The poto mitan, Haitian Creole for "central pole", is an essential structural feature of the hounfour (temple) in vodou. It sits in the central position of the peristyle (sacred space in the center of the hounfour). The poto mitan takes the form of a decorated wooden post or tree, by which the lwa descend to earth to inhabit the bodies of the faithful through spirit possession.
It usually consists of the whole trunk of a tree or wooden post, fixed to the ground by the socle (a concrete pedestal) and attached at the top to the roof of the temple. A poto mitan is often painted with designs in bright colors, frequently featuring the motif of two intertwined serpents, symbolizing  Dambala and Ayida Wedo. However, the poto mitan also represents Papa Legba, who opens the way to communicate with the spirits.
Our poto mitan come in two styles: one featuring a natural trunk with a cloth-dressed base for offerings; and a painted one, featuring a concrete socle for sacrifices, painted green and rainbow (Ayida Wedo) and white (Dambala). Both poto mitan have the houngan’s/mambo’s anson (rattle) and Papa Legba’s bag and walking stick fastened to the pillar.

This scenic luminary honors Dambala and Ayida Wedo, the Serpent and the Rainbow. Dambala is the primordial snake lwa of life, wealth, and wisdom, and his wife, Ayida Wedo, is the ancient Protector of Creation. Their union is symbolized by a snake coiled around a cosmic egg containing all of life’s energies, possibilities, and potential. Together, they maintain the balance of forces, which sustains all life on Earth
Dambala  is among the most ancient, beloved and important lwa. Invoke him for wealth, prosperity, good health, and fertility. He can be extremely generous, and so may be approached when one is genuinely desperate or really in trouble. Despite his venerable age, he remains interested in people.
Ayida Wedo’s relationship with Dambala epitomizes the happy marriage. She is invoked by those who desire successful, committed, faithful marriages. Request her blessings for hope and happiness, peace and prosperity.
Dambala and Ayida Wedo most often appear in dreams. They do not communicate well. You must pay attention. He and Ayida are so old and primal that they emerge from a time before speech. They may hiss or make whistling noises but do not speak a human language.
Offerings to them can include white candles and white foods, like rice, bananas,  milk, orgeat syrup, cream, sweetened cafe au lait, whole raw eggs (leave them plain or anoint them with rose or other light scented floral water), crystal or porcelain eggs, serpents, and rainbows, items with serpent or rainbow motifs, white luxury fabrics.

La Sirene is a beautiful water lwa. Her name literally means “the mermaid.” She is Mistress of Mysticism and a repository of sacred information. She appears in dreams, carrying people down to her kingdom beneath the sea, where she offers magical instruction. She is also associated with the largess of the sea. Her image attracts wealth and treasure and is thus frequently found in lottery/gambling parlours. La Sirene helps your ships come in. Her image in your home may possess the same effect.
This wooden fetish with her veve will invoke her presence on your altar, letting you petition her. Invoke La Sirène for protection and safe passage over the sea and for wealth, joy, and psychic ability. If you seek occult secrets, La Sirene can provide them.
Offerings to her include pink champagne, white wine, Kir Royale cocktails, cocktails made with Monin orgeat syrup, melons, French pastries, seashells, hair ornaments, perfume, cigarettes, cosmetics, French perfume, and hand mirrors.

A pair of luminaries for your altars! These marble luminaries honor Baron Samedi and Maman Brigitte, the lwa of Life and Death. They are invoked to contact and communicate with the dead, petitioned to remove bothersome spirits, and to ward off death. They are powerful healers and are especially sympathetic to terminally ill children. They also are invoked for fertility and protection.
Baron Samedi rules the cemetery - no one can die until he gives permission for their grave to be dug. He is the guardian of ancestral knowledge and the link to your ancestral spirits. He is also a great magician and a Grand Master of the Celestial Masonic Lodge of Vodou Spirits, a 32nd degree initiated Mason.
Maman Brigitte  is Queen of the Cemetery and Spirit World. If Baron Samedi frightens you, Maman Brigitte may be petitioned to intercede on your behalf. She also serves as a judge in the Court of Spirits. You can invoke her for justice if it is not forthcoming elsewhere, whether spiritual justice or in an actual court of law. She will also help in prosperity matters - if you need a quick fix of cash, Maman Brigitte is the lwa to ask.
Offerings can include black coffee, plain bread, dry toast, kleren rum in which twenty-one hot peppers have been steeped, cigars, cigarettes, violets and purple irises, black beans and rice, corn meal, corn bread, and roast corn.
