Something that’s not talked about enough is the amount of Sheer Willpower (or executive function) it takes to be a freelancer.

It’s a constant mental load of:

-choosing what to do, when to do it, deciding when it is enough, and the having to deal with the uncertainty of the outcome

Traditional jobs, mostly make that determination for you AND they have external structures that can lead to natural breaks, natural time blocking.

With freelancing that’s not done for you which can lead to a chronic mental load overtime, that can allow bad habits to leak in like social media overconsumption, food binging and difficulty with task initiation at the end of the workday.

it’s so easy to propagandize people that a majority of americans actually believe that military service to The Empire (tm) is an apolitical act

air quality index here is so bad due to Canadian wildfire smoke. Bad enough, that I'm literally feeling sleepy/fatigued, despite running an air purifier at full blast.

Mother nature is trying her best to find ways to slow us down.

Does it really matter that the little girl in Little Red Riding Hood realistically never would have mistaken a wolf for her grandmother?

modern art and storytelling seem so obsessed with faithfully reproducing 'realistic' choice making for characters, realistic endings, faithful reproductions of the shit world we live in. where is the playfulness and fun that comes with suspending our disbelief?

I used to think that someday I get the privilege of not having to justifying my professional and personal choices and expertise to everyone I know. Once I got enough prestige and experience in my career, I’d get curiosity, or deference, instead of doubt of my abilities and judgment. but i finally realized that silly me, i am a woman , I will will have to justify myself ✨forever ✨

instead of giving engineers and stem folks one ethics class they can sleep through their freshman year, maybe we can just teach them to respect the humanities instead.
