the Doctor goes through so many emotions in this one little moment and it makes me tear up every time I see it - you can see the realisation of what he’s about to embark on both terrifies him and overwhelms him, facing up to being told he’s worn and tired and needs to slow down, accepting that his life is about to drastically change… but at the centre, it’s him processing his best friend admitting to him that she is his home and she is the reason his old face came back and it is heartbreakingly beautiful

Thinking about a really badass stoic character having an old wound aggravated. Maybe a torturer literally reopens old scars, or maybe they re-break a limb in a household accident.

Either way, the normally stoic character can’t handle it, not psychologically. They’re brought right back to the worst moments of their life; helpless, hurting, and hopeless.

I really like the trope where the whumpee is emotionally exhausted from something and then slowly and silently… rests their forehead against the caretaker’s chest. Maybe they’ll cry, maybe they’ll stay quiet, maybe they’ll hug it out. But the moment where whumpee shows that small amount of vulnerability and trust towards caretaker is beautiful to me.

The whumper had made the whumpee completely dependent on them, instilling obedience and fear into them through countless hours of torture and punishments. The whumper could offer the whumpee freedom with no strings attached and they knew the whumpee would never take it, they’d become hopelessly reliant.

personally I'm a big fan of the intersection between intellectual interest and "it gets me kinda wet ngl" when it comes to taboo subjects. it's the creative sweet spot
