Rhemann and Adi thinking hours: HOW DID THEY GET TOGETHER? Who made the first move? Was Adi also in the closet back then, and how did they know they were safe with one another?

Did they meet at college? Adi's friends forcing him to come to one of Rhemann's games (bear with me, I know Exy's a fairly young sport, but in my HCs Exy already exists OR he was playing something different, like lacrosse or hockey) and Rhemann locking eyes with this GORGEOUS nerd who absolutely does not want to be there, couldn't care less about sport, doesn't even know what the rules are, but he's so enchanting and Rhemann immediately thinks "oh" and "I'm definitely not straight"

Then the two of them meet again late at night at their favourite local diner, and Adi's inhaling his body weight in coffee to try to stay awake because finals are close, and Rhemann eagerly, clumsily, awkwardly tries to talk to this gorgeous man he's decided is the love of his life.

And he doesn't know what to talk about, and Adi notices, but Adi also notices that the man in front of him is sweet and intelligent and funny, despite his size and the fact that he's a jock and jocks have never been kind to Adi. Not when he has his name, not when he still carries a trace of his mother tongue accent, not when he's so clearly different from most of the very American student body of this college he's travelled half the world for.

But James Rhemann is kind, he's so kind, and he makes Adi feel safe and he makes him laugh and he takes him seriously, like nobody has before.

And he looks at Adi. He looks at him with something in his eyes that Adi recognizes.

And then, after weeks of impromptu study dates and late night coffee breaks, on their way to the dorms one evening, Adi brings James to a stop with a trembling hand to his bicep, and he lifts up to his toes and he kisses him, right on the edge of his mouth.

He immediately regrets it when James stares at him wide-eyed and afraid, and he braces for inevitable violence, but then James snakes a hand around his waist and he brings him up against his body and they KISS.

Adi is shaking, but so is James, so maybe it's okay.

And yeah. They never stop kissing after that.

I know Kevin and Jean have a lot of history, and it's said they know each other very well (I don't know if this is a fandom thing or if it's said at some point in the books; I just remember Jeremy thinking they have a lot of history).

But… does Kevin really know Jean? I mean, Kevin has only seen Jean broken, terrified, tortured, brainwashed. That's not really knowing a person. You only see one side of him, and it's the worst: the survivor side. A side that isn't normal.

Does Kevin know that Jean is a very good man? Does he know he's caring to his friends? Does he know he teaches the rookies on his team, because he has that teacher side? Does he know he had a little sister he adored? Does he know he's fiercely protective of those he loves?

After his reaction in TGR, it's very clear to me that Kevin doesn't really know Jean.

I mean I don’t really know if Jean ever talked to Kevin about anything and there’s still a possibility Nora will smush it in that Jean used to tell him about everything, but I mean Kevin didn’t even bring up his sister iirc? (And would that not be Jean’s first priority ? Like idk . Man contacted his father, even tho ravens have no family, but the first thing he says to Jean is about Jeremy) . And u can argue narrators are unreliable till the cows come home but at some point u have to admit details / scenes are missing because they just don’t exist?

(There is a scene in TSC where Kevin says Jean cannot lie to him, but I kinda think that was solely about where his injuries came from ? And skewed perspective because Kevin also says that Jean would never betray the ravens in TGR and then Jean tosses them away without a second thought later on)

And after that scene in the kitchen where Jeremy says Kevin was trying to make sense of the person in front of him…I think Kevin knew a version of Jean that was like what you said. Broken tortured scared angry. He (or maybe Neil? I can’t remember which one) says the reason Jean bows his head to Riko (in the og series) is because he has nothing outside of the nest. And he knows how Jean ended up at the nest but I mean. I was honestly floored when Kevin knew that much about Jeremy lmfao. But I guess it is different because Jeremy’s shit hit the fan very publicly and he could easily look things up? Because I mean he didn’t know Jeremy was considering law school — he only knew his grandfather was a senator .

I think Kevin for sure figured things out about Jean. Like for example when he asks Jean to distract Riko I’m pretty sure he knew Jean would say yes (I know we were in Jean’s pov but cmon now. If Jean could figure out Jeremy��s shirt was blue from watching him look at one shirt Kevin could figure out Jean would help him out) . And he knew Jean would help Neil in the nest. So I think he knew Jean was a good man, but I don’t think he knows anything beyond that.

(Also there’s that scene where Jean goes like ballistic protecting Jeremy, and I was kinda floored because everything up until that point was like. Jean’s perspective of him being like oh I was targeted in the nest and no one feared me and they all hated me but Kevin just? Didn’t say anything? And I get it’s skewed perspective but… ? Idk like when exactly would Kevin have seen him like that yk? Shouldn’t u be jaws on the floor wondering what the fuck he’s doing 😭)

But overall I honestly think they were less of friends and more allies. And I’ll stand by that until I’m proven wrong but. They really were trauma bonded, whether the fandom likes to admit it or not.

