Like every time he appears or calls, she's surprised that he's still around and he hates that but he knows it's not her fault that she is that way.

It's the people who failed her that are at fault.

She's also yet to be physically affectionate outside of the bedroom. No hugs, no hand holding, kisses need some obvious warning, he's scared to catch her off guard because he really has no idea

"Hello, baby." Lando greets as he picks her up from the airport since she's finally agreed to come over to Monaco for the first time. "How was the flight-I got that."

"I can-"

"I got it, baby." Lando smiles trying to use the opportunity to do something for her. Even if it is just carry her bags to put them in the boot of his car. "How was the flight?"

"It was good." Y/n nods looking like she doesn't know what to do with her hands. "I've never flew over to Nice before. It was quite a nice flight."

"I'm glad you're here, it's overdue." Lando smiles making her smile lightly at him.

"Yeah I'm glad I'm here too." Y/n smiles before following him to the passenger side which earns a frown till he opens the door and smiles brightly at her. "I can open the door."

"I know you can." Lando nods keeping his smile since he knows that she doesn't mean anything by it, it's just to her if she can do something she doesn't need someone to do it for her. "I want to open the door for you."

Y/n bites her lip for a moment before she leans over and kisses him softly which practically makes him beam; overjoyed by the kiss.

Lando thanks the staff as they step out of the restaurant they ate lunch at before walking out on the street and without thinking, he takes hold of y/n's hand as they walk. Not even noticing her immediate attention looking down at their joined hands.

"What are you doing?" Y/n questions after a moment of slow walking, her gaze practically glued on their hands as Lando frowns looking at her before following her gaze and smiling a little.

"I'm holding your hand." Lando states in mild amusement. "Is that ok?"

"I guess...you've never done it before." Y/n mumbles seeming confused but not upset about it as her fingers finally curl to hold his hand properly but he can tell just how foreign the feeling is to her.

"I can let go if you want." Lando smiles but her hand tightens suddenly.

"No. It's ok. I don't mind." Y/n states quickly while Lando nods before continuing to walk them back to his car.

He's sure he'll slowly break down the walls she's built up. They're there purely for protection and he understands that, he just wants to prove that she doesn't need to protect herself from him. Even if the first step towards proving that is just holding her hand. He'll get there one day with her and she'll trust him.

Y/n's 2 week visit to Monaco was nearing it's end with only 3 days left and the two are just having a night in with y/n making them a meal from scratch while Lando has been sent to his sim room and is gaming with Max in the mean time.

"Baby, the food is ready." Y/n states softly not really wanting to interrupt his gaming but Lando almost gets up without turning off or saying bye. "-You don't have to rush it's still hot."

"Bye guys." Lando spits out then turning it all off with impressive speed. "I'm not rushing, I'm just excited to eat. You put time and effort into making us a meal. I want to see how it turned out."

Lando smiles following her to the dining room where she's set the table already and laid the spaghetti bolognese out for them.

"This looks amazing, baby." Lando states leaning over pausing for just a second so she has the warning before he sees her shift ever so slightly closer as if to give him the ok to kiss her cheek. "Thank you."

"It's just pasta, Lando."

"You made it all from scratch though. That's some high quality food." Lando continues to compliment the food through the first few bites before noticing y/n just can't take anymore without possibly imploding.

Once they finish Lando insists on doing the dishes since that's how the deal goes when someone makes a meal. But y/n manages to find a task for herself by drying the dishes.

"Can we talk about something, baby?" Lando asks making her look at him for a moment before nodding. "Do you believe me when I say I want to be with you?"

Y/n is definitely caught off guard by his works but she lets out a small sigh and bites her lip for a moment.

"I believe you it's just...I'm fragile." Y/n smiles trying to make it more light-hearted and jokey atmosphere as they finish up and end up sitting down in the living room.

"That's ok." Lando smiles then shifting his chair closer and taking her hand. "That's ok, so long as you know and you understand that I'm not going to leave and I don't want you to ever think that. I want to make you happy and I want you to feel taken care of because you don't always have to do it yourself. You can let me do things for you-even things you can do, you can let me do them because I want to do things for you."

"You make it sound so easy." Y/n mumbles while Lando sighs a little sadly at her.

"I love you, y/n. But I want to show you that." Lando states while y/n smiles at him then letting him take her hand and guide her over to sit in his lap and wrap his arms around her. "I'll wait as long as I have to for you to believe me and realise I'm really not going anywhere-well I'll have to go some places for work. But I'm never leaving you permanently."

"I know-I really know. I know that you are amazing and you are so good to me. Too good really. But...it's just hard to believe someone who was a stranger not that long ago can love me and want to stay when the people who were meant to love me unconditionally didn't even do that." Y/n whispers, her words completely breaking Lando's heart.

He's never pushed or asked about y/n's family. He just knows they're not in the picture and haven't been for a long time, but the idea that they've caused such a type of damage to her in the long term. Damage that is making her feel less than she's worth when he can't even put a price on what she's worth to him.

"I can't make stupid people smarter but everyone who has left you is stupid and they've missed out on having an incredible person in their life. That was their stupid choice. But I'm not going to be that dumb, ok? I might not always be the smartest person, but I will never ever be that stupid." Lando promises the squeezing her. "We'll still take it as slow as you need. But I just want to make sure you know what my intentions are and how safe you are with me. You might even wish I'd just leave you alone sometimes."

"No. Never." Y/n smiles hugging him tightly for the first time ever and the action makes Lando feel a wave of love from her that he didn't realise he was waiting to feel.
