please drop the two sides of the same coin george/lance essay, i beg you! (i'd sell a kidney to read it, no joke)

Okay so not even stating the obvious that their courses interweave once hitting F1, even debuting at the same team AND every fucking time Lance has an incident George crashes the same/within a race or two within the past year. AND every time Lance has a great year, George follows up with a career peak.

(I am allowing myself an hour of tumblr today as a treat and am breaking it up into twenty minute sections like the pomodoro method)

When you strip away all of the nuance about the two of them, there are pretty basic facts. The main difference is you see GR as an extrovert, but when around people he loves is a very active listener, and LS as very shy, but blooms around people he loves and becomes very bubbly. Since Lance has effectively shut down to the public eye as an adult, you can look at videos pre-2018 or so for obvious examples. it also says a lot how others talk about him, especially his sister and FA.

I truly think if Lawrence hadn’t purchased PREMA, there probably would be a better relationship between the both of them, but that comes in from the nurture angle of this which I’m not talking about.

On top of that, they’re/they’ve both

youngest siblings with strong relationships to their sisters (Cara is on George’s management team, Chloe and Lance are besties in the way married or related pops up sometimes but he just loves his sister okay)

developed strong media personalities that sometimes slip pretty heavily, both facades to protect deeply caring men who have been razzed pretty badly over it. some people compare GR to Nico Rosberg but no, closer to LS.

Insanely loyal to their best friends. Hell, look at their best friends. Both of them lost their seats driving, now on with teams that are using them as the ‘core’ (tho Alex is at the beginning of this, Estie at the end of it).

IF YOU THINK that Esteban would be as kind or as generous about another driver bumping him than Lance, two polar opposites, then you don’t know either of them. Anyone else and Esteban would’ve been making pot shots. Instead, very loyal. Alex, in his little neggy way, does the same for George. Hell, George did everything but sleep at Alex’s family’s house at seventeen for a year, Esteban clearly respects Lance’s privacy but from what we’ve seen, at least flies with him from time to time. When everyone was coming down on Lance, Esteban was the first person to defend him.

I would not be surprised if Renault got some special sponsor money to get Este but George definitely openly got Alex that seat at Williams.

Driving styles - I wouldn’t call George reactive but the longer I watch, the more they are complimentary. Like I wouldn’t say GR is the same way that FA is, but he is very all or nothing, and that does pair well with Lance’s reactivity. I would also say they’re both very sensitive to the car and work on feedback.

They also share a strange pair of friends which, of all people to be FRIENDS with, these two are very mercurial and to be on their good side, interesting. Both Pierre and Fernando are not everybody’s cup of tea, and one could say it’s strange due to Pierre and Esteban’s relationship, and Fernando and Esteban’s relationship, how Lance is able to navigate that with ease. George also is good friends with both of those people, and I have a feeling if Lance was more public we’d see him on Fernando’s IG, same with Lance. Just because we don’t see it, it doesn’t mean it’s not there. I know a lot of people are visual and want socials, etc, but it’s also in the way people talk about each other, the way they respect each other, etc. It’s very interesting to me, the closer Pierre & FA have become to LS, the less close they’ve been to DR. Again, because Lance is private, we only hear the hit dog hollering.

Team loyalty. I still consider Williams George’s team and they had a fucking cutout of him at their holiday party last year, they love him. Aston (DESPITE THE ADMIN NEVER DELETING NEGATIVE COMMENTS FFS) is incredibly defensive of Lance. If another driver had the same scenario that happened between Lance & Henry, not only would everybody and their mother know on F1twt/IG/major news sources, but instead they locked it down, handled it smartly, and Henry has done nothing but hype Lance up to the Nth degree.

they both care about safety but i don’t remember all of those details rn, about jeddah in 2022 (?)

If you even like astrology, something fun (astrology is fun to me okay) is that george is an aquarius sun and lance is an aquarius moon. sun is how you appear, moon is how you are personally. just kind of interesting, those parallels, if you like that kind of stuff.