Jean releases her onto the bench, where the medical team tends to her. Jean returns to the court.

Suddenly, half the team is on the court floor because they've had an accident (or a massive stroke, those idiots).

Jean looks for his captain to tell him to get his players in order.

Jeremy is on the floor beside him, looking at him with those eyes he sometimes makes when he wants Jean's attention, blinking a lot.

"I'm hurt so bad, I can't move."

Jean sighs, slow and deep.

not to be like both sides are wrong, and only i’m right, but i have been thinking about sabrina’s album cover controversy. to me, it’s pretty evident that she is going to be exploring her own compliance in getting into relationships where she gets treated badly or well like a dog. while manchild is a tongue-in-cheek mocking song that is all about how she just keeps stumbling into bed with these loser men, woe is me, there is an obvious irony to lines like “won’t you let an innocent woman be?” “i swear they choose me, i’m not choosing them.” sabrina is hardly an innocent doe-eyed girl. she is very sharp and experienced in relationships, and no one is forcing her to date these men. the music video further emphasizes this point by showcasing her hitchhiking into increasingly more ridiculous automobiles with increasingly more ridiculous men who all let her down in various absurd and/or violent ways. and yet the closing shot of the video is her getting out of one car and immediately running over and jumping into the next, continuing the cycle. so while the song on the surface externalizes the blame for her mistreatment to basically everyone but her, the subtext is all about how sabrina is the one doing this to herself. when i see the album cover of her smiling at the camera on her knees while a man holds her hair like a leash, i see a deep and very uncomfortable self-awareness and acknowledgement happening here. it’s obviously going to be dressed up in the shiny pop music veneer and sabrina’s signature brand of dry humor, but this is a very sensitive topic that most upcoming pop girls wouldn’t touch with a ten feet pole because it is humiliating to admit that you’re complicit in your own mistreatment and degradation. that you aren’t just posing as a dog, but you actually let men treat you like one. manchild isn’t just the first single from the album but also the opening track, setting the stage for what the album will be exploring. and again while on the surface it looks like your usual my ex is a loser classic fare, in actuality it is all about how sabrina is deluding herself about her choice of partners. “manchild, why you always come running to me?” she asks, and i’m willing to bet that she is going to be answering that question in the album, eventually coming to the conclusion that these things aren’t as one-sided as she initially presented them to be. from what i’ve seen, sabrina is very smart and very deliberate when it comes to her branding. i highly doubt she chose such a sensational image just to “appeal to the male gaze.” yes the picture is meant to play into that trope, but hardly in a glorifying way.

you know, i get it. being raised as a superstar must be really, really difficult for you. always a commodity, never a human being, not a single person in your family thinking you’re worth a damn off the court— yeah, sounds rough. kevin and i talk about your intricate and endless daddy issues all the time. i know it’s not entirely your fault that you are mentally unbalanced and infected with these delusions of grandeur, and i know you’re physically incapable of holding a decent conversation with anyone like every other normal human being can, but i don’t think any of us should have to put up with this much of your bullshit. pity only gets you so many concessions, and you used yours up about six insults ago. so please, please, just shut the fuck up and leave us alone.

People on the team who try to spot him live in fear. Matt can, a few others can kinda but I’m living for Matt being Andrew’s main spotter and then having a kinda mutual semi friendship about it

Matt coming up to Andrew randomly before or after practice to show him work out videos, offering to teach him boxing strats, and everyone expects Andrew to just stare at him blankly or threaten him for being within 2 feet of Andrew’s personal space but Andrew peeks over at the phone and just nods “alright, we can try that next practice” “are you free Tuesday evening? I don’t have class” “would that work modified for a different machine, we don’t have that one?”

Dan and Allison are in awe, Nicky is worried and horrified, but Aaron knows that w him and Matt dorming he’s gotten a lot more used to “being with the monsters” and seen when Andrew will randomly break in to throw a granola bar at Aaron’s head, flip him off, steal Aaron’s drink, then walk out without a word like a feral cat and since then Andrew has lost 75% of his intimidation powers against him

ronan & adam are going through some of adam’s old school notebooks at the barns while he’s home on christmas break, trying to decide what to throw out and what might still be useful. most of the high school ones go in recycling, except for the one where adam did his cicero translations—qui est tamquam alter idem neatly copied and parsed on one of the pages. adam’s not paying attention when ronan asks if he can keep this one, yeah sure go ahead.

anyway about a month later adam comes home to tamquam alter idem tattooed in his handwriting on ronan’s left ribs, right under his heart.
